Wow, they traded Habbybullen to Chicago (Yeah I know it's not spelled right, I dont care)

The other thing to keep in mind about the Sabres blueline is that it is very likely that the Chara-esque d-man Tyler Myers will earn a permanent spot out of camp, given his breakout season in Canadian juniors.

Clemmer's a panther now apparently, and erik cole re-signs with the Canes for a 2 year deal at 2.9 cap hit.

Terrible signing by Edmonton though.

No? Then a whole bunch of other Hawks are going to have to walk in order to get those two under the cap next year.

I don't think it's that terrible -- It's not like we snagged Spacek or anything. Again.

Care to explain? Money is not much more than Roloson, you get a better keeper, younger, and Stanley Cup winner....

That's far more likely than them sending Toews or Kane anywhere unless someone gives them a truly ridiculous offer to trade one of them.

Roloson can play a full season.
Khabibulin only started in 40 last year, playing 42 total - and missed about 16 games with injury (and 2 in the playoffs).

Khabibulin's on a multi-year deal as an over35 contract - meaning that they can't bury him in the AHL or hope he retires to clear the cap space if it's not working out. So best that Edmonton can hope for is that he goes out indefinitely with another groin or back injury - and stays out so they can get an LTI exception.

He's also regularly been a contract player - see this past season, and his Cup season with Tampa Bay. Every other year he's played he's been pretty darn mediocre.

I know we've got a lot of young guys in the farm system, but I'd like to see us sign somebody soon.

I think Murray is dipping the end of Sather's cigar in liquid LSD to try and extract some better Ranger players - ie, dubinsky/callahan/stall, instead of the crap Zherdev on offer. heatley will go to the Rangers in a heartbeat.

heater might still come to Edmonton, at this point I still want him, but the mofo better bring his 'A' game

Caeldan 2009-07-01 04:51:11 PM
Also, his final season with Phoenix.

whereisian: Don't know who this guy's source is, but...

"Heatley camp claims he will not move until he is the only elite scorer left. This is being treated like a FA situation, and ...'we believe Heatley will command the offers both he and OTT want.'..."

Link (new window)

So Heatley is still sniffing the glue.

He could always offer to carpool with some of the guys on the Sens' top lines...

I'm a little surprised at the Clemmensen deal, would've expected him to get a bit more from a team like Chicago. Huet's contract makes trading him impossible so they need a decent, reasonably priced backup

Wings aren't looking to win the Cup next year it seems. I wonder if they are looking to rebuild (what? not sure), re-organize the players (more likely), or they just have been uber-capped (and I am not seeing it). Their RW position is really going to weaken unless they sign someone. Not sure what Holland is thinking or has up his sleeve, but I wish I knew. Kind of disappointing me right now.

Don't the Wings have a few kids ready to break into the lineup this year? I mean they've got guys like Helm who have played more playoff than regular season games over 2 years...

Roli wore out big time last year - he is fine if he plays 60 games, but that long stretch at the end of last year exposed him.

This is true, but he is only 35, 4 years younger than Roli. Goalies can play alot longer than the out positions, so while a gamble, it is a good one.

He's also regularly been a contract player - see this past season, and his Cup season with Tampa Bay. Every other year he's played he's been pretty darn mediocre.

this is pure crap. 11 out of his 13 seasons save pct over 900, great GAA. He needs to show JDD in Edmonton how to play, so if he makes it 60 games, that is perfect.

The Wings weren't looking to make any big signings this year - Holland said as much. The Wings big signings were Zetterberg and Franzen.

The Wings haven't lost much - Hossa was a 1 year signing, Kopecky was dumb enough to take himself out of the lineup by instigating a stupid fight, and Conklin was a short-term backup after Hasek left. They'll easily contend next year, especially if Helm gets a full season in the bigs...and I'm interested in seeing if Leino can produce in a full season.

He hasn't started 60 games since 2002-2003... and only managed that 4 times in his career.

And it's not pure crap that's he a contract player - look at his final year in Phoenix compared to the rest of those. Look at his final year in Chicago, compared to the rest of those. His final year in TB is similar as well - (2001-2002 is the only time he had a comparable year to a contract year with a team)

I would still like them to sign at least one or two to reinforce the position.

On a side note Khabi is going to the Oilers. Are they going to make the playoffs?

They don't necessarily need a big name player, but just a solid back up RW. I am interested in Abdelkader (why did they not leave him in the Finals?). Leino seems solid. Anyone got a link to his stats for this past year?

I think we're on the same page. We don't need a star player, just an overall solid player who can hold his own.

Not interested in the Wings getting Havlat.

He seems like a good player when he's able to play & motivated.

I'd rather the younger players get a chance because they earned their shot... not because Marty is injured again.
