The NASA moon bombing, a component of the LCROSS mission, may also trigger conflict with known extraterrestrial civilizations on the moon as reported on the moon in witnessed statements by U.S. astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, and in witnessed statements to NSA (National Security Agency) photos and documents regarding an extraterrestrial base on the dark side of the moon.

Uh...

/There is no dark side of the Moon really...as a matter of fact it's all dark.

Perhaps, we can call it the "Earth-shineless Side of the Moon."

Everyone OK with that?

I suppose so, but I think it's a lot cooler sounding to say that the alien moon bases over there are on the dark side of the moon.

This isn't the first time space agencies have done this. The Japanese did it earlier this month, and we did it with SMART-1 after it's ion drive test was completed.

This is just the biggest one.

This is the first time it's going to bother the aliens. Why won't anyone think of the little green children?

Because they're grey.

They may or may not work here already.

Actually, you should meet the guys that work in the Orbital Mechanics / Flight Dynamics department. You could quite easily believe they were not of this earth.

I was watching the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter launch the other day on NASA TV with my daughter.

In the corner of the screen they were showing real-time telemetry of the Classic Orbital Elements (COE) numbers.

I said to my daughter, "It would be really funny if they shut down the Centaur when they reached an eccentricity of 0.00."

"Why?" she asked.

"Because then they wouldn't need to calculate the semimajor axis and the math would be a lot simpler. That's what I'd do. All the textbook questions have circular orbits so that there's no extra math involved with egg-shaped orbits."

Sure enough, the moment the eccentricity hit zero, they had main engine cutoff.

/Rocket scientists hate to do math if they don't have to.

Oh no, NASA is going to bomb the aliens!! I hope NASA keeps this a secret and does not announce to the world that it will occur on October 9th 2009 after a rather lengthy trip there.

Thatguy 2009-06-21 07:53:26 PM
They're going to bomb it during a full moon, so they make sure they get it all.

not with explosives, but we are driving a large chunk of metal into the surface.

here's a link to the actual numbers: http://lcross.arc.nasa.gov/faq.htm#q4

Sh*t, I'm all for triggering conflict with extraterrestrials. Then maybe everyone here on Earth could forget their petty little quarrels for a while.

Nothing unites a people like fear of attack from outside.

Actually we first slammed stuff into the moon before the Apollo program... and during the Apollo program they took up a grenade launcher to perform experiments.
If I recall they also slammed the upper stage of a Saturn V into the moon on a few occasions, which would be far bigger than the centaur booster.

crypticsatellite - Perhaps, we can call it the "Earth-shineless Side of the Moon." Everyone OK with that?

Um. No. It's not shineless. The sun shines on the far side of the moon all the time, genius. Unless it's a full moon, of course. That's why they call it the far side of the moon, not the dark side of the moon. The far side never faces the earth, but it's normally at least partially lit.

Problem?
