Would love to watch her crash and burn, but it's Bill Maher. I just can't do it.

The only people who think Meghan McCain is a "Republican talking head" are Meghan McCain and a lot of people who don't know any actual Republicans.

Like all republicans, I certainly don't agree with anything she says.

But she's one of the few remaining republicans I'd actually be willing to sit down and listen to because she isn't a complete... hmm, gasbag?

Seriously. According to the Republicans, she's a RINO. Way too moderate and in some places, liberal, like how she calls for equal rights for all Americans. Not by any standard Republican values.

Most likely. But if Meghan McCain wants to be a pundit, then she needs to be able to express herself without falling back on the "but I'm a girl" defense.

Begala was all in all, pretty gentle with her compared to what Hannity would have done to her.

Well, according to the hard right of the party. Hell, there's elements of the party that call her dad a RINO,too. Ahh, to dream of a viable third party....

You know, when she first started talking I was impressed. She talked about what she thought the Republican party SHOULD stand for- inclusion.

but then it became clear that she...didn't know what she was talking about. She's a "paid pundit" but I honestly think that I could school her on any single political issue.

She just...hasn't thought this through.

Meghan McCain is the future of the Republican party, whether they like it or not, and frankly they don't deserve her. If they want to have any voice in the future they need to embrace her and others like her ASAP.

I am willing to cut her some slack on her lack of knowledge (she's only 24) and I don't expect her to be Rachel Maddow.

Actually, if she was a little smarter, she could form her own moderate youth party and kick the crap out of the GOP standard bearers..

I was about to ask if she's still a chubbo but you answered my question. Seriously girl, get on a treadmill. The campaign's been over for more than 6 months.

Newbaca 2009-06-21 08:45:15 PM
From the standard set by other republicans I don't think she did that badly. She was obviously very nervous and she overreacted to Begala's little barb, but it really wasn't that disastrous. She's a republican, nobody was really expecting her to be charismatic or make a case based on reason.

WFern 2009-06-21 08:47:24 PM
I really didn't think she did poorly on the show. Maher was nice to her, but pressed her to explain her points, which she did (albeit shyly). Her only real flaw was that she seemed nervous.

Not the father, no. Too old. Meghan? Hmmmm.....don't much about her except she isn't too popular in the far right. I was kinda under the impression that the press was proping her up because of her last name, her looks and that she's not popular in the hard core fringe of the party.

Hey, I said it was a dream,damnit.

Yeah, same impression i got. But i know why she made such a good impression: she wasn't put up against anybody else. She was doing blogs or interviews, but now that she has to go up against the likes of Begala. And to be honest, that was far from ruthless. If she was to go up against some of the pissed off Republicans we would see real bloodshed.

Her "point" was that she shouldn't be expected to know anything about events that occurred before her birth, and that anyone who calls her on her ignorance is a big fat meanie because she's just a girl and shouldn't be expected to know stupid stuff like "facts".

So, yeah... she explained her "point" rather well.

/but seriously... what kind of retard INTERRUPTS someone else to say "well, I wouldn't know anything about that"??

Befuddled 2009-06-21 09:15:13 PM
To me anyway, there seems to be two groups that are staunchly Republican; the super-rich and the religious nutjobs. Meghan McCain is part of the former and she sees that by being associated with the religious nutjobs is a losing proposition for the GOP which means no more pro-super-rich agenda in DC. What she doesn't seem to understand is that the GOP can't jettison the religious nutjobs and keep the pro-super-rich agenda and have the tiniest hope of winning. The GOP can't get rid of the religious nutjobs but remain unchanged in everything else if they want any hope of winning ever again.

I agree - and I watch his show regularly and agree with much of what he says politically. That said, he is awfully proud of himself when he makes the choir applaud and that smugness sucks.

I like the format of his show and I think his writers frequently put very funny words in his mouth, but he's - yeah - a douche. I'd much rather someone else was hosting the exact same show with the same writers.

Obvious.

She's been a Republican for one year, but everybody wants to call her a spokesperson for the GOP.

Everybody that hates Republicans like her representing the GOP. The Republicans themselves would like her to shut the Fark up and go away. Take her loser dad with her.

Exactly. The article makes a good point - if she came on to argue that Obama should stop blaming Bush for things, she could have at least done some research on past administrations who've had to clean up after shiatty predecessors. What was she planning on talking about otherwise? "It's bad because it's mean to Bush"?

So... why is it that she'll be a guest on Fox News at least once a week for the next 20 years?

I have no idea what she expected to achieve by wandering onto the national stage as a Republican "paid political analyst"... with the belief that actually preparing by knowing anything about Ronald Reagan or his policies was just too much effort, and not worth the time.

Maybe she expected the folks on Bill Maher's show to be like the uber-rich trust-fund dudes that she normally hangs out with:

Meghan McCain: I think that blah blah blah blah, and Republicans blah blah blah.

Dude: Wow, I think it's, like, sooo cool and edgy and brave of you to go on some Liberal's show on TV, and like, talk about being a Republican and stuff. You're, like, an inspiration to me and my frat brothers and the rest of the crew at the Young Republicans.

Meghan McCain: Really? You liked what I had to say? Thanks Trevor!!

Dude: Oh yeah, totally. Now let's go get drunk and make out in the back of my dad's Rolls Royce.
