I keep meaning to watch this, but don't.

There is no way in hell a new Heavy Metal movie could even come close to the last one :p

They've had a song for Heavy Metal: Double Team

I never bothered with the second movie. There's only been one Heavy Metal movie as far ask I'm concerned.

I'll reserve judgement on the new one until it's being made and the internet tells me what to think.

I didn't see Heavy Metal until I was 23 or so, which may explain why I thought it was a complete waste of my time.

/10 years earlier, and I'd probably consider it to be OMG BEST MOVIE EVAR.
//Oh well.

Why do we need another one?

Julie Strain was the sum total of Penthouse.

Who is planned next?

"I'm the devil, I love metal!"

So stupid yet so awesome.

MetaCarpal: and the internet tells me what to think

The internet thinks you should bring me a cheeseburger.

Or a Loc-Nar

FTFA: The film, once set up at Paramount, is now at Sony. David Fincher, James Cameron, Gore Verbinski, Zack Snyder and Guillermo del Toro have all been namechecked in association with the film. Recently, Kung Fu Panda co-director Mark Osborne was said to be interested in doing a segment

So, of the six directors we might get, a whopping ONE of them has experience in animation. Thanks, Hollywood.

Oh, and I've always felt the soundtrack was one of Heavy Metal's weakest points. It makes a decent album, but in the context of the movie it's distracting and contrived and panders to the audience and I really wish they'd have just gotten Elmer Bernstein to score the whole damn thing.

It's my loc-nar you stupid biatch.

/The soundtrack is pretty awesome.

I'm not sure anyone has ever thought that, but the movie does have a certain undeniable charm.

The "first" Heavy Metal is a complete waste of time and offensive to anyone who likes film or animation.

Ratbert42 2009-06-23 09:19:39 AM
I thought they already made a third one.

SACRILEGE!

Oh yeah? Well, your mom said the same thing about you, but replaced "film and animation" with "violence and boobs".

#1 was good.
#2 was awful.
I am old now and #3 will likely go unnoticed by me.

I saw it when it came out, and I thought it was the greatest movie ever. Of course, I was 14 at the time. Told my parents, "it's a cartoon, how bad can it be?"

Wrong_Intentions 2009-06-23 01:19:36 PM
So long as it has the animated Boobies.

SynthLord 2009-06-23 03:57:24 PM
The trouble with this movie is that it's going to be all modern and glossy. They can do a lot of killer things with animation these days, but I would LOVE it if they'd attempt to capture that lo-fi je ne se quois of the original, in the same spirit Tarantino did his Grindhouse movies.

Whatever it turns out to be, if it garners a PG13 rating, I'm definitely out. That will be the last nail in the coffin of movies made for grown-ups.

British 2009-06-23 07:38:44 PM
The second one was terrible. From what I remember of the first, it had grainy hand-drawn animation that was wonderful. And it was edgy.

LEAK THIS SHIAT ON THE INTERWEBS NOW!

Also...The D+Brutal Legend = a cream dream
