GimpyNip: Wise_Guy: That's hardly the same as leading by 9 runs in the 7th inning.

Or by 3 games in the ALCS! ;p

Dammit.

Chemical_Turk: Don't look now but the Rays have won 7 in a row.

Here come the RAYS!!!!

sigh
and here come the Rays "fans"

Think I've seen more "diehards" on todays baseball posts than I've seen all year in all posts combined.

*licks fingers tips, touches sizzling hot nipples*

And yes, that game completely sucked... I suppose the O's have had it out for the Red Sox every since that 6-run, ninth inning, walk-off catastrophe known by Red Sox fans as the "Mother's Day Miracle".

I've always known that game as the "Mother's Day Massacre".

That's "three games, eight and a half innings" to you.

/there's always one.

I was there! : D

/with an Orioles fan, hahahaha
//who talked shiat about Pedroia and Youkilis (Pedroia was Mendoza for the first 3 months of that year, and Youkilis had a rare error, I think.)

Quick turnaround today, luckily, with a 1:30 game. Then they get to play some west coast teams at home. I like that the Red Sox have a getaway game before making the "arduous" trip back to Boston from Baltimore.

Hey, there is no such thing as a bandwagon O's fan. If you like them now, you're on at below ground level.

Any trip that involves the NJTP and cross bronx expy is arduous. Oh wait they're flying...does Logan look arduous today? Does anyone have a view of Logan today?

H31N0US: Bee Roo Ga Ho Shee: *tips hat*

I am guilty of saying "Yankees beat themselves", but I haven't used that line since I got over the denial phase in Oct 2004, when I realized that no, the Red Sox beat the Yankees against impossible odds, and deserved all the credit in the world for it.

Since then, I said I would not use that cop out line again, either when my favorite team got beat or I got beat at something personally.

Try this phrase on for size then: "they found a way to lose". Said that MANY times in the 80s watching the Braves. I also realized that I have been saying that much more lately as well.

Let's be fair, who isn't hungover on Mother's Day?

I'm usually hungover the day after Mother's Day

Bee Roo Ga Ho Shee: GimpyNip: Despite the loss, it was an exciting game. It isn't often you see a team blow a 9 or 10 run lead. Most people I know missed it, though. They thought that the game would be called and even if it didn't the lead was safe enough to sleep on. It was like the Mother's Day Miracle...except with the O's winning.

My friend was at Fenway for that game... get this: he left in the bottom of the 8th inning. Because he was too farkin' hungover. On Mother's Day.

What a dipshiat.

Sounds like a Derek Lowe outing - except he lasted til the 8th.

Dr.Knockboots: Well, it gave the city of Baltimore something to be excited about for a night.
It's too bad the O's have only been to the playoffs 3 times in the last 25years.. their fans seem like decent folks.

My boy Marty's an O's fan, but he's really quiet about it because there's, well, no reason to be lately. Pretty decent bunch of folks is right. And the die hards are FANS. They know this game.

O's are up 5-1 going into the bottom of the 6th... It's their turn to blow the game...

deadsanta: /knew we were jinxed as soon as idjit commentators started droning on about "dominating the Orioles".

I had to put the game on mute after they came back from the rain delay. All they could talk about was dominating the Orioles, and stealing the W from Smoltz.

They did.

Why do managers insist on taking out pitchers in the 9th when they have given up 1 hit in the last 4 innings?

I am so farking pissed right now no one is getting prescriptions until the game is over.

Back at you, O's.

(but you have to be happy with your rookie starter. he was cruising. seriously)

mjones73 2009-07-01 04:58:54 PM
Yeah he was cruising, let's pull him out with 3 outs to go, brilliant move...

I was semi-watching at the gym, so i didn't see the 8th. I did watch him make short work of the sox for a few of the innings before that. did he look like he was tiring at the end or was he just a victim of the pitch count/rookie arm-save maneuver?

Toonz - Stats say Bergesen threw 103 pitches in 8 innings, so it was probably the pitch count.

Isnt that what happened in the Mothers Day Miracle/Massacre? I seem to remember a game where a young O's pitcher was dominating the Sox but they pulled him in the 9th and the Sox came back. I'll have to look that one up...
