So---they don't have Guitar Hero in Wisconsin?

/Would be impressed even if he was twice the age.

Elzar: Meh

Hella impressive at 9!

Even more impressive is that the stage can hold that many fat blues musicians at once.

At first I was gonna yell at subby for daring to invoke the name of Stevie Ray.... but that is some hella good guitar playing for anyone. He seems to have a grasp on a ton of musical concepts plus the talent... wow.

I cannot believe he's only 9! He was born in 1999!!

Good stuff.

Then segregation ended. House Rocker Johnson's backing band (The Shadows) are white guys and their shows still kick ass. Get over it old timer.

You trolling on me punk? If so, you're pretty lame as a troll. I'd report you to the mods, but I'd rather enjoy this moment: a punk who willingly admits he plays no musical instrument and actually knows pretty much nothing about music is trolling me. Troll on me some more - it will help you through those long, lonely nights when you gaze into the mirror and say, "God, why me".

as a man still recovering from the awesomeness witnessed at the clapton/winwood show last night, i must say that 9 year old is impressive as hell and has a bright future. STAY AWAY FROM HELICOPTERS KID!

Notice how it is always the blues. I am not all that impressed.
The chords, changes and solos in that type of what I call "white-boy barroom blues" is already done for you. Totally disposable.

Kid has a good head start on about ten million other cliched mediocre Blues guitarists.

Show me a 9 year old that can improvise Free Jazz or compose Classical and I will get really impressed. Lets see a 9 year old "Fripp" or "Zappa" before we come all over our pants in excitement.

Actually, he disassembled the 'real kit' and built the junk kit after we saw the band Recycled Percussion (think Stomp-meets-Blue Man on the college circuit). Like any inquisitive kid, he's always revamping his kit (and making a mess out of my man cave music room!)

I should find a good Recycled Percussion vid link for submission. They're damn good.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, was expecting the kid to play a bunch of slide guitar which is relativly(sp) easy, no chords or fingering but this kid was picking and bending strings, so I was impressed, then jealous then enraged then spiteful....hate that kid

Nice to see a kid with that talent. Heck my little brother can play anything on the Sax he's heard on record and he's only 15. What matters is what they do with that talent.

Take Tony Royster Jr. for example. Tremendous drumming talent who has played with the best of the best. What's he doing now? Playing in Jay Z's backup band.

/Fail

Zappa usually plays over two chord vamps. I love Zappa, but he's not your guy if you're saying that if you're not playing over lots of chords, your solo is valueless. I don't know much about free jazz, but would hazard a guess that you can find a kid this age who can do it, but then you'd have to listen to it. The kid is good. Get a life.

Magnetar White guys like the blues the same way little girls like pink.

HA!
TOO FUNNY
TOO TRUE

My feelings about dumb white guys who are way into the blues can pretty much be summed up by the hilarious "Blues Hammer" scene from the film GHOST WORLD.

Sorry. kinda long but funny.

GoodyearPimp 2009-06-24 10:33:02 PM
Point of order -- I didn't see a line of coke anywhere near that kid.

If he's still ripping up some blues chords at 18, we'll talk.

You obviously aren't trying to make a living playing music. Tony Royster Jr may be on a short leash in Jay Z's band, but it IS a very good gig and a few weeks on tour with Jay Z each year beats a year full of club dates with (often) mediocre musicians making 1/10th the money.

Blah blah blah... Most kids his age are at home on their playstation or x-box. What were you doing at 9? Cut him some slack. He isn't the best, but he is only 9. A little encouragement, and keep him away from folks like you and he might be something some day.

ummm... possibly no...
maybe it was just me, but i thought that his guitar was the quietest instrument in the video... the drums and other guitar were all louder than his guitar...

good reference tho...

Yeah, but he's not like the robotic Japanese kids. He actually looked like he enjoyed it and, at the very least, felt it to some point.
