Yeah, running into a Tank in the sewers is a real pain.

/wait, wrong game to reference

But post-apocalyptic worthy.

CygnusDarius: Try hospitals and grocery stores.

Oh yea, sure, head on over to Cornucopia and pick up a few items. Maybe there'll be a few med items in the back.

The only time I had to actually use my gas mask was to clean out the six month old milk in my fridge when I got back...

/I had two weeks to get everything done that everyone had two months to do.
//I forgot I had three half empty jugs in the fridge... surprised it wasn't sentient

Vangor: Sweet evil jesus, after seeing the picture shudders ran down my spine. I imagine a time lost but seemingly empty suburb which a man finds himself in, only to stumble upon a few children alone in a house watching a rather garbled station continuously skipping and rewinding to play five seconds of a cartoon's opening melody. The foolish protagonist calls out to the children, who slowly turn to regard him in the nearby entrance, all wearing some variation of this mask to cover gaunt, unnatural features such as blank eyes and sharpened teeth, maws caked in dried human blood.

Scary ass mask.

Let me know when your novel length version comes out. I would buy it.

Hmmm, it would seem that some websites are getting wise to the old "use Firefox to find the source code for the pic and then hotlink it" trick... the "View source code" button was greyed out for some of the more interesting pics I found.

Much like people nowadays being astounded that the original walkman didn't have a 'shuffle' button - or that the other half of the music's on the other side of the tape, there's a frame of reference missing here.

My Mom and Dad are British (as am I); during WWII kids rightly thought gasmasks were scary as fsck and wouldn't put them on. Someone, somewhere thought that if you made them look like Mickey Mouse, it'd be more agreeable to the kids and they'd be more likely to wear them during an attack.

The more you know.

An image of Annete Funicello comes to mind; nude, save this mask, oven mitts and a pair of cowboy boots...

I'll be in my bunk.

Pretty much this - it's no different than selling band-aids with the kids' fave cartoon characters on it; it's just the particular implement was a little more scary than something we have to deal with now for the most part.

try Tools - Page Info - Media

there's a nice list there of each sound, graphic and movie on the page. along with the full url and a preview window of sorts. gets you around that stupid spaceball.gif thing too.
