Joliet_Jake: Not really. There just happened to be a lot more bad news for McCain. If you looked at the positive numbers in perspective to other sources of news, Fox News was still way off the reservation.

Sometimes it seems like you try rationality, other times like this, it's like you are trolling or having a weird bi-polar attack.

You need to reserve their Fark handle once they are born.

What? Apologizing? Nah, they let anyone do that. ;)

Not sure if it you have to be TF to pull up archived threads, but you can use google to search Fark.

Maybe you misunderstood my post. That study was tracking throughout the primary and general election season. Obama had more positive stories surrounding his repeated primary wins over Hillary Clinton during the spring, in addition to repeated polling throughout the entire general election campaign showing him ahead. Add to this the repeated negative stories surrounding the terrible rollout of Sarah Palin and there's really no competition. Granted, the Reverend Wright thing had some legs, but that was pretty much a 1 week story.

She's doing well, thanks. About 50 days to go, although they say 1st babies go a little over in general. She's enjoying it, but wants the baby out and healthy and wants those 50 days over soon, dammit! :D

Do you really believe there's some real difference between these two parties? They've been gaming us since the civil war.

yeah look at what you predicted:

GaryPDX: I can't complain..my stead went up 22% in the last year. Real Estate is where it's at. And no..I don't believe it's a bubble. Look at the KELO decision..developers are going fast and furious all across the land... because...there's only so much dirt. It's turning into gold.

Yep..and everyone believed that too. I admit believing it for a while.

I can see your point, I misinterpreted your original post. We just have different opinions on which stories were and should have been reported on, for how long and why etc... I think the study was not on "positive stories", but general tone of coverage.

Yeah, but it was measured based on the number of stories. Which, granted, is a retarded way to judge tone of coverage. And, just to cover my intellectual honesty bases, it's possible that Fox's reporting style is such that the nature of the negative Obama stories in comparison to the negative McCain stories threw their numbers off the median. I just think that's pretty unlikely.

Yes. I'm clearly guilty of all those things. I post maybe 10 times a week in Fark comments, and it's never more than 2-3 sentences, with the occasional history or civics lesson for those who want to pretend to not understand something. But hey, don't defend yourself, just respond with a completely irrelevant list of imaginary positions!

If you can't take it, don't dish it out. You popped off with the generalizations, I can't help it if mine hit close to home. Particularly given your demonstration of point 5.

ghare: occrider: I work for one of the banks that repaid tarp so I'm getting a kick and so and so ...

No seriously, the tarp money essentially sat in a holding account and did absolutely nothing because everyone was scared shiatless of having to account for how it was spent (god forbid some portion of it were used for standard BAU operations and the public would focus on some insignificant amount used on perceived waste resulting in a PR nightmare). Meanwhile, the government made out like a bandit on ridiculous dividend payments and warrants.

Sounds like a really smart move on the government's part, eh? Not that Bush intended it to be.

So let me get this straight.

We took almost a trillion dollars that we didn't have, gave it to distressed banks that did nothing with it other than pay interest on it, the government now wants to use the interest from the nonexistent money that did absolutely nothing to pay for projects we don't need.

How was this a bright idea again?

The point of TARP was to keep the credit markets from completely freezing up by providing an excess of capital. It worked perfectly, so yeah, I'd say it was a good idea.

Rational Exuberance 2009-07-02 02:22:09 PM
I hate the way the word profit is used here. Maybe in an accounting sense it is profitable, but I seriously doubt in any economic one. Completely ignores any opportunity cost. If it costs you 7% to borrow and yout make 4% profit, you actually have lost money. But on the books it might look you've made money.

Actually, the cap and trade system is exactly the same as the one in place for CO2 now if this passes. The scale really shouldn't matter much.

I understand though. It works, it doesn't support your WARGRBBL, so toss it out.

I'm honestly not sure either way. I'm pretty sure any number of markets are going to have to adjust. That might have been easier just after 1990 when money was flowing like water due to the bubble.
