How can anyone construe that as a Michael Jackson reference?

CFL receiver in trouble after celebrating touchdown

A compact fluorescent light receiver scored a touchdown?

I really don't understand football.

In case any of you didn't hear...

I did the exact same celebration the last time I won a game of chess.

Who am I kidding, I've never won a game of chess.

Either way, this is not the kind of super showboating that goes on in the US.

What the hell? Did he get up and scream "Hey! I was being dead Michael Jackson! Yeah, that's my MJ impression right there!!"

Would anyone know what the hell he was doing there if he just kept his mouth shut? Or did everyone guess?

NorCalLos 2009-07-02 02:33:39 PM
The 50-year-old iconic entertainer died last week.

Kind of old for a football player, even in the Canadian league. And I don't think a CFL player qualifies as an "iconic entertainer."

The "celebration" was lame. He could've at least moonwalked before he died.

Arland Bruce (the player who did it) was asked about it on the sidelines after and said it was a Michael Jackson tribute.

Not much of a reference if you explain it and still no one gets it.
Still love those Argo uniforms though.

Maybe I should start watching CFL football. Sounds like they aren't as pretentious when it comes to "cracking down" on player's celebrations.

bruce4bruce: In before I like the "I like the light skinned Michael Jackson more than the darker skinned Michael Jackson"

I liked the dark skinned Michael Jackson during the "Rock with you" era, and I liked the light skinned Michael Jackson during the "Earth Song" and "Black or White" era.

The last time I was in Montreal I was sitting in a pub drinking my beer when I saw they had the CFL on TV. Before this I didn't know there was a difference in rules. I asked the bartender why there were more yards on the field. I was treated to a 20 minute diatribe about all the different rules and why each were superior.

Remembering I didn't give a shiat about US or Canadian football, I learned my lesson and will from now on no longer engage locals in a Canadian bar.

I'm a CFL fan and I felt he should have been ejected (you can get ejected for excessive objectionable conduct) for that display.

Last year, the same guy pulled off his helmet and put on a Spider-man mask.

I've been seeing too much of this coordinated stuff for years in the CFL and it should be stopped. It makes the players doing it look like idiots. We've had guys pretending to be bobsledders, using another player and pretending to be on an exercise bike, players having a game of Duck-Duck-Goose and so forth. Ridiculous.

Minimize the celebration if you have one, do it by yourself and then get the hell off the field.

Think what the NFL would do to this clown for stripping off his gear in an end-zone 'celebration'.

Actually, the player who did it is an American.

Arland Bruce (new window)

Most of the Canadian players show a little more respect and just hand the ball to the referee after scoring.

My feeling is that until the CFL gets tough and starts assessing immediate rouges on teams whose players behave like this, the league is going to Come-By-Chance on a Chesterfield, as we say aroond here.

What was that? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of 3 consecutive 1000 yard, 10+ TD seasons.
