msannomalley: Women will never achieve true equality until they stop blaming men for every stupid thing they do and they step up and take responsibility for their all of their actions. Women will never achieve true equality until they stop playing the victims and viewing anyone who possesses the Y chromosome and a penis as the enemy. Women will never achieve true equality until we stop criticizing each others choices and stop tearing each other down. Women will never achieve true equality until they drop the "man-hating" bullshiat.

The feminist movement, or the second wave, which the Boomers are responsible for, has done more harm than good to women's equality. Men are supposed to be evil oppressive uncouth bastards, but you're not a real woman unless you act like a man. And if you do traditionally female things, then you're being oppressed by those evil oppressive uncouth bastard men. WTF is that supposed to mean? If I want to stay home and take care of my kids or take up knitting or dress in a feminine way, it's because it's my choice to do so, and not because those evil bastard-men are forcing me to do it. I thought that being able to choose what I wanted to do with my life was the whole point of feminism.

A few hours later, and this woman and her self-absorption still pisses me off. My husband and I have been married for seven years and we have gone through some pretty awful shiat during that time and yet, we have survived and our marriage is stronger than ever and we are closer than ever. This self-absorbed twat throws in the towel and cheats after 20 years for stupid and selfish reasons. She deserves to die shriveled up and alone.

Well, regardless, there is some amount greater than 0. After all, this lady from the article is getting divorced after 20 years.

So, I guess my point is that 43% + whomever gets divorced after 15 years (which is larger than 0%) is *awfully* close to the commonly stated 'Half of all marriages end in divorce'.

Some people up higher in the thread were saying the number wasn't accurate, but the best study I've found seems to support it.

Depends on the thread... in this sort of thread, we're all vigorous supporters of monogamy and/or the sanctity of marriage.

In another thread, we may all be super-sexed swingers that have no fewer than 17 simultaneous sex partners.

In this post-ideological age, we don't have firm, fixed beliefs and ideas anymore. What we support can change from day to day with no difficulty or apparent contradiction.

I've sincerely, honestly, never understood this line of thinking.

Does she have to "work on" loving her children? People make it all so much more complicated than it is. They somehow lose sight that it's life in general they've lost touch with, not just their husbands.

Fark_Guy_Rob: The report, "First Marriage Dissolution, Divorce, and Remarriage: United States," also shows that one in three first marriages end within 10 years and one in five end within 5 years. The findings are based on data from the 1995 National Survey of Family Growth, a study of 10,847 women 15-44 years of age.

So, basically....

After 5 years - 1/5 marriages have ended in divorce.
After 10 years - 1/3 marriages have ended in divorce.
After 15 years - ~1/2 marriages have ended in divorce.

Yes, 43% is less than 50% - but we're only looking at the first 15 years. People do get divorced after that.

Not to quibble, but that still doesn't give the complete picture. You still have a lot of first marriages marrying second marriages, which throws the odds off as well. The numbers still aren't good.

I believe in the institution of marriage, just not sure it's in the cards for me. Unfortunately, the GF has pretty strong opinions on the subject.

See? It isn't pole-smokers and carpet-munchers who are ruining the institution of marriage, it's self-absorbed farkhead biatches like this who take their special hetero rights and piss all over them.

How about this for a new law: you don't have to be straight to get a marriage license, but you do have to NOT be an immature twat who will screw up your own life and then biatch and whine that it's everyone's fault but your own.

Or how about this: for every hetero idiot who doesn't show the proper respect for marriage (i.e. who gets divorced for a selfish reason, ridicules the institution of marriage, and glorifies divorce - divorce from an abusive spouse or a calm, level-headed agreement that the couple just wasn't meant to be is still allowed), a gay couple gets a chance to do a better job. And to make it fair and not give a free pass to idiot homos who disrespect the institution of marriage the same way idiot heteros do, for every gay couple that divorces, they and the divorced hetero couple all kicked in the crotch on public TV. That way, people who actually appreciate marriage will stay married, gay or straight, and the bitter old hags and jackasses who don't appreciate it get abused for our entertainment. Voila, everyone's happy. Except for the miserable old hags and jackasses. But people who sabotage their own lives get no pity, so everyone who matters is happy.

nuclear_asshat: BTW, does it seem to anyone else that men rationalize to themselves why they are going to cheat, but that women want to rationalize it to the whole world? It's a generalization, but I wonder if it holds some water.

I think so. I don't know of any studies done on it but the women I know who have had affairs felt a need to 1) tell me about it without needing to be drunk, and 2) try to get me to agree that they were justified. First off, I didn't feel it was any of my business, and second, it's not my job to soothe their conscience.

Men on the other hand, usually need to be drunk before they talk, and then they tell you why she was a b*tch, and they don't care if you agree or not.

I decided what I hate most about this biatch. It's a horse race with her many other vomit inducing qualities, but here is the finalist for me.

Have some farking respect for your former partner and your kids by abstaining from writing about it. Don't write a long bloated story to rationalize your whoring. Do it quietly and with discretion like people have done for decades. Then feel guilty and try to never do it again.

Now it's not enough to cheat. People have to make a show of it and plead their case to feel like they are still a good person. She is far beyond a weak and selfish person. She's a attention whore who needs the world to love her.fark. If my gf ever farks some other dude (and maybe she has) I'd hope she has the decency to at least not be such and obvious and disrespectful coont.
