Good statement by the Prez, if a little late.

"Me apologize? Pfft! Hey Ahamadinijad, you need to apologize to your people, then we'll talk."

I like it.

WTF do people equate bravery with ox-like stupidity?

A measured response is what this situation needed. Banging a pot over things as they happened was what the Iranian regime wanted. Obama screwed them over by not giving them something to point to.

Dadgummit, Obama! Why didn't you do this when it would've been counterproductive and politically damaging?!

Gotta love those true Real Americans, the Republicans.

They get mad when Obama does something right, but screamed out in orgasmic bliss whenever Dubya would fark the puppy, international-diplomacy speaking, of course.

Obama has handled the situation masterfully. The fact he used a shared stage with Chancellor Merkel is symbolic of the manner the US is , finally, crafting foreign policy; we're no longer acting like a vigilante but as a team player.

Please. Your ilk wouldn't be happy with anything he did, unless it was launch half a dozen nukes over there the minute things got slightly noteworthy.

Then you would have been upset because Iran wasn't bombed ENOUGH, if there were still people alive. Just admit it. You won't be happy with anything until at least 2016, and maybe not even then.

Nice to see a response that is not sycophantic to the Iranians. I think their government has proved at this point that there was good reason to act like they were shiate-heads for all these years. I just hope their people are able to take control of the government. I hear the #2 ayatollah may be trying to get rid of Khamenai asn throw a new election. Here is hoping.

/the above is not an indictment of the current administrations diplomacy attempts.
//It is an acknowledgment that Iran's government is close to the picture the previous administrations painted.

Unfortunately after eight years of ham-fisted foreign policy, its what many people have come to expect from our leadership.

Obama loses! And after he spent so much effort trying not to be sucked in. Ahmadinejad and a macho American public that doesn't understand anything but fights both pressured him and he caved. HE CAVED. Obama caved from pressure from a bunch of testosterone wonks and the biggest loser in the Middle East. So much for the resolve to stay above it all. What happened, Mr. President? Does nobody see the posters in this thread congratulating him for losing the war of willpower and moral superiority? What does a missile defense system or predator drone fleet matter if the CoC folds under mild baiting and the bleating of mass media who want a showdown to sell ads? Sun Tzu would be displeased, I think.

Or are "Oh snap!", "You got told", and "Landshark!" Fark memes too?

I also hear sticking your thumb up and saying, "Aaaaaaayyyyy" is a meme made popular by Fark.

The fact that he took a little while means he's taking it darned seriously. If it was a 24-hour turn around cowboy whooping yell it would've been riddled with disingenuous posturing.

Dang neo-cons go well out of their way to suck the joy out of existence.

I didn't really equate the President's response to 'suck it'.

Just once I'd like to see/hear a response that just really goes off. Like "Ahmadinejad, you ignorant bastard son of a camel.... (with much more juicy insults to follow)" Later when pressed for an apology the Pres can respond with "calling you an ignorant bastard son of a camel was unfair to camels everywhere and for that I apologize."

.(this)
And that is why we had to wait. Iran's posturing that the U.S. is "meddling" had to seem like the empty rhetoric it is. If we sent aid or drones (as McCain called for) we would be acting as a police force and we would be viewed as such. Now that the clerics are getting involved (though I suspect it's just for show and swagger) other Islamic nations will get in there and hopefully resolve the issue themselves.

Heh. Yeah, the group that up until a couple of weeks ago still wanted us to "bomb bomb Iran" and turn Tehran into a glass parking lot is suddenly "concerned" about the Iranian people.
