the %day% %musical genere-and-or-preference% meme has been taken. Tried before with "grungecall" I'll be damned if those old farts will do anybetter. Find another way to present your submissions, plagermitter

The Dirty Mac (John Lennon's one-off supergroup with Clapton, Mitch Mitchell and Keef) did great during this show... and it also featured the only footage of Tony Iommi as the guitarist of Jethro Tull

But the reason that it remained unreleased all these years? The Who blew EVERYONE out of the water. Granted, the Stones hadn't been on the road in a while and didn't start playing till the wee hours of the morning... but the Who's performance this night is one of the best in the history of rock.

A Quick One (While He's Away)

Also, that the Stones went on last, early in the morning & the day-slash-drugs took their toll. They were not on their best, but still fantastic compared to the shiat we see today

Very nice, but the version on "Get Your Ya-Yas Out" blows it out of the water.

they don't even let the poor guy have a guitar?
sucks to be you Brian.

Sadly, Jones at this time had been relegated to doing basically nothing. His demons had taken over.

One of my favs. I really love the stretch of albums around this time period - so much great stuff. I will always love the legend of the Rolling Stones + all the great tunes.

/To get my fair share of abuse. . .

That was great, subby.

Brought back many good memories.

Tony Iommi with Jethro Tull...

nickxero 2009-06-27 07:54:31 PM
According to Bill Wyman, they did a few other songs that have never been seen/heard... including a version of "Sympathy" with Brian Jones on guitar.

sigh.

henryhill 2009-06-27 08:22:59 PM
"Salt of the Earth", that ends this show is fantastic.

Word!

I submitted that to Saturday Stones a few weeks ago, but got redlighted

nickxero: But the reason that it remained unreleased all these years?

Um, it's been out on video and CD for over a decade.

/you're correct about the Who performance (which was for years the only thing available).

I know, I didn't word that properly I suppose. The reason that it WAS unreleased until the late 90s.... was the the Who destroyed. :)

But that was for Grunge. This is real music.

nickxero a quick one

The sound of Pete's guitar on that tune; that IS rock & roll. I love that "amp pushed to just before it gets fuzzy/sloppy" sound.
Just like on "Live At Leeds" oooh! I dig that sound.

rillettes 2009-06-28 08:36:28 AM
Who's playing bass here? Whoever it is was relegated off to the side.

dstanley 2009-06-28 08:49:35 AM
Bill Wyman.

Excellent clip.

I can't hear that song without thinking of Rushmore (new window).
