Being an actual relay operator, im amused at these replies. For the record, probably 95% of the populace has no idea what a relay call is and i honestly get asked daily why deaf people need to make phone calls.

we should all use this system to call the relevant authorities and have the automated system read out our messages about how this person shouldn't be charged.

Pretty much everyone I know has done this.

I'm deaf, and got an obscene call once. Kept asking the guy to repeat himself, and talk louder. He finally hung up on me. I put it all together afterwards and figured out what he was asking. Must have been frustrating for the poor guy.

I had a friend who used to do TTY work. He had a lot of really interesting stories about having to relay totally raunchy messages over the phone. They're required by federal law, I believe, to say anything and everything, exactly, that the deaf people enter. Sometimes deaf people would mess with them to see what they could get away with--which is, to say, everything. :)

I can see a service for deaf people to send the message out to recipients who can hear. Assuming recipient has no email or texting ability.

Messages to deaf people, they'd have to write it, like email, or text it. No point in reading it to them.

And what kind of service would read an obscene message to someone anyway.

And there is also some phone system for deaf people, unless this was it.

As usual, the scenario playing in my head is certainly better than what transpired.
