While that's a good song, not nearly close.

My submission:
Justin Moore...probably NSFW (new window...song starts at 1:08)

There is something about her voice that is like nails on a blackboard to me.

And begging her cheating man to stay only makes it worse.

If it isn't Larry Pierce, I'm not interested.

What's worse than that is that she's the mistress, not the wife.

Didn't know 1990 was a country song.

/no wonder it sucked.

"Love Like This" by Drive-By Truckers is the best country song since 1990

Oh, sure, you think that way now, but wait 'til you find a stack of her old love letters, and her ten inch peter.

Sorry, it's "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus.

Hey Subby, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams III, Willie Nelson, Old 97's, Merle Haggard, Ryan Adams, Billy Joe Shaver, John Doe, Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, and 16 Horsepower, they would all like a word with you.

/mind you, this is all off the top of my head.
//mostly johnny cash.
///some probably not considered real country.
////never farking forget johnny cash.

I honestly can't listen that closely.

In other Sugarland songs where she's singing harmony, it's not so bad, but when she's the main voice I just can't stop cringing.

Awful. For good country, try Uncle Tupelo/Son Volt/Wilco.

Sugarland? Ha ha ha, I didn't even listen to the song, I just stopped at the name. Because I know they aren't real country.

Take one half of Soul Miner's Daughter, add two longtime Atlanta folk artists, mix in a strong desire to finally cash in - and you have Sugarland.

Not that there's anything wrong with want to make some money - but the one member who probably deserved it most, Kristen Hall, got kicked out of the band, didn't she? Leaving behind the other two who were already better suited to selling out.

But let's call a money making opportunity what it really is. Having been familiar with will three artists before they formed this band, it was clear that it was about making commercial music, not real art. Money is great, but Sugarland's no more country than the rest of the pop-country crap.

If you want some great post-1990 country music from the same region, try Athens' The Star Room Boys (new window). Why Do Lonely Men and Women Want to Break Each Other's Hearts in particular is an incredible album if you like country music. And the slide guitarist, John Neff, currently plays with the Drive-By Truckers. (He's also in Japancakes, and probably a few other bands)

I used to be in an alt-country band in Atlanta, we got to open for Wayne last winter, the man is AMAZING. Also Southern Culture on the Skids for good measure.

yes! although i'm far more of a jay f. fan than a j. tweedy fan, so i'm not as big into wilco

also saw SOUTHERN CULTURE ON THE SKIDS mentioned...saw them in little rock at juanitas, much fun! and my friends' band PAIL in texarkana plays that song

yes, lots of them

and while i consider the song in question to be an ok song, it is not country.

if sugarland, lady antebellum, and rascall flatts are country, then nickelback, seether, and 3 doors down are metal!

FTFA: Sugarland performing stay there new single at the 2007 CMA awards

So, is the song called Stay There?

I got to 1:06 and was already nauseous from cliche overdose. My god, I loathe country.

If growing up means I have to like this hillbilly shiat, I'll remain an adolecent

If you're talking mainstream, radio-friendly, marketable-star country, I would say Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss' "Whiskey Lullaby" is one of the better songs of the past decade.

sgilman: If growing up means I have to like this hillbilly shiat, I'll remain an adolecent

or you could realize that you don't have to like everything, that just because something doesn't matter to you, it doesn't matter to someone else. because you can't find something special in, say Johnny Cash, that no one can. the submitted song, i think it's shiat, but that doesn't mean someone can't find something to appreciate in it, and to completely dismiss something as shiat because it doesn't mean anything to you does yourself a disservice.

/apologies.

I've found that Jaime Johnson, and "High Cost Of Livin'" is a pretty damn good new country song. He's got a Merle kinda style.
