I was unaware that the value of gold was relative to country. I thought its value was set through international markets, IMF regulations...etc.

yes, international markets determine the value of gold. however 1 US dollar is not necessarily = to one Canadian dollar.

I personally believe that US Americans are unable to locate Canada on a map because uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as South Africa and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as and I believe that they should...our education over here in the US should help the US or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children.

If you go directly South from Detroit, you end up in Canada.

FLMountainMan: I'm seeing what you did there, it's just not that funny or entertaining. By that same hilarious logic, why don't we make jokes that France borders Canada?

France is the country nearest to Canada, besides the United States. (new window)

That would make sense if the mint was in Windsor and not Ottawa...

Subby didn't say "no city South of the US". Ottawa is in a country South of the US, even if Ottawa itself is north.

If insiders doing it, better to take the gold about to be melted for coins, mixing in other metals to make up the difference. All the gold used would be accounted for, theft not being discovered until some coin buyer does a test on their supposedly pure gold coin.
Some gold coins minted are pure gold, most of the US gold coins are 90% gold, 10% copper. for hardness, pure gold is softer.

Canadian gold Maple Leaf coins are 99.9% pure gold, makes then all soft and pliable. The chocolate ones even more so.

maxspeed, the "accidentally a" is a meme at Fark, in the same way a clear, tasteless alcoholic beverage is referred to as "Vodak".

You'll pick up on these sort of things over time.

Actually, the chocolate ones - not so much. Have you been to Canada? Chocolate is not malleable at 20 below.

I kinda laughed to myself thinking, wouldn't it be funny if someone suggested that I needed to consider national currency. Never thought anyone would be stupid enough, however, when the the missing gold was also accounded for in Troy ounces. Congradulations, you proved me wrong.

Ok really, if subby is saying that because an obscure protrusion of Canada falls south of the US, then ok but stupid headline because you have to reach too far.

If subby is referring that a good bit of Canada falls south of Alaska, then ok but stupid headline because if the joke has to be explained, it isn't funny.

If subby is referring to the aforementioned fact that people will start looking south for Canada on a map, then ok but the only idiots that would do that wouldn't get the joke anyway, and the rest have to take a minute to understand what you're saying.

All in all, headline fail. It got greenlit simply for the sake of entertaining thread confusion.

Since when is 17,500 troy ounces of gold worth only $2 American?

Sizable parts of Canada are also farther east than the U.S.
Give up, we have you surrounded.
