This is not a good week to be 50, or president of a south American country.

The week when you have advance notice of the impending coup and have time to embezzle like crazy and flee to France.

Mark my words! Some asshat is going to say that all these coup's and government problems are because Obama didnt show enough involvement in Iran, so other countries are going to spiral out of control because we are not policing the world.

MARK THEM!

By international accounts Honduras has(d) one of the most fair and free elections in the Western Hemisphere. This really is a tragedy for basic human rights.

Obviously Zombie Reagan's been up to his old tricks.

"Mr Zelaya (former Honduran President) said soldiers rousted him out of bed, beat his bodyguards and arrested him in his pyjamas."

Mr. Zelaya was later quoted as saying: "How they got into my pymamas I'll never know."

Quick, somebody sell some weapons to Islamic fundamentalists and sponsor some death squads! I'm sure there're some nuns that need to meet Jesus.

That's as valid a remark as the other people claiming the Iranians are only striving for political freedom because they've been so inspired by Obama's rise to glory in America.

No matter who his allies or friends are, this is a democratically elected President being overthrown by the military. He is the valid and democratically elected leader till 2010 IF he refused to step down THEN military action could be called for.

This is exactly when you the West needs to step up and show leadership, condemn this abuse. Military juntas are never a good thing.

Looks like he wanted to have the question of extending the presidential terms to a referendum vote. Congress didn't like the idea, the army wasn't going along with it, so he fired the General. He wanted to go through the referendum anyways and insisted it would be non-binding. Military arrests him, kicks him out of the country. They beat up the Venezuelan ambassador, there's chaos on the streets, the people are protesting / rioting. That's where it stands at the moment.

don't forget that we're raising taxes that will hobble our economic recovery, while at the same time our opponents are gearing up to just crush what's left of our economy.

I give it 5-6 years before the country will really be ready to put a corporate statist government into power.

The additional information was that he was trying to run an election despite the objections of the legislature and supreme court and he fired military officials when they refused to help him run the election.

/like someone else said, hard to find much sympathy for either side, but when you piss off the army like the president did, he's lucky he didn't get worse
