be sure to write ,call, email all the reps that you can. This is important. We've got to break the grip of the huge multinational corporations have on our well being. It's being held hostage for profit. It's immoral. It's dangerous for society to have sick people wandering around. The taxpayer covers the indigent anyway.
but instead of preventative it's usually more expensive emergency room visits. Getting people fixed and back to becoming productive is the goal here.

If only we had a Productivity Czar. Maybe the government should just tell people what to do and make! What an innovative and new idea!

As a free market guy, I am no fan of control and hyper-regulation, but if there is one sector that needs more regualtion it is the health insurance business.

Capitalism assumes and requires infinite growth using finite resources. Right now we're experiencing the increase of the price of those finite resource due to demand. We're also experiencing the greed associated with it.

There needs to be a public option.

or

The government needs to completely take over health care (not personal my choice)

THIS!

These are the same insurance companies who won't insure people with pre-existing conditions. The same companies who deny treatment to people because they aren't out of their 6 month or 1 year exclusion before coverage kicks in.

Fark insurance companies. They kill people all the time. And no one says a thing about the deaths they cause. That cost is external.

You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own set of "facts:"

In Poll, Wide Support for Government-Run Health

Seabon 2009-06-21 04:02:17 PM
See if you can spot the contradiction in the two major arguments against a government health care plan:

Argument one: "We don't want a government health care plan because government can't do anything right."

Argument two: "We don't want a government health care plan because it will put the private insurance companies out of business."

randomjsa 2009-06-21 04:10:54 PM
Yes, it's the "will of the people" alright, which is precisely why Obama's health care plan is sinking faster than the Titanic.

Because that is the true will of the people at this time.

ExperianScaresCthulhu 2009-06-21 04:13:54 PM
Subby's headline is stupid -- but since it's a summary of a Daily Kos link, so I guess it's only par for the course.

Democrats also choose special interests over 'the wil of the people'. We have an on-going example of such right now.

Partisanship is moronic no matter who the partisan is.

Thank you God for Democrats.

This is the problem with media. They show both sides even if one side is lying through their teeth. My god the interviewer was even giving out the opposition point of view as if she thought it was correct. When you use phrases like "Which i feel is very sensible" then you have no objectivity.

Has anyone even bothered to ASK the French and English how they feel about their government run plans? Here's a hint, the right wing of England thinks it's one of their shining triumphs.

The amount of sheer willful stupidity the parties on both sides of the aisle are giving against single payer is just.. well, stupid.

FTFA:
The poll found that most Americans would be willing to pay higher taxes so everyone could have health insurance and that they said the government could do a better job of holding down health-care costs than the private sector.

Three things about this poll, first, who was polled other than just 'Americans'?, by how much did this poll favor higher taxes? Was it just 1%, less than one percent, or more than 20%, and finally, was it just 'higher taxes' or was it 'cripplingly higher taxes'? Because in order to cover everyone in the U.S. on a socialistic national health care, or a universal health care, taxes would have to be raised to the point of "Getting one, but paying for three" on everything. I'm not pulling something out of my ass on this. When I was in Denmark they explained to me that everyone gets free medical, but the sales tax to cover it is the equivalent of paying for three and only getting one. Now try to feed your family with only one third of your current spending power. And sadly, in Denmark they at least have the balls to say "If you're not here legally, you aren't covered.", here in the U.S. that's not going to happen. So we'll have to pay into taxes a system that covers 300,000,000 Americans AND illegal immigrants. So taxes will reach that crippling area for anyone BUT the rich and the asshats who decided to force this upon us so they could feel good about giving us all free medical care at the cost of taxing us out of house and home.

The link is to a video of an interview with Chris Dodd and Lindsey Graham. The only content that originated with Daily KOS is a few comments with the video.

Also, while it may be true that Dems also favour special interests over the will of the people, that has nothing to do with the video. By way of (probably terrible) analogy, if I link to an article about, say, the Detroit Lions awful season, am I being biased by not also mentioning in the headline every other sports team that had an awful season?

Not to be trollish here, but the other option is to let people suffer and starve in the gutter, 19th century style.

I'm not sure how I feel about that, but if it comes to me having to feed my family victory brand potted meat product for dinner every night, I might become in favor of it very quickly.

modestlivinglegend 2009-06-21 05:48:13 PM
I love how the people who oppose government paid healthcare (through taxes) argue that the government will then come between you and your doctor. They conveniently leave out that having a "for-profit" insurance company also comes between you and your doctor. Your doctor is at the mercy of the insurance companies. The insurance will deny any claim they can and deny any treatment they can even if you dutifully pay your exorbitant monthly insurance premiums. They are in it to make money for their stock shareholders and their CEO's. Insurance companies have no interest in you getting your medical bills paid and avoid as much as possible.

And do not get me started on the interests of the "for-profit" pharmaceutical companies. You being sick is their bread and butter - or more like their lobster and caviar.

Government healthcare will relieve the employers of paying for health insurance of their staff, freeing up money to pay workers better and reinvest in their companies. Taxes will be paid, but the government will not be in it for profit which will then allow real, effective healthcare to actually be achieved finally.

Everybody cross your fingers and your toes. DOWN WITH FOR-PROFIT MEDICAL INSURANCE COMPANIES!!!!! SHUT THEM ALL DOWN!!!

Crown_of_Shoes 2009-06-21 06:30:18 PM
The Repubs have only two talking points and they don't care that they are false:

- wait lines.
- politicians deciding your treatment plan.

And it's going to succeed at destroying the legislation. Pathetic.

While this is true, I often find that I skip right over the 'diary' entry and go straight to what they've linked.

KOS is a mostly unnecessary middleman, in my opinion. It's also one that effectively turns off a good number of people. Same would happen to freerepublic links.
