They're reporting Kubina (TOR) for Exelby (ATL) plus some extras.

That doesn't make sense. Trade a player that got 40 points for a player that got 7 points last season. There's got to be more to this deal than just that.

jekostas 2009-07-01 05:39:14 PM
Kubina to Atlanta, Exelby? to Toronto?

Gotta be more than that.

Habs sign Squid

epyonyx: They don't necessarily need a big name player, but just a solid back up RW. I am interested in Abdelkader (why did they not leave him in the Finals?). Leino seems solid. Anyone got a link to his stats for this past year?

Leino isn't signed, but from what I've read he wants to stay in Detroit.

Abdelkader had the flu in the finals and then fell victim to Babcock's refusal to change the lineup. I've heard in a few places he might go back down to the minors...which seems like a huge waste of talent.

Leino's an RFA and the Wings have made a qualifying offer

I hope Leino signs soon. Didn't know about Abdelkader. I hope he doesn't go back to the minors. Hopefully Babcock sees his potential. At least let him play like 20-30 games this season.

I want Frenchy Beauchemin and Wisniewski to both re-sign in Anaheim.

Komisarek goes to Toronto

Caeldan 2009-07-01 05:57:11 PM
Beauchemin's apparently getting offers >4M currently from some teams... so be interested to see where he goes.

Komisarek to Toronto it seems

Patterson 2009-07-01 05:58:39 PM
Judas Komisarek to the Leafs.

Expect booing. Lots of booing.

Brokenseas 2009-07-01 06:00:48 PM
Bad news for the Flames that the Bulin Wall signed for the Oilers. For whatever reason, they just can't beat that guy. If that continues into next season, it's going to be a dogfight in the west for the playoffs.

Good news for the Flames that they signed Boumeester though. Their defense on paper is scary-good, especially with Sutter coming in as coach. Phaneuf is going to have a monster career playing with his structured defense.

Chicago fans: don't worry so much about the salary cap. I'm sure their number crunchers have everything planned out so they don't have to get rid of Kane or Toews. (If I'm wrong, they are dumber than dumb though).

Bégin goes to Boston

swahnhennessy 2009-07-01 06:10:53 PM
Montreal fans are busy shoving Komi under a bus and Leafs fans suddenly have nothing but good things to say about the guy. It's like Bizarro Land. Gotta love homers in situations like these.

Caeldan 2009-07-01 06:28:32 PM
Sullivan stays in Nashville for a bit longer, 2 years at 3.75M per...

Pahlsson (3yr, 2.65M per) to Columbus to replace Malhotra who is currently out testing the waters.

NotEric 2009-07-01 06:31:59 PM
Cammalleri in Montreal. Must be because they already have booster seats installed in the team plane.

Kings have done...nothing so far. Again.

Sigh.

Yep. All that cap space to play with and they just haven't gotten anything done.

getting late and still no word on the heatley-to-the-oil debacle.

hoping bobby scuds decides to keep his prodigious goaltending skills in the 412...

NotEric 2009-07-01 06:44:36 PM
I hold out hope that Gaborik still hasn't signed. Michael Handzus better be on the phone with him right now telling him about the weather down here.

All the cap space in the world doesn't help you if no one wants to come.

Last update from TSN was that Heatley had the gall to say that he wasn't going to be pressured by Ottawa into a decision and that he felt like he had a gun to his head to make it, and so he was just going to take his time and make it in his own time.

Jul 1, 7:26PM Garon, Mathieu From Pittsburgh To Columbus $2.4M 2 years

Which raises the question...why?

legion_of_doo 2009-07-01 07:40:41 PM
Whatever Komi would have got to stay with the Habs, it would be too much for a player of his heritage & skill level.

/Whatever Komi signed for to play for Toronto, it would not be enough to be playing for Toronto.

Gaborik to the Rangers!!!!! Brashear signing almost forgiven now

NotEric 2009-07-01 08:29:19 PM
On the plus side, the Kings potentially have up to 6 chances to blow out LaBarbera in Phoenix...

Here's to hoping for Taylor Hall next draft!

jekostas 2009-07-01 08:32:52 PM
Gaborik to the Ranger, 5 years, 7.5M per year. I guess they're out of the running for Heatley

Why is it every time Slats looks like he's finally getting his head screwed on straight he goes and farks the Rangers up even more?

Oh, well, that's reaching a wee bit.

Flappyhead: Why is it every time Slats looks like he's finally getting his head screwed on straight he goes and farks the Rangers up even more?

At least he didn't trade Dubinsky/Callahan/Staal for Heatley

NotEric 2009-07-01 08:49:22 PM
If Gionta sits on Cammalleri's shoulders they might be tall enough to ride Splash Mountain next time they're in Anaheim.

nerrard 2009-07-01 08:51:35 PM
Did Gionta play on a line with Gomez in NJ? I can't remember, but it would make sense that's why Gainey went after them both...

swahnhennessy 2009-07-01 08:51:45 PM
OMG! The Rangers signed a high-priced player that has the potential to disappoint? Get out of here!

You'd think Sather would have learned by now. A few years ago I thought he had. Not that Gaborik is guaranteed to bust - the guy has more talent and skill than most of the league. But can he ever stay healthy long enough to put it all together? That contract assumes so.

jekostas 2009-07-01 08:54:58 PM
Where in the hell are the Canadiens getting all this money? Also, how drunk is Gainey?

5m/year for Gionta?

Quadraton [TotalFark] 2009-07-01 08:55:39 PM
$20 says Gaborik tears his groin by mid-December, and sits out for the remainder of the season.

On the bright side, it will be nice watching Gaborik play in the Eastern Conference. I barely get a chance to see him play.

NotEric 2009-07-01 09:01:32 PM
"He'll play 80 games and score 35 goals... total over the life of the contract"

Best quote I've seen about Gaborik so far.

I thought he had a chance to recover with the surgery he got, but the Rangers signing him means he's doomed.

FreakinB 2009-07-01 09:07:02 PM
On the one hand, I'm pissed because the Rangers got one of the two guys on the "Guys the Isles should have picked in the 2000 Draft instead of trading Luongo and taking The Rick" list, and they didn't even have to trade Staal, Dubinsky, etc. to do it.

On the other hand, dude's a risk.

Flappyhead 2009-07-01 09:09:16 PM

Understatement of the year.

Gomez is the reason Gionta scored 48 that year...

Chicago replaces Påhlsson with Madden. Didn't skip a beat, and Madden may be better for them than the Swede was, who disappointed.

Madden's getting up there in age. I agree he's still one of the best checking centres in the league but for how much longer?

spqr_ca [TotalFark] 2009-07-01 09:22:46 PM
Chicago is busy, they just grabbed Madden.

spqr_ca [TotalFark] 2009-07-01 09:24:29 PM

I was hoping Toronto would get him, but I'm not surprised he re-signed in Ottawa if they came close to the other offers.

palexc 2009-07-01 09:25:07 PM
$7.5 per for 5 years for an injury prone Gaborik? Goddamnit. Goddamnit so much. Though, this is an improvement for Slats. At least we didn't trade away Duby or Callahan. Still...goddamnit.

So who's rooting for the Montreal Devils next year?

epyonyx 2009-07-01 09:33:18 PM
I think Montreal and Chicago are looking to make a solid run for the Cup this next season. I could live with a Hawks-Habs Final.

/Go Wings!

palexc 2009-07-01 09:47:14 PM
So Gainey has Gionta/Gomez for about the same price as the Sedins. Not bad sir, not bad at all.

Uhhh...maybe if Bryzgalov gets hurt. I think LaBarbera falls to #3 in the Coyotes goalie depth chart behind Al Montoya.

As expected, Phoenix isn't doing much but I think they just need to resign Upshall and a couple others and it will be fine.

Both former Rangers goaltenders.

Montoya is too good to be playing in Phoenix. He will be a badass goaltender someday. The reason he didn't get moved up to the NHL sooner was because of Lundqvist.

NotEric 2009-07-01 09:57:21 PM
By potentially I mean if Phoenix decides to send their backup goalies at LA since the Kings are truly pathetic on the offensive end.
