We haven't gotten much rain in Seattle recently. We tied the record for most consecutive days without rain (29) last week.

bobjohnson 2009-06-21 12:53:46 PM
Here in toronto we've had a crappy summer so far as well. I can only remember 3 days where its actually been nice so far. Theyre saying the rest of this week is going to be nice, but im not sure if i believe them.

Kevua 2009-06-21 12:55:12 PM
Global Warming is the cause!, Global Warming is evaporating more water, thus making it cooler. We need to stop Global Warming before we freeze to death!!!.

ctobio 2009-06-21 12:55:23 PM
No wonder Seattle has a relatively higher suicide rate. I'm getting absolutely morose.

My lawn is so saturated that the tires of my lawn tractor sink into the muddy ground, so I can't even mow parts of my lawn until they dry out.

On the plus side, I'm expecting the pears from my pear tree to be huge this year. The pears on it now are almost as large as they would be in mid-July.

/Central Connecticut

biatching about weather? dumbasses

Great, so we get out of the rain and proceed directly to humid.

My bad.

/Newyorican transplant, I think I left the weather machine behind on my last trip to NYC

Too many asians that can't drive? Oh, the rain? That first thing, nevermind.

It's been one of the nicest springs I can remember in a long time. It's still Seattle though, the first day kids are out of school for summer the heatwave breaks, and here on the Summer Solstice it's cloudy and showery.

I love rainy days.

Damn, that ruins our plan to hold summer for ransom :(

You shut your whore mouth, submitter! New York ain't got nuthin' on Seattle. There is no comparison, weather or otherwise. They're over there doing their thing, we're over here doing ours and never the twain shall meet.

RightWingNutjob 2009-06-21 01:14:33 PM
We need rain here. Didn't even really have a monsoon season to speak of in my opinion.

I've got moss growing on my brickwork for crying out loud! My friend in Seattle says all the moss on his roof has died. If I don't see some sunshine soon, I'm going to have to kill somebody. Weathermen are at the top of my list.

Monsoon season started three or four days ago, technically, and will continue through August. I think you have to wait at least seven days before you start biatching about it not starting in the first place.

/seriously

To give a little better context for everyone not in New York this dreary (so far) summer, when they say

rainfall already more than 3 inches above the normal total for the entire month

they really mean that rainfall is about 300% higher than average for June.

Before you call us whiny little biatches, imagine getting 300% more snow (if you live in one of them snowy places) or 300% more unbearably hot days (if you live in one of them sunny places).

It's been pretty damn annoying.

Turning New York into an enclave of PC minded too polite over caffeinated passive aggressive left-lane speed-limit drivers talking on cell phones heading to software jobs drinking Starbucks while listening to the White Stripes on their $500 iPods?

moothemagiccow 2009-06-21 01:26:52 PM
why is it every time someone takes a dump in NYC it's national news?

Thud'nBlunder 2009-06-21 01:28:51 PM
Their depiction of the jet stream is pretty weak. Check it out at wunderground.com (weather maps, jet stream). It's moved a bit north on the western end lately. Last week it was coming out of the Sea of Cortez, across Baja and southern CA and northeasterly through New England. LA actually had the same weather as New Jersey for a couple of weeks: low 70s and drizzling.
This time of year, the jet stream should be over Alaska and northern Canada. And the western end almost never goes as far south as it is now, even in winter. In winter, it swoops down out of Canada in the midwest and loops occasionally as far south as Florida, but usually no further than the mid-south. And that's only during serious cold snaps.
This pattern is truly bizarre.

PsychoPhil 2009-06-21 01:29:06 PM
A customer of mine (southern NJ) recently finished a new water treatment plant. The thing being, with it so cold and rainy, nobody's filling pools, watering lawns, washing cars, or anything else. So, water demand's been basically nothing, and as a result, they've not really run the plant much. Which drives them nuts - they can't get a good run out of it while it's still under warranty.

Even funnier, the company likes to tie end of the year bonuses to how much water is 'sold'.

Me? I like the rain. When they blow something up on a Saturday night, instead of calling me in a panic, they just wait till Monday, since they can just turn on another one of their 1/2 dozen idle wells....

Oh, and if this is global warming, bring it on. I haven't run my a/c much either...

The pears likely won't be as good though. More rain means bigger, but less sugar per bite.

At least that's how it is for peaches. They are still good, but the best ones are during drier seasons.

Generation_D: East Coast Media Bias.

It's from a Long Island newspaper. What do you expect? Unless my snark-detector needs a repair.

And yes, this summer sucks so far. Never seen it rain so much and so consistently here.

sentunim 2009-06-21 01:36:37 PM
LOL u fooz, summer only officially started today, so quit complaining that there hasn't been a nice day yet 'this summer.' If it's nice where you are today, then so far 100% of days have been nice. That's my case.

tut0101 2009-06-21 01:40:45 PM
moothemagiccow: why is it every time someone takes a dump in NYC it's national news?

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that 1 in 16 Americans live hereabouts.

Nope, nothing at all.

Hate to tell you this, but NYC's average yearly precipitation is higher than Seattle's anyway.

It's the same way in New England. And it farking sucks. Feel like i'm getting seasonal affective disorder or something from all the goddamned lousy rainy days here.

When outsiders think of Seattle rain, they think downpours all the time.

What it really is is mostly overcast days where we don't see the sun for months and the rest are 'rainy' days where water just kind of atomizes and slowly drifts with the wind.

Cid_Highwind 2009-06-21 02:52:18 PM
So they can't handle Air Force One or a little rain. NYC, your tough guy rep is evaporating.

THIS. Subtroll doesn't know WTF they're talking about. It doesn't rain in Seattle nearly as much as everyone thinks it does. But damn it all to hell, it's always Washington's fault, because Washington, and more specifically Seattle, are the armpit of America.

elkraf 2009-06-21 03:21:18 PM
There has been a black cloud over America ever since Obama has been president.

soj4life 2009-06-21 03:30:21 PM
Meh. I could care less that it is raining so much, I love that my AC isn't running all of the time.

Dr.Zom 2009-06-21 03:31:37 PM
