It always bothered me that Social Distortion's big break out single thing directly lifted from The Kids Aren't Alright and no one anywhere seemed to notice. Ears, people.

What the hell did social d ever do to anyone to attract all this hate?

Jeez give Mike some credit, he walked the walk.

OK not a life changing kinda band, but some good songs and always high energy shows, always a respect for giving the audience what they wanted.

Save your hate for the rich farkers who phone it in in stadiums.

I'm 40 and have always thought Social Distortion was highly overrated. I can't stand that guy's voice, either. His solo album of country covers made me want to rip my ears off and stick them in the holes.

Social D is awesome. Their fans are the most friendly people I've ever seen at a concert. Sweaty maybe, but friendly.

sickb0y 2009-06-27 12:57:41 AM
Well, its basically the Mike Ness band and has been since Dennis passed away, but the last album was fantastic, they are just good music, and Mike is all about the fans. Went to opening night HoB Sunset a couple years ago they played Mommy's Little Monster beginning to end.

And you know what if they are attracting more fans at the asshole end of the spectrum at this late date in their careers, so be it, they deserve some success.

68% of the date rapes in Plano usually start out with "Can I have a ride in your BMW?"

Definitely enjoy Social D. "Punk rock for dumb frat guys"? I hardly meet people that have heard of Social D let alone ever ran into a frat guy that listens to them. Don't see how they would be overrated either. Like one poster said, not life changing music, but it's damn good for what it is.

1945 was a good album, but lately all Mike Ness seems to do is write about how cool things were when he was young and how everything sucks now.

Usually, the term "legendary" relates to an artist that everyone has heard about and respects for his/her stratospheric talent, like Michael Jackson. I wouldn't use that word so liberally. Social Distortion may have been pioneering, leaders and original, but I wouldn't call them legendary.

I liked SD back in their "Punk" days, but once Mike Ness started going all pseudo-Rockabilly, the interest faded. Now, I like Rockabilly, but the thing was, the drumming on all those albums was sooo repetitive and dull (and high in the mix) eventually it's all you can hear. Go on, put on Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell and tell me the drumming doesn't drive you up the farking wall.

Oh yeah, Buck 65 is well worth checking out. I'd suggest starting with Talkin' Honkey Blues.

That wasn't too good of an album. And yeah, the drumming on that one and also the Self-Titled album was pretty dull. However, I did enjoy "Bad Luck" and "Cold Feelings".

The best Social D imho is "Live at the Roxy". Bonus: Chuck Biscuits on the drums!

Live at the Roxy is definitely their best, as their songs sound way better live than on record generally. I really like Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, I thought it was the perfect blend of their old sound with their newer direction, and some of the best songwriting they ever did. I never noticed the drums being bad, but I used to listen to NOFX when I was a kid so don't talk to me about repetitive drumming, or I'll horse-gallop over to you and set you straight.

SxDx has been my favorite band since I saw them play in 1981 at Fairmont Hall in San Diego.

The cover was only $4 and the Playpen/Mainliner single has just come out.

Pandar 2009-06-28 12:53:06 PM
Social D hate? Really? That's pretty stupid. Social D is the second best SoCal punk band ever. The first is obviously Bad Religion, but digression aside, if you hate Social D, then you have absolutely no taste.
