This is having massive cojones to actually make a speech like that.

BiblioTech [TotalFark] 2009-06-26 11:45:38 PM
Did it look like many walked out? There seemed to be a lot of chairs empty and he was telling people to sit down. Of course it could be like our Congress where they show the person giving the speech and you don't realize it is to a nearly empty room.

ninjakirby [TotalFark] 2009-06-26 11:46:29 PM
What a badass. +1

ninjakirby [TotalFark] 2009-06-26 11:48:06 PM
"Mr Mousavi, those who stand against you can't even manage a bakery"

I repeat: What A Badass!

BiblioTech [TotalFark] 2009-06-26 11:49:17 PM
We REALLY need to get our resident Farsi speakers in here to tell us if this translation is legit.

idiomagic 2009-06-26 11:53:27 PM
Just emailed the video to CNN.com. No pedophile pop stars, so it probably won't air, but it's worth the try.

I think Alikhani just one at least one internets. I've got a mad mullah crush on right now.

They were leaving. And the screaming.

"This is madness!"

"This is politics!"

Bingo, this. Some of the names matched up relatively close in time.

Very, very interesting video. Go Alikhani

"Mr. Mousavi, those who stand against you can't even manage a bakery." OMG. I can't believe he said that. Any word on whether he has since "disappeared" from public view? If this is legit, the media HAS to get this out to show that the Iranian government is NOT going lockstep with Ahmadinajad. Maybe more uninterested folks would take notice.

idiomagic, good job getting this to CNN. Whether or not anyone will look at it, who knows. Do you think TDS might be interested because of the part about how they can't even manage a bakery?

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2009-06-27 12:03:32 AM
That. Was. AWESOME.

Why does no one except Dennis Kucinich give speeches like that in America?

I'm going to get the video to /b/ and ask them to disseminate it. It needs to be seen.

I know I saw a tweet come through #iranelection with reaction so word is getting out there.

Mentat [TotalFark] 2009-06-27 12:10:05 AM
These protests really have shaken the Islamic Republic to its very core. It's going to be very interesting seeing how all of this will play out.

You did good greenies.

Because its political suicide. (Well, actual suicide in this case)

What was the date of his speech?

FredaDeStilleto: What was the date of his speech?

Today. It said 88 because of their wacky calendar and all, but that was definitely today. Which is Saturday there.

Says 26-3-88 SAT on the time stamp. Anyone know how it works in the Iranian calendar?

LOL, OK I didn't want a darn dissertation on it. Are we in month three or four (Tir) cause I'm pulling up a calendar site (new window) that says Tir which is listed as 4th on the wikipedia site. It would make sense because he was talking about the 22nd of Khordad in the tape which this site has listed as the previous month.

/not discounting his bravery. I'm wondering if he's even alive as we speak after that speech.

All I can find is that his full name is Hajsheikh Alikhani and he's a member of the Parliament. Will keep digging.

Maybe because it started in Fark and came back this way??? Darn it, I thought we had a shot at it. Well, we can always continue the discussion in TF.

Well, even though the thread is red, the video is going out everywhere. It's all over twitter, and /b/ is doing a stellar job of posting it all over the place. So there's that, at least.

BiblioTech [TotalFark] 2009-06-27 12:41:56 AM
Yep, greenlights are not the important thing. I've seen iranelection tweets asking Farsi speakers to comfirm.

I'm wondering what the reaction would be if he said that TODAY. Arrested on the spot or maybe have more support given the break that has occurred in Parliament.

That's what Anon says, and y'know? In this, I trust them. I'm damned proud they're fighting for the forces of good, and really making a difference.

I send things every day to CNN and every other news source I can find, and...nothing. I send stuff to /b/ and ten minutes later it's all over the internet. Hooray for /b/!

I started a disinformation thread on whyweprotest, and I've been seeing the results on twitter. Link is here, if you're interested.

I had the same expression he did as I watched it. I hope he doesn't pay for his courage with his life. Balls of titanium, at least.

If the subtitles are correct, that man has some ginormous brass testicles clagging around under his dress.

That's amazing. May be the source of the fight we heard rumors about in the Parliament building.

StandsWithAFist 2009-06-27 11:32:49 AM
Can anyone confirm the subtitles are the correct translation? Because if so, I'm amazed that guy could walk away from the podium without tripping over those giant brass balls...

/keeps fingers crossed translation is accurate

If its what he said, wow.

I sadly see none of our leaders here in the U.S. ever being this passionate about an injustice on our home soil. Not even the great "savior" Obama, in his brief and unspectacular time in office.
