So it's just O'hare's computers?

It would be funny if a guy at the airport with a laptop and a portable printer could issue the tickets using O'hare's WiFi...

He could charge money and make a fortune. Like $5 for each person who wants a boarding pass.
$5 x thousands of United passengers = LOTS OF BEER MONEY!

Screw United. Never had anything but bad experiences with them.

About 10 years ago on the 4th this one dude used his laptop to hack into an alien computer, so I'd imagine you could print tickets.

True story.

This is what you get for naming your airport after somebody that got killed in a plane crash. O'Hare sucks rabbit turds in the best of times.

It was a Mac too. You think Apple would mention that in the "I'm A PC" ads. Hacking alien computers is certainly a selling point in my book.

Well, they did hire him to be their spokesman at around the same time.

Any farkettes stranded at Ohare can stay the weekend at my place downtown. You can stay in my guest room. I'm generous with my ruphenol alcohol. If you use my shower make sure that, when you lather your chest, you are facing the camera towel rack.

If you have to change planes to get somewhere (US Only), what is the best airport/airline to use?

I like frontier. They have little LCD TV sets in the seat in front of you that you can watch.

Anecdote time:

I was flying back to Chicago from LA a few weeks ago, and transferred in Minneapolis. I had a carry on, so I spent approximately 45 seconds walking from one gate to another to get on the connecting flight. Very easy and convenient.

Salt Lake City isn't bad. Denver is fine if you aren't going to Denver. Phoenix almost never has crappy weather so it's okay. Northern Kentucky is okay if you don't mind everybody chain smoking.

Flying on the holidays is the best. Cheap fares and empty airports. I do it whenever I can.

Yep. I've only flown through O'Hell on three round trips and spent almost 40 total hours there (but it did delay going to Wisconsin in January, sooooo...)

Huh. According to the bar at the top of that website, there are 263 traffic incidents in Chicago right now. Good thing I have the day off.

Ah yes, the infamous "computer glitch" responsible for so many problems...

My experience has been that computers do whet they are programmed to do. Chances are, what seemed at the time to be a minor upgrade / change can turn out to have unforeseen circumstances.

Typically in the air travel industry, certain days around peak travel times (Xmas, Spring Break, July 1-4, etc) are considered strictly "off-limits" to any change to information systems, unless it is to actually FIX a problem. Routine upgrades or builds are a big no-no. My guess is that someone had a deadline to meet and made what HE thought would be a minor change to one of their systems.

You can bet someone's head will deservedly roll at UA for this one.

Your options will really depend on where you are and where you want to go.

I will offer a few pieces of general advice:

- Take an early flight. Airports tend to get backed up in the afternoon.

- Changing planes is generally okay, but do not change carriers. Changing carriers usually means getting from one terminal to another during the layover.

- Even within the same carrier, try not to change from puddle-jumpers to real planes and vice versa, as this can also force you to go from one terminal to another.

- Go to the airport web site and get a feel for the layout. Look for trams, people movers, etc to make the changeover easier.

I used to work for UAL at EXO in CMO so I'd have to disagree with your last statement.
