I'd consider listening to it.

Might be interesting.

I think "Temple of the Dog" is the closest thing to a Supergroup I own.

El Chode [TotalFark] 2009-07-02 08:04:41 PM
I think this sounds really cool. I think it's dumb how JPJ is referred to as "Led Zeppelin" man in the article though. Last time Grohl and Homme worked together, we got Songs For the Deaf.

1derful 2009-07-02 08:29:47 PM
If Dave is on guitar and josh is on drums, subby's pants aren't on fire.

Goonie_Goo_Goo 2009-07-02 08:32:27 PM
Bite it, subby. That sounds f*cking awesome.

subtlehavok 2009-07-02 08:46:24 PM
Uhhh...that sounds more than okay to me. Subby can suck Daves sweaty ball sack after an hour of drumming.

BX 2009-07-02 08:46:46 PM
I'll check it out

nice troll headline subby. ya got a few of us didn't ya?

If Dave Grohl is away from the microphone this may not make me want to shoot myself.

http://www.spinner.com/2009/07/01/dave-grohl-josh-homme-and-john-paul-jones-work ing-on-new-projec/

According to this Dave will be on drums, Josh on guitar (and hopefully vocals), and JPJ obviously on bass.

This is going to rule. A bass legend, one of the greatest rock drummers alive, and the wholly unique, genius musical personality that is Josh Homme... fark yeah.

jhva3 2009-07-02 09:09:54 PM
John Paul Jones is an amazing bass player. I am excited.

mavrick45 2009-07-02 09:12:10 PM
I love how they refer to John as led zeppelin man

*SIGH*

This. Bassists get no respect, apparently.

As stated above, the last time Homme and Grohl worked together we got Songs for the Deaf, which I would easily put in my top 5 albums of all time. Granted they also had Mark Lanegan, but still. If Grohl is on drums and Homme is on guitar and vocals then this could farking rock.

That's reason enough to pique my interest.

Yup, one of the best albums of the last ten years.

I suspect subby is a moron.

jj325 [TotalFark] 2009-07-02 09:41:15 PM
JPJ is not only an amazing bass player but arranger as well. The man knows music. I look forward to anything these guys produce.

Dwight_Yeast 2009-07-02 09:42:55 PM
It should also be noted that Led Zepplein was the second band to be labeled a "supergroup", so I think JPJ can handle the pressure.

How is Led Zeppelin a supergroup? I thought a supergroup was a group made up of previously famous rockstars, like French, Frith, Kaiser Thompson or Asia for example. I think they are super, but Page was the only one who was well known when they were formed.

I am not looking up the yardbirds, why don't you learn to read before making a snarky comment. My question stands. Page was the only member of the group who was famous at the time. Aren't supergroups typically made up of all/most famous members?

rudemix 2009-07-02 10:27:44 PM
Hopefully Chris Goss is involved some how too.

csxtrainwreck [TotalFark] 2009-07-02 10:30:31 PM
Hmm Grohl and Homme collaborated on a great Queens of the Stone Age album. John Paul Jones was half of Led Zeppelin's rhythm section (the other half being John Bonham)... Yeah, there's every reason to assume, at least on paper that they would suck.

This sounds great. I'd love to see Nick back in the group, but I'll happily accept John Paul Jones.

So this is the Queens of the Stone Age with Jon Paul Jones then? They could use another Songs for the Deaf.

Yeah, I think the only thing JPJ was known for at the time of Zeppelin's formation was session work. Plant and Bonham were in a local band as I recall.

A Birmingham (UK) blues group called the Band of Joy. I'm willing to bet Plant's retarded hippie-ass named the band.

People in local bands are often in mutliple bands. "Super" implies they're established names. Session work only counts when it's stacked on previously established work like Jimmy Page. Just my opinion.

You've got the understand that Page and Jones were both well-known as session musicians in London, and Bonham and Plant were two of the best unsigned talents on the (relatively small) English music scene at the time. The "Supergroup" appellation came from Ahmet Ertegun, who was in the position to throw terms like that around (he'd signed Cream, the original Supergroup).

Even though it may have been a bit premature in late 1968, all four members of Zeppelin certainly lived up to it by 1970.

I'm a big QOTSA fan, love Zeppelin, a bassist who is a huge fan of John Paul Jones, and I absolutely loved Songs For The Deaf.

The fact is, this is an orgasm waiting to happen.

idiot subby couldn't do better if they tried.

these are 3 very skilled musicians, not just over-hyped rockstars. will be interesting to see what happens..

The only thing who? It only counts huh? You can't discount JPJ's work and praise Page's at the same time. Well you can, but it just isn't right. They ran in the same circles, worked for the same record company, played with many of the same musicians. Sure, Page was in The Yardbirds before Zep started, but in their time and place, they were both established names. JPJ was called in to play on Beck's Bolero when Entwistle couldn't make it. I won't argue about your definition of a supagroop, but JPJ wasn't some unknown local bass player session guy.

Dwight_Yeast:

I dunno as I'd call French, Frith, Kaiser, Thompson "famous", but they were all kinds of awesome. And I'm glad somebody mentioned 'em.

Yeah, I think this could be an excellent project Homme, Grohl & JPJ have going. Anxious to hear it!

Mr. Potatoass:

John Paul Jones is an amazing bass player musician.

Yep. You hand the guy an instrument of about any kind, & he'll play the Hell out of it. I dunno about drums, but anything with strings or keys, he's got covered.

People go on about Page or Plant or Bonham, but nobody mentions JPJ. Which is odd, because he was kind of the architect of their sound to a degree. Page was a studio & production wiz, but JPJ did most of the arrangements and played anything the other guys couldn't. The guy's a genius, really. And you could always tell the rock star persona that the rest of them were happy to indulge in, just never really fit JPJ. He was there to do a job, and he did it without getting drunk & trashing hotels or farking groupies with a mud shark. You gotta respect that.

hhhmmmmm......let us see here.

Legendary British studio composer/arranger/bassist from one of the greatest and most highly influential super-groups in all of music history to team up with--

American legacy guitarist who is regarded as one of the primary original architects of the "stoner-rock" genre in addition with--

For the other guy I say only this:
Listen to the Goddamned drums on KILLING JOKE!

Where is ANY indication of suckage here?

The very idea of hearing Jones' thunderous 10-string bass along with Homme's de-tuned sludge guitar and Grohl's relentlessly tight drumming is quite enticing to me.

GibbyTheMole: People go on about Page or Plant or Bonham, but nobody mentions JPJ. Which is odd, because he was kind of the architect of their sound to a degree.

Yep.

People go on and on about "Jimmy Page the riffmeister," referencing such classic riffs as Heartbreaker and Black Dog. Guess what? All those melodic riffs Zeppelin is famous for... JPJ wrote.

Oh, and the dude has conducted a symphony orchestra WHILE PLAYING BASS.

He is amazing.

Mr. Slippyfist 2009-07-03 10:45:20 AM
Grohl's drum work on Songs for the Deaf is hands down my favoring drumming on any album. And as stated above, that album is easily in the top 5 of the last 10 years.

I will buy the shiat out of this album.
