Samwise Gamgee: farmerdrizzt: Just read Neuromancer for the first time two months ago. Loved it. Quoted pieces to my wife. Had to make sure I never mentioned other parts to her.

Don't know or care about the time it was made. Incredible novel, Faulknerian in scope and execution. Timeless.

Let us not bullshiat here, some books are great.

Time to move on to the sequels/his other works. Read them in order.

Oh, and: you may actually prefer the next book, Count Zero, to Neuromancer. It's sort of the 'Empire Strikes Back' of the Neuromancer trilogy. Like Star Wars, Neuromancer set up the world in refreshing, revolutionary style, and like Empire, the world is established and the storytelling is a little tighter.

I'm not sure which one I prefer - probably Neuromancer by a slight edge - but you've got plenty of fun ahead of you.

You'll love the Bridge Trilogy, too.

Interesting. I had no idea. I have only in the last few years crossed over in to scifi reading. I don't research it, just grab a bunch of paperbacks for a .25 apiece and dive in. I find some good stuff that way.

I'll get those.

/"Rainbows End" by Vinge was a close second in terms of accuracy-of-vision, I suspect

If you don't hate the stuff, go watch the first half of the anime series "Dennou Coil".

Count Zero was definitely the better novel, but Neuromancer was the more important and influential novel that's shamelessly ripped off to this day by Hollywood, hack sci-fi writers, and video game designers.

Don't miss Burning Chrome, his collection of early short stories. "New Rose Hotel", which pretty much set up the cyberpunk genre, is about as good as Science Fiction gets. You'll need a cool drink and a cigarette after reading it.
