palexc: So Gainey has Gionta/Gomez for about the same price as the Sedins. Not bad sir, not bad at all.

What are you smoking that you think Gionta/Gomez are as good as the Sedins?

Since lockout
Scott Gomez - Avg. 68 points/year, missed 16 games
Brian Gionta - Avg. 61.75 points/year, missed 21 games
Daniel Sedin - Avg. 77.75 points/year, missed 1 game
Henrik Sedin - Avg. 76 points/year, missed 0 games

Star Tribune Sources: Wild close to signing Havlat

According to multiple NHL sources, the Wild is close to signing dynamic free-agent winger Martin Havlat.

Havlat, 28, scored a career-high 77 points last season with Chicago in 81 games. It's unclear as to whether this gets done tonight or in the wee hours of the morning, but barring some sort of breakdown, I have been told by impeccable sources that Havlat has cut his list to one team - and that's Minnesota.

According to sources, the Wild also continues to be in negotiations with free-agent center Saku Koivu, although it's unclear how close that is. Because of the time in Finland, it could go into tomorrow.

The Wild and Havlat's agent have been working on this contract for hours.

Heatley didn't waive his no-movement. Refused to go to the Oilers.

This'll make him popular, yes?

His loss. Bastard.

So sorry to see Roli go. He is a class act and I love the guy.

I read somewhere that the Wings lost Samuelsson, but TSN isnt showing him as signing with anyone. Has anyone heard about that? I know a lot of Wings fans didn't care for Sammy, but I thought he was a helluva 3rd line winger.

Eh, the Oilers got a younger guy with a ring for relatively cheap.

Not younger by much, though.

palexc:

Montoya is too good to be playing in Phoenix. He will be a badass goaltender someday. The reason he didn't get moved up to the NHL sooner was because of Lundqvist.

Well, he is here, but I agree that he is very good. I was at his 2nd career NHL game and he made some killer stops against the Kings that night.

Bryz will be the #1 goalie come October, but he won't have to play 70 games this season with such a capable backup. If I'm the Coyotes GM, I'm trying to lock Montoya up to a long term deal as our future #1 as soon as the new ownership is made official.
