That's part of it, but the wifi-bearing Predator drones John McCain got his old friends in the military to deploy are doing more. It's a good thing we have at least ONE politician who isn't afraid to do what's right. Real power in our government comes from an understanding of what to do and how to do it, which Obama had better learn if he wants to survive 2012.

This is a cool picture from the comments, though. Stratellite/LTA phone tower.

Interesting that the Stratellite's hover level is mentioned in Wikipedia to be about 13 miles up (new window)-- which is coincidentally about the max altitude limit of typical F5 fighters of (70K) feet.

I've seen comments that the 'new' Iranian Saeqeh is just a glorified F5.

I hope you're trolling -- but -- Wifi predator drones would not work to help out the average population unless an Iranian sat on the predator with their computer. I think the limit of transmission of Wifi 802.11x is like 50 meters, (new window) and even if it was 10 miles, it still wouldn't help unless it circled Tehran right above the buildings or something.

I'll continue talking to myself....

It suddenly occurred to me (duh) that predators wouldn't be necessary. Amplified wifi antennas in the Capsian sea on naval ships would probably be more successful/stable, or from a well-powered Stratellite...kind of like these guys--- Record Set at DefCon WiFi Shootout (new window)

Sadly the Caspian is verboten to vessels of non-bordering countries, I think, so the only other way is to beam wifi from Iraqi borders -- that's a lot of hundreds of miles to Tehran.

Beaming wifi via predators would be wobbly, I think, and a circling Predator would have to have a swiveling antenna with a lot of power for amplification for everyone's home computer, so unless Predators are flying directly overhead in Iranian airspace, I don't think it would be all that efficient -- but the signal processing Farkers can correct me, because I'm out of my league when it comes to modern antenna equipment.

/plus, there's that pesky fact that it's probably easy to jam 5GHz from a high rise

Might be somewhat depressing to be an Iranian and find out all you can get is CrazyFundieTube.

Also, I'm not sure we need to make the Iranian mullahs look any worse. People there aren't stupid. Even if they do have their socially conservative mores, I'm sure they don't have a hard time comprehending life would be easier without all the ridiculous moral police state nonsense.

What are we going to do, start a nuclear war? We're not going to do anything to them right up until they get the bomb, because it's tantamount to geopolitical suicide.

It's going to have to be paid for in blood by Iranians. Don't care how they get it done.

That's about right, a reworked F-5 with twin tails, sort of a poor-mans YF-17 Cobra with somewhat less capability according to most estimates.

All together a fairly decent fighter by late 70's early '80's technological standards. If you could integrate AA-11's you'd have a decent air-defense capability at a modest price.

Not to mention the face that Predators would be a fairly easy kill for any decent SAM or AAA platform.

Although I know the niche you've carved out for yourself around here, I hope there is an element of non-satire in your post.

It is odd to me that the Iran threads have faded away as the regime has become more successful in squashing resistance. Apparently our collective attention span is too short--especially since we no longer have a fellate-worthy thread to rally around any more.

I know I'm still keeping tabs on the situation as news becomes available, but as a general lurker, there's not a whole lot to talk about with the trickle of information that is all we seem to get out of Iran the last few days.

We haven't forgotten, but there's little we can do to help with endless threads pull of the same five arguments going back and forth.

OG has been pretty much just retweeting stuff, and retweeted a lot that was proven wrong. IB, on the other hand, is citing a media source who may actually have access to information and had a better track record in general. Gotta give IB the edge here. Sad but I do think it is likely PK has been arrested. And the posts about ways to fight the government made him a serious target for the thugs.
