I remember the Guitar World review of that album, "SHT."

I enjoyed this comment, mostly because it sounds kind of dirty:

"Anything churned out by the Disney Tweener Music Machine
And the first one in the hole will be Miley Cyrus. (Can you tell I have a young daughter?)"

Hey awesome guys post some more album covers that everyone has already seen a million times. Then we can talk about Duke Nukem and Chinese Democracy and zombie apocalypse plans while we 69 in the cab of my daddy's pickup truck.

danduran: The Ninj': I liked Chinese Democracy for the most part - it certainly wasn't horrible. It was just severely over compressed

Lol, wut (new window)?

People who don't know shiat about music or mixing just go "oh man, that's way to compressed" because it sounds cool to say.

Anyway, I really, really like Chinese Democracy. I don't care if it's the Axl Rose band or whatever, some damn good tunes on there, at least 1/2 the disc anyway.

It has no business being on the list. None at all.

It's on there, methinks, because the shiathead 'reviewer' thought he HAD to put it up there or he'd lose some sort of 'cred' or something.

Chinese Democracy is better than Death Magnetic, too.

And why aren't Black Eyed Peas on that list? MY LUMPS. One of the stupidest song written and recorded in, well, ever.

Without country or rap? Well I guess that would be too obvious and too long a list. Nevermind.

There are some REALLY good songs on CD. Better, Sorry, This I Love, off the top of my head. The problem is it isn't, and nothing ever could be Appetite part II. Only CD I've bought for myself in the last year.

I loved that album at the time, and most of Side 1 and a few tracks on Side 2 still hold up for me. Side 3 does get a little bloated and tedious though.

FeedTheCollapse:

bullshiat. It would've been considered a solid turd of Nu-Metal had it had been released by anyone other than Axl.

Nu Metal? Did you even listen to the whole thing, or just the lead single? I know that the current view of things on here is that it was a huge bomb, but it got generally favorable reviews and sold pretty well for an album that was leaked 3 years ago. I'm a fan of Guns N Roses and the album was better than I expected.

FeedTheCollapse:
Tron Lafontaine: Chinese Democracy wasn't THAT bad, it just wasn't what anybody expected what with the three lone rock songs and then 60 solid minutes of slow, down-tempo power ballads.

Chinese Democracy would've sounded dated even if it had come out in 1997. I swear, every positive review of that album read like the reviewer had not listened to music since UYI.

I didn't think it sounded dated(Buckethead and Bumblefoot both sound like they are from the future), but I don't really care too much if music sounds dated as long as it sounds good.

This, for the most part. At worst, Chinese Democracy is mediocre.

A bit off topic but...

Soundgarden's Superunknown and NIN's Downward Spiral came out on the same day in '94. I am a huge fan of both and I bought both CDs. I put on Superunknown first and waited the tedious 40 some odd minutes for the goddamned thing to get done. After Badmotorfinger, christ what a disappointment.

Downward Spiral is still in my top 10 ever.

But when you sound like a Static-X clone, who were Ministry clones 5 years too late to the party...

admittedly, I didn't listen to the whole album. What little I did hear was, by any measure, terrible. I stand by my statement that any positive reviews the album received came across like someone who hasn't listened to any music since UYI.

No Milli Vanilli, or Vanilla Ice?

I tend to think any autotuned album should be thrown into that hole. I'd rather listen to Brian Wilson singing occasionally off key that any of those robotic voices I hear on those over produced pieces of crap sung by people with little or no talent.

Since the record company thought it would sell better with the sticker.

I don't know. Just the clearest image I could find the fastest.

The Black Album is boring and uninteresting. It isn't even a bad album. It just is. It stands as a monolithic tribute to mediocrity. The sheer averagness of the album prevents it from being listenable. It is unbearable to listen to. It lacks any characteristics that make a good album good or a bad album bad.

Candygram4Mongo: Montag19: Not so bad. Redeems Sgt. Peppers.

Well, not sure what you're referring to there, but Robin Gibb's rendition of "Oh Darling" almost redeems Sgt. Peppers.

Aerosmith and Robin Gibb almost redeem the album. Billy Preston's version of "Get Back" is good, too. And, I may be the only one, but I actually like Steve Martin's version of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer."

I don't think the album belongs on the list. I also think that the soundtrack from "Tommy" is much, much worse. Even with the band's direct involvement, hearing Ann-Margret, Oliver Reed and Jack Nicholson (yes, that Jack Nicholson) sing makes most of the album a painful experience.

/for the record, the original version of "Tommy" is one of my favorite albums

It's right here.

(As IMHO that that whole moronic framework/system deserves to be tossed into a black whole, I don't think ANY album necessitates a PA sticker. But well...you know...)

I thought for sure Velvet Revolver: Contraband would be on that list. That thing was completely unlistenable. I actually paid for that CD. I took it back a few days later for half store credit.

By the way, have all of these suggestions being thrown out been actually listened to in their entireties by those suggesting them or are they albums that have been decreed as worthless by others?

Earth, Wind & Fire's Got to Get You Into My Life is the only cover of a Beatles song that is better than the original.

Thank You Black Jesus!: I put on Superunknown first and waited the tedious 40 some odd minutes for the goddamned thing to get done. After Badmotorfinger, christ what a disappointment.

I couldn't listen to Superunknown for years because "Black Hole Sun" got beaten to death, resurrected, beaten some more, burned at the stake, the ashes used to make cement for a statue that got beaten into powder, and then left to slowly sink into the dirt. About six years ago I listened to it again, and realized what an excellent album it was. I think Soundgarden's career was worth it just for "Fresh Tendrils" alone.

I'm genetically incapable of believing a cover song can be superior to an original (just as in my view a remake cannot surpass the original film). I will say however that (IMHO) Isaac Hayes' extended (lasting twelve glorious minutes) string-and-horn drenched "Something" comes the closest to surpassing the original recording. With E,W & F's "GTGYIML" being second runner up.

So then it's possible (I'll grant you unlikely, but within the realm of possibility) that you might take a liking to what you heard if in fact you allowed yourself the time to listen to it? (Or at least knock it out of the running as the ABSOLUTE WORST music you've ever willingly subjected yourself to).

ohh, if only GNR had rastafarianized their album, 15% or so!
