Goddammit so much! Boozer and Okur are freaking wastes of time and money. Now we're going to lose Millsap, I bet. Farkin' Jazz.

/Great headline, subby.

How messed up is the financial situation of the NBA when a broken down Carlos Boozer, facing a free agency year in '10 that likely will contain LeBron, DWade, Bosh, Pierce, Dirk, and Amare to name but a few, is not opting out of a contract? My God, did he not get any offers? No one who matters (and presumably even some teams that don't) could come up with better than $12 mil a year for him?

Utah Information Minister 2009-07-01 06:24:54 PM
Boozer is a great player when he's healthy and he wants to be on the court.

I wish Malone would come out for training camp and biatch-slap him around.

I wish he had never come here. If we lose Millsap because he opted in, I'll be doubly pissed.

Just to thread jack here...
Dylan Olsen (new window) - a kid from Salt Lake whose family lives here - was drafted FIRST ROUND (new window) to the Blackhawks in the NHL draft the other night. And there has not been one word mentioned in either local newspaper or on any of the local tv stations as I guess it might get in the way of their fellating the Jazz.

If you like hockey so much maybe you should move to a city with a hockey team instead of a basketball team. Oh, and the "local kid makes good" story is a bit less reported in cities where the number of people that don't know the family outnumber the people that do.

You're being sarcastic, right? It's becoming increasingly difficult to tell around here.

The only reason basketball is more popular then hockey in Salt Lake is because it was direct competition with Larry Miller's interests and he did everything he could to 'kill' it. If he would have bought an NHL team instead of an NBA team nobody in Utah would even be talking about or care about the NBA.

Lots of Cavs fans need a waaaaahmbulance.

lacydog 2009-07-01 10:06:53 PM
As a Cavs fan, I thought the Boozer thing was a great example of why Paxson needed to be fired.

It wasn't enough that he gave an astounding 5 year/$15 million contract to a guy with no visible skills (Kevin Ollie). It wasn't just that he traded a first round pick for Jeri Welsch, and then traded Welsch for a 2nd round pick months later. This boneheaded move was about the last straw for me. He let Boozer out of a contract, simply because Boozer said he "promised" he'd only resign with the Cavs.

And then, shockingly enough, when Boozer gets an offer from the Jazz, he doesn't do a damn thing but whine to the press. Boozer is no saint, but the man Cleveland fans should have been upset with is Paxson. It's a good thing that both of them are gone.

/Cavs are supposedly going after Villanueva, and they might let Andy V go.
//This... intrigues me

I, as well will be deeply upset if we lose Paul. I want Okur to stay, But I cannot stand Boozer - he is next to worthless, he is on the same level as Ostertag IMO.

oldsbone [TotalFark] 2009-07-02 02:26:16 AM
I can see why he wants free agency in 2010. Everyone is clearing cap room for the big star lottery, but there's only so many of those guys to go around. Someone is going to have an immense amount of cap space and no one to sign with it.

Late to the party, but still worth mentioning... The kid was BORN in Salt Lake City, but he is FROM Calgary. He played in Alberta jr. hockey leagues and Canada national teams. Heck, his first hockey team was some Italian team. He's no Utahn, and it's not really a Utah news story.

Well sorta...I know the kid. He played peewee and bantam here. His dad "Coach Oly" (how played for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles) is my sons skating coach and still lives in Salt Lake. Yes he (the dad) is from Calgary, but Dylan only moved there 2 or 3 years ago to live with his aunt and play hockey. Im not even sure of his residency status. I know he played on Canada's U18 team, so Im assuming hes a CA residant somehow, but he IS from Salt Lake.
