"I'm trying to say that, 'Look, if you are on a diet and you want to eat healthy, there are healthy things you can eat at Waffle House,' " Barron said, "because nobody thinks there is."

In particular, Barron plugs her favorite meal - grilled chicken, steamed hash browns and scrambled eggs.

Yeah, because when I'm drunk at three in the morning and hitting a WH my main concern is getting healthy food.

And "steamed" hash browns? They call those "boiled potatoes" in my world.

/chunked, smothered, covered FTW

Lots of THIS. It wasn't until I got married that I went to one without being stoned. I've never had the runs from WH, that's usually a result of Krystals.

/won't touch Krystals even when drunk

I like the Waffle House. I've eaten in them from Virginia to Arizona. Greasy and delicious, you always know what you're going to get. For me it's that little sirloin, two eggs over easy, hash brown scattered, smothered, covered and chunked, extra toast, coffee, and water.

What marathon? The Peachtree is not a marathon. It's about 20 miles short of a marathon.

Nuc_E 2009-07-02 09:05:45 AM
I found out that Waffle House is much more enjoyable when you are sober, and its well before bar closing time.

I usually stop in once or twice a month for a plate of hash browns all the way.

FTA:

"(Waffle House does not publish nutritional data of its food, and only provided information about the chicken.)"

I wonder why

WinoRhino 2009-07-02 09:08:27 AM
On a related note, some of my best distance runs ever came after a night of drunken antics. Granted, I'm not especially fast, but it is surprising when you pull off a 20 miler in 3:14 after 3 hours of sleep while feeling horribly hungover.

Waffle House won't publish calories on the rest of the food items because it IS so unhealthy for you.

/Runners consume more calories than most people.
//Waffle House only healthy for you if your an athlete.
///Otherwise... your an overweight Southerner.

Winning the Boston marathon is sorta special amoung distance runners. If she won that the odds are pretty good she's run in and placed very highly or won others. (at least under current rules you have to have run a qualifying marathon under a certain time or be a massacheusets resident to run in the boston.) All that said waffle house is pretty decent food for the convience and cost. Its fat and sodium content are a little high but it you are reasonably physically active you can pretty much ignore fat contents within reason. (IE a person that runs 4 miles per day is ok to eat half again as many calories and twice as much fat. 7 times the fat and sodium would still be bad.). Kinda cool to see runner endorsements going more mainstream.

/I really really should get serious about running again.
//Current fatty, former runner, changed the lifestyle but not the diet.

Philly 2009-07-02 09:26:17 AM
Who would have figured she's a spokesperson for Waffle House. Is this how the AJC makes money now?

The AJC is the worst paper in America. Some kid came to my door the other day trying to get me to buy his toilet paper called the AJC, and I just laughed and closed the door.

You're under the assumption that I've never had Starbucks? I assure you, I have and I have decided I'd rather drink cat shiat squeezed through a filter than their over-priced burned "coffee". If I'm going to drink an over-priced cup of trendy coffee, it's going to come from Atlanta Bread Company. But I can tell you without doubt that the best coffee I've ever had in my life was the chicory coffee at Cafe du Monde in Jackson Square NOLA. I might just punch my grandmother in the face to get to a cup of that stuff with a beignet.

WTF is it with people burning coffee? Seriously, who loves burnt coffee? I understand roasting it but there's a difference between roasting it and burning it. I've been drinking this lately (new window)

It actually taste like coffe and not something scraped out of the bottom of my muffler.

Maxor: have to have run a qualifying marathon under a certain time or be a massacheusets resident to run in the boston.)

Being a resident doesn't help at all. I ran Boston 5 times and only once as a registered runner, and I am from here. The only ways to get in is to meet the qualifying time for your age group in an official Boston qualifying race, get hooked up with the limited number of charity spots and earn a number by raising $2,000+ for them, or if you're lucky, you belong to a local running club and the BAA tosses your group a few free bibs and you get one that way. Otherwise, you show up on race day, stand on the street in back of all the real runners, and after they start you run as a bandit (which officials don't particularly care about, really.)

But yeah, if you win Boston you're elite. And quite possibly african.

You sommavabiatch. That stuff is EXCELLENT! If you haven't tried it yet, crush some macadamia nuts along with your beans before you brew.
Fark! Now I REALLY wants some! The Kauai coffee is also really good. Spent a lot of time out there and the best coffee always came from the little hole in the wall right next to the plantation.

The best long-distance rides I've done (300k and farther) have been started out on a belly full of McD's sausage McMuffins and hash browns. For some reason, that junk is awesome power food for cycling.

If you are going to eat a poblano, you might as well just order a potatoe. Poblanos are tasteless unless stuffed with cheese and spiced up taco meat, covered with a good sweet salsa, with maybe some stewed rasins, walnuts and a dab of sour cream thrown on top.

\La Bodega in Midland TX. Here I come.
