I'm sure this will end well

On the bright side, it's not exactly a "hostage crisis" this time around. It's just an arrest...

...by the same people that held the hostages last time.

Maybe we should call it a "hostage crisis with the legitimacy of government"?

Iranian Nationals. Still is quite frowned upon by the international community.

My guess this is the first step is booting Britain from Iran.

I think if/when they actually seize the embassy then they'll have war on their hands. This, not so much....

I was sort of thinking the same thing. In American embassies, my understanding is that, on the embassy grounds, you are on America soil. Period. This means that any sort of intrusion, certainly up to and including arresting anyone there, could almost be considered an invasion.

I don't know if other countries like say, England, take that same approach. But Iran is definitely provoking a serious issue.

WWIII is going to take place (or at least start) in the middle east. And North Korea is going to take a few popshots just so they don't feel left out.

I was a little kid in 1979. I was so scared by the nightly news. All the adults were so tense about the hostage situation. Really bad times.

well, i wouldn't want to be a Marine guard at the US Embassy right about now.

They'll probably be ordered not to fire in defense. Or have their ammunition taken away.

oops. sorry. drinking last night, just woke up this morning. lethal combination.

I think these people were arrested on the way to the embassy, so they may be Iranians who work there (but they could be Brits). They were not arrested at the embassy though.

Wouldn't it be nice to see another country just pop a nuke on Tehran? That would get the US off the whipping post, and give the Ayatollahs something new to worry about.

So not exactly an act of war, but a very provocative act. I'm sure "confessons" of spying for the UK and fomenting civil war will follow.
Not a lot of variety in the ol' dictator shuffle.

I was an antiterrorist that year,
I felt bertayed by my own commander in chief.
We had a no hostage policy.
That meant we do not accept hostages as barganing chips.
If someone puts a gun to your owm mother's head and demands your weapon, shoot them. Do not bargan with them. If your mother dies, then you have sent a clear message to the next not yet dead terrorist.
But Nooooooooooooooooo.
We gave them a leash.
Not a noose.
