You have to admit, it would be way cooler if her face wasn't bald, though. We need more chicks with beards in government.

Geithner, I'm looking at you buddy.

Honestly, you think at this point he'd be checking that detail first. Well, Obama, I didn't vote for you (nothing personal), I don't really agree with you (nothing personal) but I filed my taxes every year since my first job in high school, so you can pick me for that State Department job.

Cue hundreds of comments about this.

Look man thousands of people don't file their damn returns right. Mostly wealthier people. Who's shocked? Anyone? Anyone?

For people to get up in arms over the fact that someone's actually CHECKING up on it now is ridiculous, especially since it's usually average-citizens who are the most scandalized. It's not a partisan thing, it's a class thing. Get it right.

It's his plan to get all of Americas tax dodgers into his adminstration and then make them pay up all at once, thus paying for healthcare.

Ms. Marshall, who was the social secretary in the Clinton White House, notified the Obama administration about the late filings before she was nominated on May 14. She has since provided written answers to questions about the matter from Senator Richard G. Lugar of Indiana, the top Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee, which will hold a hearing on the appointment next Wednesday. The post requires Senate confirmation. ...

Ms. Marshall may fare better because, after ultimately filing the 2005 and 2006 federal and local paperwork, she was entitled to $37,259 in refunds, according to data she provided to Mr. Lugar. ... An aide to Mrs. Clinton, Philippe Reines, said, "In the end, only two American taxpayers were adversely impacted by this inadvertent lapse."

In her written answers and in accounts she gave to government officials, Ms. Marshall has said the errors were unintentional. She has said that her husband failed to recognize that the couple's accountant had included the tax returns for 2005 in a binder he provided with copies of the returns, and that the actual paperwork was never mailed.

The couple learned something was awry, Ms. Marshall has said, when the IRS notified them last fall that their 2006 return had never arrived. She wrote that an agent "advised us that there were a large number of tax returns misplaced by the D.C. post office for the 2006 tax

Wow, a post office screwed up? That's completely implausible! She HAS to be lying! Plus, the witch never even turned the returns in late or anything, and didn't even tell Obama about this issue before!

/wait, what?

$37K in refunds over two years. Damn. Unless she's deliberately loaning the government money with some ridiculously large withholding amounts, I'd guess that she's both high-income and generous to non-profits.

You misunderstand. It's not the "everyone's doing it" defense. It's the "Everyone used to do it and now there's a huge surge in investigations, finding people on both sides of the political spectrum. It's good that we're finding them, but stop trying to pretend it's a "liberal" thing or an "Obama Administration" thing. It's an everyone thing, you collective cockmongers" defense.

...and six months from now, when someone from the IRS finally gets around to auditing her returns, and she has to pay all of that money back, it's not going to get a mention in any major newspaper. It'll be "accounting errors" again. Probably a "nonprofit organization" that does nothing except lend her the use of her house and office...

How does a person conveniently not miss 37 large coming to them for 3 years? She must be one of those filthy stinking rich people where 37 grand is chump change not worth collecting.

Yeah, you'd have to be rich to miss 37k in refunds, but, if the feds owe you money, you have 3 years to file. They don't bother to bug you unless you owe them money.

It may seem stupid, but I know people, who are owed money by the IRS and are dirt poor, yet still haven't bothered to file just because they don't feel like it.

Humans are lazy, what can I say?

I have never really understood this. Can you just not file taxes? If I didn't file this upcoming year would they even know it? I have been filing so their whiz bang computers should be expecting the next one, right?

The whole "paying them in the first place" was the misstep. ;)

My wife's first husband hasn't paid income tax ever that I'm aware of. Mechanic, sometimes self-employed, works under the table, whatever it takes. I'd love to see the little prick go down, but if you were never listed as a "paying taxpayer" and you stay outside the system like that, I'm not sure how they'd go about finding you.

Who mails tax returns to DC? I recall they go to regional processing centers, Philadelphia being one of the main ones.
