Sad....

Off to the great pajama day in the sky.

This isn't really that good of a headline.

Still sad.

Seriously, it's been a month...

The news isn't that he died, but the "accidental" and "overdose" confirmation

I don't think anyone who was a fan and knew about Jay was surprised by this, but it is still very very sad.

Playing "I'll Decorate My Love" right now... great song.

Not really. When he died, everyone made it clear that there would be no official discussion of cause of death until the autopsy was complete.

Still, it's what (I think) most of us were expecting. He was apparently in need of a hip replacement, and there's worlds of pain that goes along with that.

I met him a couple of times (after he was fired from Wilco) and he was an exceedingly difficult human being. He was also a genius, and we have too few of them around these days.

Just goes to show you don't have live in poor places to find some handshake drugs if you want them. They usually come into town via Chicago and take all sorts of people, even the late greats. I have some reservations when I see kidsmoke because I know how hard it is to stop, but I cerainly don't want to be misunderstood as saying accidental overdose of painkillers is the same as shooting up some kingpin's supply or behaving like some whacked out heavy metal drummer. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but no depression seemed to be involved in this, though it's not impossible. Germany has many more laws that we do restricting the distribution of painkillers like this.

/dumb... heh.

What's up with the "FAIL" tag, Subby? Wouldn't "FOLLOWUP" have been more appropriate?

I wonder...

Feb. 13, 2008 -- Certain prescription skin patches containing the painkiller fentanyl are being recalled because of possible overdose risk.

The voluntary recall applies to the following products with an expiration date on or before December 2009:

* Duragesic pain patch sold by PriCara in the U.S. in the 25 mcg/hr (micrograms per hour) strength
* Generic fentanyl patches sold in the U.S. by Sandoz in the 25 mcg/hr strength
* 25 mcg/hr fentanyl patches made by Alza Corp. and sold in Canada.

Duragesic and fentanyl patches in other strengths aren't being recalled.

All of the recalled patches were made by Alza Corp., an affiliate of PriCara, which is a division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals. PriCara announced the recalls in a news release.

I hate when I wake up feeling old. To beat the ER crowd I have to leave the palace at 4 am on a knee that's swollen bigger than blue.

This time I sprained it kicking at the perfurmed air. I suffered a magnificent defeat in kickball. Girlfriend says "Whatever Happened I Apologize". Must have found out about my titanic love affair. She says I'm handsome but I got no charisma. Just being there is not enough for her. My girl's tough. Better not forget the flowers, she'll leave you red -eyed and blue.

What do I know, I'm always in love. Maybe we're just friends. I can't stand it. Uh. Summerteeth. Um. Pieholden.

I doubt it. They were recalled 4 months ago, and most legitimate prescriptions for fentanyl patches are for 1 month at a time.

Since fentanly is not absorbed orally, it has to be prescribed as a transdermal patch, or as a buccal tablet/lollipop to be absorbed through the oral mucosal.

Of course, you can cut the patch open and put the gel in your mouth and have it absorb that way. A 25mcg patch will deliver 25mcg of fentanyl per hour over a 72 hour period. After 72 hours, there is still 750mcg of drug remaining in the gel.

Just saying

For the record I've worn a fentanyl patch -- for a couple weeks after having a surgery -- and you get all kinds of warnings about how to use it, where to put it, etc.

I've NEVER heard of anyone wearing them "on their back". The suggested places to wear a fentanyl patch (according to my instructions) are "the chest or upper arm", especially a place "without hair" and that's "not likely to sweat". I've seen a picture of this guy, and I don't think he looks like an example of a particularly well shaven dry backed individual.

/had some buddies in college who would put fentanyl patches on their skin
//then warm them up with a hair dryer because heat releases the dope
///and it can kill you

That made me laugh.

Jay liked drugs. He liked them a lot. When I last saw him, he claimed he was clean and appeared to be, but that was several years ago.

My dog did after she got hit by a car a few years back. I had to go pick up a second one from the pharmacy. If I had cracked a molar one week later than I did, we would've had to arm-wrestle for it.

In any case, it's a shame to lose the guy. Bennett was damn talented.

I have no doubt that he needed to leave Wilco when he did, and no doubt that he contributed a ton when he was in the band. Whether he's a dick or not, sucks to see someone go like that.

Hey, it's "Froot Loops", ok pal? Not "Fruit Loops".

I suppose you also think it's "Captain Crunch". No. No. It's "Cap'n Crunch".

Thank you Midnight Rambler.... geeeeez!

Also doschi... just because I've had way too much coffee today: Of the 12 songs listed in my retarted diatribe, 6 of them are from albums Jay worked on... therefore, your statement than "MOST of the songs were written after Jay was out of the band" is completely FALSE by logical definition. So there. Sheeeesh!

Enjoy man. I am not that big on going to Brooklyn, and I know the Wappingers Falls show will be a lot less crowded. You'll probably get a better show though.
