"Cornell recently admitted he would "never count out" the idea of a reunion, after previously insisting there was no chance they would get back together because it would never live up to his expectations."

...after hearing his last album, this is probably the smartest decision he's made in a LONG time....

/will they get Timbaland to produce it?

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2009-06-23 02:36:16 PM
Who cares? Cornell's voice is shot. Like Robert Plant, he is a wimpy, nasally whiny version of his former self.

I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

El Chode [TotalFark] 2009-06-23 02:37:49 PM
1) I thought Cameron was having too much fun with PJ
2) I thought Thayil was having too much fun eating cheetos and pizza and beer
3) What about Yamamoto?

DNRTFA, but isn't their drummer still in Pearl Jam?

I would like to see this happen.

I always did like them back in the day.

Well, thank Christ. Audioslave was somehow far, FAR less good than the sum of its parts, and to call Cornell's latest solo record a joke would be an insult to jokes. 'Bout time they did something worthwhile.

Methinks they're gonna have a hard time prying Matt Cameron away from Pearl Jam, though. Not like they haven't had a Spinal Tap-worthy rotation of drummers, but he's been with 'em awhile, and they just released a record.

Soundgarden sucks.

Damn. I was hoping for another James Bond theme song at the very least.

j/k

I'd be for this. I listened to Fresh Tendrils on my way home from hockey last night and was saddened that I never saw them live.

/would pray they played Like Suicide

Didn't they already reunite last year? Link (new window)

Imagine the possibilities: A Soundgarden / Pearl Jam co-headlining run. This fixes the scheduling problems of the drummer. Or, if Matt doesn't feel up to two sets a night, do what Jimmy Page did a while back. He toured with someone and they shared the crew. Page on one night, the other band in the same town, same stage, etc. PJ one night, SG the next for those who don't care too much for the other band. This also solvees the drummer problem.
Either scenario leads to possible Temple of the Dog jams at the end of the night.

/wishful thinking

Uhhh.... is May 2006 "just"?

They are about to release one... in the fall.

the thrill is gone with cornell. he is the embodiment of what happens when you let bread sit in water for too long.

saw them at lollapalooza '96 in upstate ny, so i'm at least glad to say i got to see them in their prime. the black hole sun solo performance by cornell was very cool

I would love to see Soundgarden play live, the only problem with that is hiding my HUGE F*CKING BONER!
Please let this happen baby Jesus.

FTA: (Cornell) said, "My fear would be that we wouldn't tap into the greatness we felt when we were on our game."

Exactly.

Get together, play through the old stuff, jam for a bit, and try to write some stuff. Practice it. Listen to it.

-- Does it excite you? Does it excite others?
-- Does it sound fresh, or does it sound recycled?
-- Does it capture the Soundgarden je ne se quoi?
-- Is it genuine, or phony?
-- Are you going to capitalize on reunion buzz and go for some slicked-out record?
-- Or are you going to go back to basics?
-- Can you get along with each other? Share songwriting credit? Leave the bullshiat outside and just focus on making great music together?

Most of all, will you want to tour?

You didn't really enjoy it before, and it showed. I mean, I don't mind if you guys make some more albums and not tour, if the music's great.

Just please don't make this suck. I despise half-baked, commercial, middle-of-the-road, boring, doesn't-even-sound-like-the-band, reunion albums, and I won't watch Soundgarden becomes the grunge version of the Eagles.

Theonceovertwice 2009-06-23 06:15:25 PM
I saw them in 1989. I don't think they could replicate that same appearance now, but I'd be willing to give it a go.

AgentOrangeDrink 2009-06-23 06:15:34 PM
This would be pretty cool. If they could break up Pearl Jam and keep them from releasing anymore music it would be the greatest achievement in all of history.

Superunknown
is probably my favorite rock album from the 90s.

"Head Down"? "Limo Wreck"? "The Day I Tried to Live"? "Fourth of July"?

F*cking brilliant record.

i liked some songs on Superunknown
but beyond that...

that Black Hole Sun dirge shiit?
ugh.

If it gets Nickelback and all the current whiny/anthemic/emo "rock" bands off the radio, I'm all for it.

As a matter of Fact, I'd like to see Kim Thayill beat up Nickelback.

Saw some great Soundgarden shows. Saw them with Pearl Jam at the City Colosseum in Austin in '93 or '94. Saw them with Ministry at Lollapalooza in '92 in Houston. That was farking awesome.

I doubt this will go very far. I don't see Kim Thayil doing a serious tour anytime soon.

I remember Thayil giving an interview back when they first broke up and he told the interviewer that he had retired. She then asked, "So what are you going to do now?" He looked at her funny and said, "What do you mean? I'm retired! Nothing!" (I'm paraphrasing)

Since then, from all reports, he just kinda has fun occassionally playing with friends around town and drinking.

I see this turning out similar to the Pixies reunion: couple of big shows at festivals around the country, maybe a new song recorded, and then nothing...

I enjoyed reunion shows from Buzzcocks, Mission of Burma, Dinosaur Jr., the Pixies and X. And the first three also released post-reunion albums that were not entirely embarrassing.

Everything I heard about the Pixies tour focused on how incredibly lucrative it was, and if they actually move a fair number of the Minotaur box set, well, that might entice some more bands from that era to cash in. Although I'm pretty sure Soundgarden did a bit better than the Pixies the first time around, so maybe Thayill is really set for life. More power to him if he's happy and can resist the lure of the lucre.

This is just farking lovely. I saw Chris Cornell in Germany a while ago, and needless to say his Voice sounded farking great. Best show I've been to since Soundgarden in '92.

By 2010, his voice'll be completely back and so will his hair.

/FARK YEAH

You must not have been at the RHCP shows right after John came back. It was amazing for me, cuz I didn't think I'd ever hear any of the old RHCP songs (pre-John) live.
