What do the AC power elite think of this? Not everything can be run on batteries you know.

The two party system is fatally corrupt, and its media enablers without credibility. The government is broken.

And some people want to bail this shiat out? The press, especially the entire Washington press corp, is high on its own hubris.

But this shouldn't be read to mean that WaPo's sole purpose of existence is to be propagandists for the Democrat Party. They do sports too.

We need either a [Hypocrite] or [Republican] tag for situations like this.

Is there a particular thread you're talking about or just in general?

When the Weymouth clan took over the Washington Post is when it took its hard right turn and began shedding credibility like a Persian cat in a Sauna. It's not shocking to me that Katherine Weymouth (daughter of Lally who was daughter of the legendary Katherine Graham who was publisher during the Watergate years) would sink this low, only that it happened this fast

Something is fishy in the Potomac.

It isn't that mysterious. The Politico is getting a lot more attention as the Inside Baseball of Federal politics. The WaPo has been steadily losing money and this is just one more nail in the coffin. The new upstart David is looking to score another point against the lumbering Goliath.

Washington in general...the WH, Congress, lobbying and the Wash. press corps seem to be more disfunctional than ever before.

The spin has made them so dizzy they have not even noticed that the
'Stimulus' is going nowhere.

'Stocks tumbled Thursday after a report showed more jobs were lost last month than expected. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly 200 points'

Congress looks real busy though, on their travel budget that has tripled since Dems took over Congress.

Mexico is the same with people having to pay bribe money to see officials or get something done. Mexico has oil, a beautiful country, hard working people, you think it could be a successful country. But the bribe system sucks there and seems to hold people back from getting things done.

Left wing, right wing... doesn't make a damn bit of difference when the corporations are setting the flight plan.

Anyone know if a guest list has surfaced yet? I'm not surprised that there are plenty of lobbyists out there willing to pay 25k for a night of conversation (and promises of many many more k's thereafter), that's pretty much their job description. I'm more curious about who the most desperate for money senators, congressmen/women and appointed officials are.

Perhaps it would have been even worse without it. It was never billed as some sort of magical fix; it was billed as a way to try to pull the economy out of free-fall.

Dude, this is great. You suck in huge fees, and then spin what the lobbyist says and do what you would have wrote anyway. People will be paying 250k to get misquoted in the media.

Who can top a counterfactual argument like that? Maybe it also stopped an alien invasion. Who knows? Instead, let's take the estimates of the Obama administration at the time that stimulus was being pushed and compare it to actual performance.

So you're claiming that we can magically know what would have happened if it hadn't been done?

Look up the word "estimate" in the dictionary and get back to us when you understand what it means.

FTFA: UPDATE : Mike Allen posted an entire story and will include WaPo's response when it arrives. Of course, this has also been Drudge bombed .

UPDATE 2 : Fark has jumped into fray .

UPDATE 3: Politico doesn't look to be backing down. They're pushing this story against their media brethren on their front page.

Update from my friend, your mentor, Michelle Malkin

"The Washington Post says its newsroom didn't know about the pimp deal its business/marketing side was making. The flyer advertising pay-per-view meetings with Washington Post reporters and editors and Obama officials wasn't properly "vetted," the paper tells Politico.

Uh-huh:
So: We are supposed to believe that WaPo chief and publisher Katharine Weymouth did not know that her business division was planning to use her home to hold lucrative salons cashing in on her connections and and celebrity.

Ouch, stop, stop. Sides. Splitting."

Aaaaaactually... I think conventiional wisdom is that the 1.5 trillion bank bailout, in combination with AIG bailout and GM bailouts were meant to stop a declining economy.

the two unstimulus bills of 700+billion (porkulous I and Porkulous II) Were not going to save the free fall of any economy
they were just two bills where O said to Pelosi "give me a bill under a trillion of all the earmarks and pork you have been wanting for the last decade. And we'll ram it thru without the 5 day review...or any person reading the whole thing...". Oh,and it will all be BORROWED money.

It was sold as creating jobs, which it did not do.
It was to 'stimulate' along with the other bailouts and we have just not seen the financial markets do much as a result. They do not have much faith in toxic debt, borrowed, and meant to create a small bubble in the markets. It did not, and has not yet exuded consumer confidence.

Jobs are down, this 4th of July markets are down. Stimulus is unstimulating....so far.
