Yes she does. What are you smoking?

Weed, but thats beside the point. Do you have a stash of pics featuring lots of way hotter 47 year olds?

47 dude, 47.

Those guys are better off without those biatches.

I highly suspect 'Ian' is gay.

LOL, I am certain Ian is gay. 100%. And probably secretly hates the fish he has to live with to hold up his life lie.

People are crazy.

This is why it's much better to meet and date foreigners. Most women from Eastern Europe or Asia still have values such as loyalty, and wouldn't pull this kind of childish shiat.

In women's-magazine parlance, I did not have the strength to "work on" falling in love again in my marriage. And as Laura Kipnis railed in "Against Love," and as everyone knows, good relationships take work.

I've sincerely, honestly, never understood this line of thinking.

Does she have to "work on" loving her children? People make it all so much more complicated than it is. They somehow lose sight that it's life in general they've lost touch with, not just their husbands.

msannomalley: Just read the article. The author and her friends are a bunch of pretentious and self absorbed douchebaggettes. No wonder why her marriage failed.

I came to that conclusion after reading less than ½ of the article - good riddance to the coont.

Spike Lee's Favorite Farker: Doesn't look too shabby in this pic for a 47 year old woman.male bashing lesbian.

All you non-male bashing lesbians are okay with me, even if you are fat an ugly. I actually prefer my lesbians to be fat and ugly, because if there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that most women are at least vaguely curious, so the uglier you are the less I have to worry about.

Treygreen13: Other than the annoying YTMND link, you're partly right. That show is probably responsible for some women feeling like they are a victim when they cheat on their husband/boyfriend.

Sarah Jessica Parker's character is a neurotic cheating skank, and some women relate to that.

I think it's simply threefold
1) She was a neurotic whining loon. Many women can relate to that.
2) Her problems are either (1) funny little harmless quirks (like being constantly broke from compulsive spending) or (2) somebody else's fault.
3) She gets to fark the most desirable men in New York despite 1,2, and looking like a horse, and has a glamorous job as a columnist despite having nothing to say other than "yay, me".

I couldn't make it through the whole article. I just got a mental image of a whiny woman repeatedly saying, "I'm not happy! I'm not happy! I'm not happy!"

Lady, nobody promised you happiness, and you're not entitled to it. If you find it, good for you. It will probably come at the end of some sort of awful struggle; it tends to be that way. And then you better enjoy it, because it will probably be temporary. Eventually, it will come around again, after some more struggle. Hopefully you eventually learn that happiness is relative, and that the struggle is necessary for the happiness if only to give you a basis for comparison.

/Struggles a lot
//Occasionally happy

tricycleracer: withhold sex and comment on her weight.

I am a divorcee myself, but I am not bitter. My ex and I parted ways amicably after a few years of a young marriage, no kids to worry about, and no money to fight over. That being said, my ex never withheld sex and never commented on my weight (as it turned out my body was being misshapen not by fat, but by a tumor the size of a chihuahua, so it's a good thing he kept his tongue or he would have felt terrible after the ultrasound disclosing said chihuahua), and I can't imagine staying married to anyone who would be so cruel.

She probably needs to be the at the gym, but hasn't seen one in ages.

This goes both ways. If you don't even try to look good, then your partner will eventually start looking for someone who does.

unlikely: This is a baby boomer who loved Heinlein, isn't it?

I think the more important part is the "Baby Boomer" part. They are in many ways a generation of losers (though obviously that's a sweeping generalization, but hey, this is Fark :)). They've farked up their marriages in large numbers, farked up our government, political, and economic system royally as soon as they took control of it, and screwed their own children completely. Because it never stopped being all about them and their oh-so-"special" age cohort, even though they are now in their late 40's-early 60's. I know this is anecdotal, but I have a lot of friends whose Boomer parents totally screwed up their marriages for shallow reasons (mine did too). And I don't see the same sort of self-centered egotism among nearly as many younger people. So I'm beginning to wonder if it's just something particularly sick about the Boomers, rather than actually America in general.

mesmer242: Wow, that was horrible to read. And I don't just say that as someone who's getting married in two weeks.

I have no tolerance for people who whine "this doesn't work! I can't do this!" when it's really just that they've put zero effort into it, and haven't made it a priority at all.

You say that until you've done everything you can, and your partner is still whiney, pissed off all the time and never EVER wants to have sex.

When you're as self-centered as pop culture encourages you to be, love is hard work because it's about service. If you're conditioned to never put someone else's well-being above your own, it's really hard work to fake it.

Son, I believe we can go way past "probably". Personally, I'm going with man-hating lesbian that won't admit it, constantly seeking the next dick to satisfy that vagina shaped hole in her sanity, never pleased because while each thrust brings her closer to satisfaction she never gets the fulfillment from a man she gets from her shrill harpy fan club who lavish her with me-too praise and affection yet lack the necessary hardware to give her the good deep dicking she'd get just as well from a fisher price toy or produce aisle.

I admit it's anecdotal, and maybe you're right. Maybe it's just a lot more unbecoming to hear a 47 year-old mother with young kids whine about her sex life and justify her cheating than it is a young single person. At some point, you need to take responsibility and commit to the life you've chosen for yourself, if only to not leave a trail of personal destruction in your wake. That point is way before 47 years old and decades into your marriage.

Sheesh.

Gah! That's the way my mother and my female relatives all talk. I am too riddled with ADD to follow along, and I know I get that glazed over look in my eyes.

But you don't understand. Loving someone without thinking about it means that you just naturally treat other human beings with decency and respect. It means that you occasionally think about the needs and wants of others, and empathize with them.

Nope, it's much easier to fark a stranger, go to counseling, and then decide that I WAS VICTIMIZED WHARGGARRBLE and leave your loving husband. Because love is WORK, you see.
