I know furries via Fark mentions. Goofy, yeah, but pretty harmless. For many decades the Playboy Clubs dressed sexy girls up in bunny ears and cotton-tails. So, like everything else, it's only a matter of degree.

Certainly someone dressing up in a costume for consensual adult sex play is funny in the same way that the relatively more mainstream BDSM stuff is funny but hardly worthy of hate or death.

The reason we have a juvenile justice system to begin with is because we understand the reality that the brains of kids, even adolescents, are not fully formed. They do not yet have adult capabilities in making sound judgements. That said, it is an obscenity and an immorality that we decide to suspend that idea whenever we feel some kid really needs to be taught a lesson.

It's an aspect of the deeper and more offensive obscenity that our justice system is not as much about making sure someone - anyone - pays and pays big.

I would like to see the same outrage every time a kid is "tried as an adult" for a crime that I see every time a kid does something that feels neat-o with his/her genitalia.

No, people hate furries because between 5 and 10 years ago they were some of the most obnoxious, self-righteous drama queen attention whores on the internet. They were generally fat, felt genuinely persecuted by people snickering at them, were easily baited, and always sexed up, back when the internet was Geocities and Livejournal. Think of goths/emos of the 90's, or fark threads about bicyclists and cyclist forums and you're on the mark.

Then myspace came along and everyone forgot about them. Without all the attention, I'm sure most have moved on.
