Gelson focused on Smith's checkered driving record in rejecting Hextall's request to impose a fine but not jail time. She cited court filings that showed that Smith had 28 points on his license in 2005 that included four speeding tickets.

My God

Hey if he can't get 'em on the court he's gotta pick up his scoring average SOMEwhere. PPG gets you PAID!

Imagine how much his PPG would be if he drove a hybrid!

It's been a while since I looked, but I am pretty sure 10 points here in Tennessee means a lost license. I was at 7 points once and was driving like grandma for months.

67 in a 35 and blowing through a stop sign? Gee, who saw THAT one coming?

Should have his license taken away for life and wear an ankle bracelet so that if he even gets behind the wheel of an arcade game, someone standing by can pistol whip him.

F*cking idiots should not be allowed to f*cking drive.

It's 12, so you had more points than you thought... still, 28?! That's absurd. Sick of athletes getting light sentences.

Well I'm glad to see that the legal system doesn't treat the rich & famous differently that regular people.

You mean like this guy?

"Richard Strock was arrested for drunken driving 18 times before he killed anyone.

In his 19th case, his 63-year-old ex-wife was thrown into the windshield and died."

He just now hit jail, fyi.

Genius Subby, Genius!

Great headline subby. Although personally I feel like Stallworth is very remorseful for what happened and hes been pretty classy about the whole thing, so i feel bad that he has become the focus of our disdain for celebrities or athletes getting off of jail time. But it is the reality of the situation.

Smells like... a new cliche

i feel bad for JR Smith and big name athletes like him. not too bad, since they're millionaires.. but their bad decisions are thrust under a microscope. thats the price they pay for all the money they make.

FTFA: Prosecutor Richard Kelly said Tuesday the data recorder in Smith's vehicle showed he was driving 67 miles per hour

Data recorder? WTF!? What cars come with them now? Is this standard, pimped, or was it fitted as a result of some previous convictions?

Lakewood NJ! Whooo! I'm from Lakewood. (Hometown pride isn't one of our specialties, we do have Mark Ecko for what its worth)

NJ has this little scam going on where you can take (pay for) classes that will remove points off of your license. That, and I imagine some of those points were provisional points new drivers get, probably allowed to him never have too many points at one time to lose his license.

Also, I have no idea how it works between states. I guess some of those points are NJ, some are probably Colorado.
