If you believe the posters in the playoff threads, he "screwed" Pittsburgh over in the offseason last year. Of course, if Hossa had stayed, they wouldn't have Guerin (or a few of the other movs they made), and probably wouldn't have won the Cup.

I didn't say it was logical, or smart.

Hossa indicated he was likely to come back to Pittsburgh, tying Shero's hands while other FA's were picked up in the initial 2 days of the FA period. Then he bolts for Detroit, and we're left to pick up scrap off the FA wire in the form of Fedotenko and Satan.

Fedotenko didn't have a great regular season, but turned it on in the playoffs. Satan was borderline worthless.

In the end, yeah, Pitt won the Cup. If Hossa left immediately, this "traitor" talk wouldn't be going on. It's only because he screwed the Pens from picking up other FAs thinking they were waiting on him to come back.

Wow. So if they can even somehow keep two of the Toews, Kane and Versteeg trio, they're going to be surrounded by schlups picked up from adult leagues in Ontario.

This really worries me what they're planning to do. I know Versteeg is older than Toews and Kane with Toews and Kane having a higher upside than Versteeg yet resigning Marty Havlat would have been cheaper that Hossa. I'm sure Havlat would have taken a pay reduction knowing that the Hawks would want to keep their young guys.

What the Hawks thinking? Maybe they want a Cup now with someone who has SCF experience? It doesn't make sense to sign such a long contract.

Oh shiat: Twitter DarrenDreger: Hossa's deal heavily front loaded. 53 mil for the first 7 years of the 12 yr deal. TSN

Talk to Vancouver about that. I think they're happy.

That's what I thought, but I figure I'd at least check.

Would someone please sign Mary-Ann Gaborik so our long nightmare can be over?

You at least have a scorer. Granted, he doesn't want to be there, but jeese, the Wild 99% chance will not be able to re-sign their only major superstar that has over 25 goals in one year.

The Wild are losing a large portion of their goal scoring, and their only 'true' goal scorer on the team. Granted, Mikko may be there in a year or two, but he still isn't as good as Gaborik.

Hossa, 12 years in Chicago, 60 million, but front-loaded at 53 million over the first seven. Sedin twins stay in Vancouver for 5 years at 6.1/year on average. Those are the biggest splashes so far.

I know we've got a lot of young guys in the farm system, but I'd like to see us sign somebody soon.

Killer Cars: IMDWalrus: I promise not to pull an Idiot Penguins Fan and call him a traitor, though. Hossa seemed like a nice guy, and he definitely helped in the regular season.

Anyone with a half a brain thought the Red Wings would have a better shot to win the Stanley coming in to last season. Plus, it wasn't like Hossa grew up in the Pens organization...he was a hired (or traded) gun for them as well.

I get the "HAHA" part to his face, that's natural. The "traitor" part? Hell no. What the hell did he owe to the Penguins?

/not a Wings or Pens fan

Keep in mind that when he was in Pittsburgh, the fan base worshiped him. I'm a huge Pens fan, and I was one of the worshipers.

Last year I was at Game 2 in Detroit. After the game (another shutout), along with a bunch of borderline suicidal Pens fans, I proceeded to get tanked in a bar at the hotel we were staying in. We spent a vast majority of the evening chanting "HOSSA!" according to the bartender. Nothing about Fleury, Crosby, Malkin, etc. Just Marian farking Hossa.

What other rental player can you think of that got that kind of love that quickly, and really from an entire fanbase? I think that might explain some of the hurt you constantly hear about.

Well, that and he strung Shero along post July 1 until he headed for Detroit. Saying that they were a better bet to win the Cup (which they were at the time) also tends to offend a fanbase to the extreme.

\Wished for his untimely demise this season
\\Hope he eventually wins one in Chicago
\\\Seems like a classy guy to me

Don't know who this guy's source is, but...

"Heatley camp claims he will not move until he is the only elite scorer left. This is being treated like a FA situation, and ...'we believe Heatley will command the offers both he and OTT want.'..."

So Heatley is still sniffing the glue.

If he can't handle the chants how will he handle boos if/when he starts sucking here in Chicago? We're not really nice when it comes to bad players. I think that's mostly Cub fans though because we all know no Cub fan truly understands sports, or that the most beloved thing the Cubs had was a life long Cards fan, and got insanely drunk in the White Sox booth.
