I read this article this morning, and I'm 100% convinced that this is just another shiatty NME exaggeration. His quotes sound like he was talking hypotheticals, not that those things are actually going to happen.

Gotta agree, the quotes do not support the conclusion at all.

I just hope they come back to Montreal doing the old stuff one more time. I got stuck at work and missed about half of the last show.

The Meat Puppets and Dinosaur Jr. reunions resulted in 4 great albums so far, but I'm not holding out too much hope for a Pixies album, let alone a good one.

As someone who has shelled out retarded amounts of money over the years on all things Pixies, including imports, bootlegs, etc... I gotta say that this is a bad idea. The Pixies were kind of a fluke. It was pretty much a "first band" for all of them. They were stupid kids who caught lightning in a bottle. I caught 'em twice on their reunion tour and I'm glad I got to see 'em and everything, but they need hang it up. That ship has sailed.

gotta say, 'this.'
i saw them while i was attending ucsd after doolittle was released. circa, 1988 or so.
caught them at coachella after their reunion and a few years after in irvine.
they're omnipresent on my mp3 player, but their live act really has no appeal. there is no magic beyond nostalgia (i'm not a sentimental or nostalgic person).

Backing up DerekSD, THIS.

I have trouble even listening to their old stuff ever since I saw the documentary on their reunion tour loudQUIETloud. I would warn other fans away from that movie. Unless of course you want to see your heroes basically all saying "We still hate each other but we needed money so we're reuniting."
Seeing them on the reunion tour was great, seeing what went on behind the scenes was just sad.

It's not about "being cool;" you're just thinking of the wrong band, or something. I don't recall the Pixies' musicianship ever called into question before. Sure, they're no virtuosos, but they have always played competently.

Nobody's questioning your "coolness," but it's obvious that you aren't at all familiar with the band you're insulting.

I was going to launch a tirade but then I rememberd how happy I was to see them playing what I like. The problem with a comeback is that you ultimately have to get acquainted with new material when really all you want to hear is Gigantic. They're taking a risk by attempting to be good when they've already been great.

Maybe I'm wrong - Dabaser, right? I remember seeing a thing on grunge or whatever where they interviewed the bass player for the pixies and she alluded to her inability to play technical stuff, and her attitude seemed like "why should I play that". No matter I guess. I like a couple of their songs, and would turn them up if they came on the radio, I'm just not like most of the fans I've met who eat sleep and breathe the pixies.

Because Dream Theater is a GREAT band. Seriously. DO you see how FAST Petrucci plays? Man! It completely overwhelms the fact that none of them can write for shiat.

Okay, I see where you got that.

I think it really depends on whether she was talking about whether she can technically play her bass, or if she can play technical bass parts. Big difference. Yeah, I'm sure she'd admit that they're not as technically complex or proficient as a band like Dream Theater, but that's hardly an admission to being proud of not being very good at their instruments. If you can play your songs well, then you can technically play your instrument and skill is out of the equation, leaving the songs to be judged on their own merit. To me, it just sounds like playing really technical stuff isn't her bag.

Touche. I could never get big into Dream Theater either; filed them under "trying too hard" long ago. Like Vai's "Sex and Religion": all the ingredients for a good record are there but it was left too long in the oven or something.

In that "virtuoso" genre, though, I really like Paul Gilbert's latest "Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar". He writes pretty neat stuff, and seems like a really down to earth musician.

You're right about Kim Deal in the sense that she's pretty much self taught, showed up to the band not knowing how to play bass. The other band members are solid though, Joey Santiago especially. And as a unit, they were great, how about the song that Cobain thought was the best pixies song, seeing as how you mentioned Nirvana:

Just a note, for you, since you seem to dense to understand all the hate directed at you.

Aside from "not safe for work" posts, the following are also unacceptable:

Attention whoring: This is a little SCOTUS-esque -- that is, we know it when we see it. This includes posting disruptively in threads that have nothing to do with you by means of; directing fellow Farkers to your website, image gallery, or just posting your personal images etc. That is crossing the line into "attention whore" territory. We have Classified Ads if you are looking to get attention for your website and we welcome those submissions. We also have a Fark Parties Forum where attention whoring is encouraged. Like all Fark forums, F.P.F has its own community ebb and flow and might not receive you with flowers if you dive straight in without getting a "feel" for the place first. Any picture you post of yourself has to be Safe For Work. If it isn't, label it as NSFW and link it.

Keep posting your crappy little blog link and you're going to get reported.
