Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 50% statistic is misleading. Isn't it between 60-67% of first marriages that succeed, with multiple divorcees bringing the total divorce numbers the rest of the way up?

Yeah, something that works almost 2 out of 3 times must be completely obsolete.

Lady, you'll have a leg to stand on when more than half of first marriages fail. Not sooner.

Dr.Knockboots: Umm, if they were together for 20years, and they were good to each other, fostered great relationships in and out of the family, raised kids.. etc..
Then I'd say their marriage was successful. Who defines a successful marriage as one that ends when a partner dies? That's bs..

You played for the same team for 20 years.. that's a hell of a track record. Congrats.. now go get some new ass

I'm pretty sure the "til death do you part" section of your marriage vows is what defines what should be the end of a marriage.

I mean, we don't vow to love, honor and cherish "until I get sick of you."

Same here. She is desperately trying to romanticise why she can't romanticise her marriage - so she sees this as a problem with the human race rather than an inability to face her flaws.

Too sugary for me to swallow.

I think that we, as a society, should evolve past (choose one: marriage, line dancing, billiards, Halo) because I'm not very good at it.

Dr.Knockboots: Umm, if they were together for 20years, and they were good to each other, fostered great relationships in and out of the family, raised kids.. etc..

1) 20 years of a marriage which is mostly spent building towards unhappiness instead of a lasting bond is more like a prison sentence.

2) They apparently weren't good to one another, which is why she started on a new piece of ass before divorcing the one she married.

3) Considering the equally-unhappy friends she has, she isn't doing well in the "great relationships" department, either.

4) The kids are still fairly young (pre-teen). They'll probably end up AWs like their mom, more's the pity.

Not much success coming out of that marriage that I can see.

I hate reading articles about self absorbed people rationalizing their behavior.

At the end of life, how far the center of the universe will seem.

She's got about 10 years before most the people she knows are going to start dying of all kinds of shiat. So enjoy your dinner parties lady.

Check the number on the few thousands marriages a year that mature (3 years) for immigration purposes only. I now live on the border again and know that it happens all the time. They can't track it. Damn canadians!

Au, contraire - Heinlein would have told her to stop being a biatch and take care of her man and family instead of playing "poor me" all the time.

This.

I'm stumped to that one unless it was a reflexive action, like Norm MacDonald coughing something up and saying "What the fark was that?!?" before he realized he was on live TV.

Other than the annoying YTMND link, you're partly right. That show is probably responsible for some women feeling like they are a victim when they cheat on their husband/boyfriend.

Sarah Jessica Parker's character is a neurotic cheating skank, and some women relate to that.

Roger Ebert made a similar analogy about the Indiana Jones series. In his review of Crystal Skull he compared each movie to a pound of sausage: you're excited about the first one, then progressively less so.

It's a pretty good one, borrowed or original.

Lots of "THIS" going on in this thread. I am pleasantly surprised that so many Farkers recognize a selfish, self-obsessed person when they run across her tortuous ramblings.

"Ian won't have sex with me," Rachel says flatly. "He has not touched my body in two years. He says it's because I've gained weight." Again, we stoutly protest, but she goes on. "And he thinks I'm a bad mother - he says I'm sloppy and inattentive."

This little coven of selfish biatches knows no bounds. This Ian guy makes me look like a kleptomaniac drunkard and she wants to leave him?

Maybe he's right, Rachel. Maybe your ass needs to get to the gym. He built you a goddamn kitchen. All he wants in return is some slim nookie.

If she does happen to move on and find another guy I hope that guy can find this article. Not just to find out how crazy she is but the fact that she cheated on her husband of 20 years. Anyone who does that is the lowest of the low and really deserves to be alone.

Yup. Initially I had "five pounds of bacon", but then I realized it was a terrible comparison as most farkers, myself included, can't imagine an excessive volume of bacon consumption.

Here's the bad news for the selfish biatch. Her next "relationship" is going to be with a 55 year old man. Meanwhile, her husband is going to be banging college cheerleaders that like his corvette and his gold card.

Do we still need marriage, Sandra? No, WE don't. YOU do.
