My favorite line in the article, Sarah blatantly lying about her husband's involvement in the secessionist Alaska Independence Party, and the goals of the AIP itself:

[Secession] is not part of their platform and he was only a 'member' bc independent alaskans too often check that 'Alaska Independent' box on voter registrations thinking it just means non partisan," Palin wrote. "He caught his error when changing our address and checked the right box. I still want it fixed."

Yeah, you might want to tell the AIP that Todd isn't a member and that secession isn't a part of their platform.

So who do you like for 2012? Pawlenty? Mitt "Magic Underwear" Romney? Rudy "One State Strategy" 9iu11ani? Chucklebee? Jindall's not ready, Crist is too fabulous, and Sanford's gone full retard.

"These internal communications and debates are in reference to a campaign that no longer exists," Recher said. "It proves wrong the anonymous claims that Governor Palin didn't seek or follow counsel from senior strategists on a wide array of issues. Sarah Palin has moved on with her life and continues to have a positive impact on so many. We should follow her lead and do the same."

I can see how he could work for Palin. He doesn't see reality either.

None of them. Both parties have gone completely mad. If the economy is in the tank and the taxes are killing any chance of economic regrowth, Obama might get a second term on sheer independent voter apathy alone. On the other hand if a strong third party candidate appears and doesn't have the taint of fruitcake about them there could be a grassroots rebellion like the Perot phenom, I highly doubt it. It's going to take the Republicans at least two terms to rebrand and rebuild. That's my prediction and I have been known to be wrong occasionally.

Her delusions and pettiness ideally would make her unfit to be the President of the Mat-Su Borough PTA.

Every office I've ever worked in has had a woman like Sarah Palin.

In the least painful cases she was just the crazy receptionist who would write two-page passive-aggressive notes because someone threw out a yogurt container instead of recycling it.

In the most painful cases she was the manager who stole everyone's good ideas, spent her entire day shopping online and threw tearful temper tantrums whenever anyone disagreed with her.

If I may offer a safety tip: if you work with a Sarah Palin no matter HOW many margaritas she inhales at Happy Hour and no matter how aggressively she "dances" with you, do not, under any circumstances, go home with her unless you've already turned in your two weeks notice OR the next day you're planning violent, gory suicide.

"Secession," he wrote. "It is their entire reason for existence. A cursory examination of the website shows that the party exists for the purpose of seceding from the union. That is the stated goal on the front page of the web site. Our records indicate that todd was a member for seven years. If this is incorrect then we need to understand the discrepancy. The statement you are suggesting be released would be innaccurate. The innaccuracy would bring greater media attention to this matter and be a distraction. According to your staff there have been no media inquiries into this and you received no questions about it during your interviews. If you are asked about it you should smile and say many alaskans who love their country join the party because it speeks to a tradition of political independence. Todd loves his country

We will not put out a statement and inflame this and create a situation where john has to adress this."

Who is more "average"- the child of a single mother who worked his way through college and married a middle class woman, or the son and grandson of admirals who married a beer heiress?

I passed a guy about a month ago driving an 80s-vintage Chevy Cavalier covered with stickers that should have earned him a restraining order.

One was a version of the red/blue Obama "Change" poster with Palin, and at the bottom it said "HOTTIE"
One read "I'm voting for the HOT CHICK!"
One read "PALIN: A BABE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!"

It just reaffirmed my belief that many conservative men voted for Palin only because, deep down in their hearts, they believed after the election Palin was going to show up at their door one night wearing a teddy made from actual bear and purr "I want to show you how I thank a REAL American."

FTFA:

"That's not part of their platform and he was only a 'member' bc independent alaskans too often check that 'Alaska Independent' box on voter registrations thinking it just means non partisan," Palin wrote. "He caught his error when changing our address and checked the right box. I still want it fixed."

Palin was attempting to bend the facts ever so slightly to fit neatly into her version of events. In truth, the box that Alaskans have the option of checking when registering to vote states the full name of the party, "Alaskan Independence Party," not "Alaska Independent," which would make an error by uncommitted voters more plausible.

Clearly irritated by what he saw as Palin's attempt to mislead her own campaign and apparently determined to demonstrate that the ultimate authority rested with him, Schmidt put the matter to rest once and for all with a longer response to everyone in the e-mail chain.

We will not put out a statement and inflame this and create a situation where john has to adress this."

Schmidt's rebuttal to Palin's suggestion that reporters had asked her about the issue was particularly blunt in that it implicitly questioned her truthfulness. Furthermore, his unwillingness to budge an inch on the matter was a remarkable assertion of his power to pull rank over the candidate herself.

Palin was silent after his second e-mail and the campaign did not issue the statement she demanded.

Considering the recent articles being written about Palin and the campaign, and that nothing notable has happened with her recently, I'm assuming that this is simply a lot of intelligent GOP members and operatives trying to make the public hate her before the 2012 campaigns start.

Because if those campaigns start and she is still the darling of the lunatic fringe that makes up such a large % of the GOP right now, that party is in serious trouble.

The far-right has already thrown Pawlenty under the bus for certifying Franken's victory. Which is pretty great, since he's the only Republican possibility that's vaguely electable.

Republicans, however, are predictable; they believe in dynasties and name recognition over actual quality or likability. The 2012 candidate will be an old, established Republican, along the lines of Newt Gingrich or Mittens.

If Charlie Crist stays in the Republican party he's toast. He's preparing to pull an Arlen. He has a primary opponent for his Senate run (Marco Rubio) who's pulling endorsements from all the big conservative outlets.

That's troubling. You shouldn't be a Republican, getting your positions from on high. That's what they do; they support who they're told to support without wondering why. You should independently look up Crist's positions, evaluate them and come to your own conclusions.

Remember, what separates us from them is more than policy. We hold our policies not because they're "ours" but because we've genuinely thought them out and we think they are worthy goals. That includes being free to change them as the situation changes.

That said, I like Crist a bit; I'm a little troubled that he seems willing to compromise his integrity on some issues (environmentalism) to toe the Republican mainstream, and he's a bit more fiscally conservative than I would like, but he sees the way the wind is blowing. Plus, I'm like 90% sure he's gay, which means he's likely more socially liberal than most Republicans.

As a former Florida student, I hate that bastard. There's this horrendous joke of a standardized test that every public school teaches to, because students have to pass it to pass high school. Long story short, first generation immigrants = I learn NOTHING without pursuing it myself. And then I had a load of bullshiat from the test I had to do that amounted to 2-hour-long busy work.

Shes a pathological liar. Sure, the stuff we see everyday might be little white lies, but what the hell does it say about a persons character that they lie with every word out of their mouth, as long as they think it makes them look good?

They're not even political lies, ones that are gray.

Go check out Andrew Sullivan for some documentation.

This woman is a nut case.

The entire problem is that this woman doesn't think or plan anything.

She schemes. She's a paranoid dolt and diva with a minimal understanding of the job she's expected to do.

What still kills me is that the GOP faithful knew her for less than 2 months between the time McCain chose her until the elections. They still have no idea about anything she's ever done in Alaska (other than the exaggerations and flat-out lies about her record), yet worship her as their forthcoming savior.

Yea, it really comes down the the economy. If the economy is doing well in 2012 Obama will be re-elected. If not a third party candidate probably has the best shot its had in decades.

Kristol cited a passage in Purdum's piece in which "some top aides" were said to worry about the Alaska governor's "mental state" and the prospect that the Alaska governor may be suffering from post-partum depression following the birth of her son Trig. "In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin's mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt," Kristol wrote.

Asked about the accusation, Schmidt fired back in an e-mail: "I'm sure John McCain would be president today if only Bill Kristol had been in charge of the campaign."

"After all, his management of [former Vice President] Dan Quayle's public image as his chief of staff is still something that takes your breath away,"
Schmidt continued. "His attack on me is categorically false."

see and the truly frightening thing about this woman is, that I firmly believe that in her mind, once she's come up with a plausible explanation for an inconvenient truth, that explanation IS the truth, whether it started out that way or not. It was just a careless mistake, I want it fixed, make it go away. They're not really about secession anyway.

Damn, Palin got told.

I hope Palin does the only prudent thing and runs her own campaign next time around, she seems to really be on top of things.

Palin without a firm grasp of national politics? Unpossible.

Just shows not only the magnitude of bad decision making by McCain, it shows the sheer level of stupidity the GOP base occupies by thinking Palin was a good choice, too.

McCain didn't have many options thanks to Bush's failures. Being a craps player he rolled the dice on Palin, and in the extreme short term it paid off with lots of coverage and lots of initial excitement. In terms of the campaign I can't really fault him for the decision. When you are losing something that bad there are no bad decisions except doing nothing. However, putting that woman in position to take over the presidency was irresponsible. This was the moment that I realized John McCain was not the earnest straight talker I had come to believe him to be, but a desperate cynic.

As far as the stupidity of Republicans, most of the Republicans I know would admit that they thought she was an idiot as long as it was a one on one conversation. Republicans voters are not stupid, they just know how to fall in line.

There were plenty of frothy mouthed Palin supporters, but there were likely just as many Obama supporters who literally knew nothing about him except that he was black and had heard him say that he was going to change things. There are a certain number of idiots in this country who can be swayed by repetitive slogans or race baiting insinuations, and that's just the way it is. Its not fair to take these idiots as representative of the greater body of the Republican or Democratic voters (though from my perspective it does seem the Republican party is much more active in making their appeals to the fearful).

speaking only for myself,I go invited by a friend to a fund-raising dinner for him when he was polling in 3rd place for the Democratic Senate primary. I left the building saying to that friend, "if we were the country we pretend to be, that man would be president someday instead of an Also-ran for the Senate"

Someday someone will write about this and you will be remembered as one of the Apostles.

JohnBigBootay: Sygerrik: That said, I like Crist a bit; I'm a little troubled that he seems willing to compromise his integrity on some issues (environmentalism) to toe the Republican mainstream, and he's a bit more fiscally conservative than I would like, but he sees the way the wind is blowing. Plus, I'm like 90% sure he's gay, which means he's likely more socially liberal will sponsor legislation to have homosexuals rounded up and put in internment camps than most Republicans.

Fixed that for you. Have you not been paying attention? The closet cases are by far the most conservative.

Yeah but he's not likely to be in the closet for long. As soon as he loses his Senate race he'll come out, switch parties and try again in 2016.

Agent Nick Fury: Magorn: Theaetetus: Agent Nick Fury: Ikam: Agent Nick Fury: Nobody knew who Obama was three years before the last election.

Really? Nobody?

Perhaps, being from Chicago I knew about him sooner than the average joe did, but most people who were paying attention remember him from his 2004 keynote speech at the DNC (which is what really started his national political career, in my opinion).

There was a ballgame on that night so I must have missed it.

Don't you have a ballgame to be watching for the next 7 and a half years?

Davey Croquette: If Charlie Crist stays in the Republican party he's toast.

You're nuts. Crist is the new Republican. He's on a frontier Democrats don't want to admit exists.

If Crist can keep his foot out of his mouth for another 3 years, he just may have a chance. He really isn't all that bright, but the people love him. And given a choice between "Chain Gang Charlie" and 4 more years of Obama, conservatives will line up behind him.

Sarah Palin has moved on with her life and continues to have a positive impact on so many.

That is true. I am STILL laughing.

It was painful to watch the first time, moreso now.

I don't know how to take this whole kerfuffle... that there were folk in the McCain campaign that weren't willing to put up with this crap, or that they're being vilified by people who actually think this woman could actually perform well at the highest levels of public office.

Both I guess, meaning that there are people who are conservative and not batshiat crazy, and those who are all to willing to follow the batshiat crazy.

technicolor-misfit: I certainly hope the faithful aren't swayed by these evil Democrat lies. If the Republican party is to have any chance in 2012, they MUST see through these crass smears by the Democrat Party. She is our last best hope.

Sarah, stay strong. My fellow Republicans, stray strong for Sarah. She is going to need our strength in order to lead us out of the woods.

I could not agree more! She is the parties last and only hope. God bless you Sarah Palin! God Bless you!

Cinaed: and those who are all to willing to follow the batshiat crazy.

I think that bothers me more. The moderates who are complaining that the nutjobs have taken over their party have a legitimate beef - but let's not forget that they allowed it happen. They were perfectly willing to put their so-called values on the back burner as long as it meant winning on election day. The crazies are at least sincere.

Sarah Palin says (insert something stupid). (Insert Famous person) makes fun of her. Palin gets outraged. (Insert Famous person) apologizes. Palin accepts apology and says (something even more stupid) in the retort.

Rinse, repeat.

Media publishes the entire cluster fark.

You think McCain and Palin don't hate each other?

If John McCain could dump her body in the desert, he'd be at Home Depot shopping for shovels right now.

And I'm sure she'd be more than happy to set him adrift on an ice floe.

He thinks she's a moron who went off-script and torpedoed any shot their campaign had... She thinks he tried to box her in and pigeonhole her and kept her from really shining and living up to what she imagines is her true potential.

BTW, I have always kinda like Crist...is he a douche or is it ok to like him?

He's ok. By Florida standards he's one of the few sane politicians left.
