Why?

Chinese Democracy wasn't THAT bad, it just wasn't what anybody expected what with the three lone rock songs and then 60 solid minutes of slow, down-tempo power ballads.

Chinese Democracy would've sounded dated even if it had come out in 1997. I swear, every positive review of that album read like the reviewer had not listened to music since UYI.

Hey I actually liked Chinese Democracy...at least the first 3 or 4 songs. Which is more than I can say for a lot of other albums out there.

The Ninj' 2009-07-01 05:52:22 PM
I liked Chinese Democracy for the most part - it certainly wasn't horrible. It was just severely over compressed and over produced and the songs didn't live up to the expectations of what you would expect from an album 14 years in the making. The song Catcher in the Rye is excellent, its up there with Estranged and November Rain, Brian May's guitar work on that track is incredible.

What does Wired know about music anyway? Their magazine has turned into a collection of advertisements with a small number of very uninteresting articles.

I can think of hundreds of other albums that are worse than Chinese Democracy. For example - Dave Navarro's Trust No One is up there.

Gunny Highway: just a couple

Sorry, but "Metal Machine Music" is considered a classic among experimental music fans, and is pretty much a starting point for the extreme noise genre. Not saying I feel that way, but many noise heads do.

Chinese Democracy had some solid tracks on it and would have been well received if put out by anyone else. It also would have sold way better if it hadn't been leaked years before it finally came out and/or axl did some publicity besides threatening to sue people.

Classic or not that album is on my list. But hey music is all about personal taste. If people can enjoy MMM then that is a great example of the beauty of music. Im just not a fan.

/I have it

You would choose that over Soulja Boy? Okay. It's your list.

On a side note, I have never listened to "Cut the Crap." Is it really that awful?

I have never heard Solja Boy outside of that once song. It is terrible for sure but if I havent heard it I dont consider it.

Yea. Again that is just me but Joe disowned the album. I really like Earthquake Weather (and all of Joe's solo stuff) but Cut the Crap just sucks. Plus it is The Clash without The Clash. Dont bother listening.

Came to defend Chinese Democracy. Most disappointing? Maybe. Not a bad album, though. I've listened to it more than once, which is more than I can say for a lot of albums that I actually wanted to like.

bullshiat. It would've been considered a solid turd of Nu-Metal had it had been released by anyone other than Axl.

Well, not sure what you're referring to there, but Robin Gibb's rendition of "Oh Darling" almost redeems Sgt. Peppers.

Funny thing about that album. Since the Bee Gees were at the top of their game around that time, it was universally assumed that the Sgt Peppers soundtrack album would be huge. So much so that about a million or so counterfeit albums were pressed in anticipation.

When both movie and album tanked, both the legitimate and counterfeit albums were returned to the label, making the soundtrack the first album to be shipped platinum, and returned double platinum...

I think he's saying that the only justice would be for St. Anger to be on that list. I wouldn't replace the GNR album, I would put it next to though, because they're both shiat.

I know how a holocaust denier feels because I still love metallica but I refuse to believe that little time in their history never ever happened. total bullshiat of an album.

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2009-07-01 06:51:20 PM
Can't argue with a single one of those.

There's a bunch of late-80's eurotrash I'd toss in there...most of that whole genre needs black-holed.

I haven't listened to all of Chinese Democracy, but I do know that Shackler's Revenge is my least favorite song in Rock Band 2.

Nurglitch 2009-07-01 06:59:14 PM
I feel kind of weird about Death Magnetic because I was a huge Metallica fan in High School, bought and enjoyed the Load/B-Load albums, and didn't even bother with St. Anger. But I got Death Magnetic, threw it on the turn-table to listen, and turned it off about half-way through and listened to some klezmer. Maybe my tastes have changed.

what, are you trying to be reasonable or something? are you trying to suggest that maybe you just don't like them anymore instead of going off on a torrent of rage about why they suck and aren't the same band they used to be? pal, we don't play that BS around here. we chase off the 'logic thinkers' like you on websites like this

Transformer is a masterpiece. I will throw MMM on the turn table now and give it another chance. I dont anticipate my opinion changing but I will keep an open mind.
