Some of those really piss me off. Just because someone isn't using a walker, cane or wheelchair doesn't mean they don't have a medical condition that precludes them from walking more than a short distance. Some medical conditons, such as certain types of heart disease/disorders, are invisible.

That. Back before mom got her bionic knee, she looked perfectly normal. (Still does; she didn't go for the chromed out model.) That doesn't change the fact that every step felt like she was grinding broken glass between her bones. Just because your handi-bling isn't visible from space, it doesn't mean you're able to turn cartwheels, haters.

Exactly. My dad had triple bypass surgery, had early stage emphysema and a pacemaker, none of which are externally visible. He had a handicap sign that went on the dashboard plus a permit that hung from the rear view mirror and he still got dirty looks & rude remarks because some idiots couldn't see his handicaps.

That said, I, too, get a touch miffed when Fatty Fat Fat Fat parks at the front of the building, huffs and gasps her way inside like she's on the top of f*cking Everest as her tubby spawn screech along behind her, then settles her massive bulk onto a motorized cart that would be in tears, were it capable of such. You're not handicapped, you're a fatass. I intentionally saw my own hand off, do I get a placard out of the deal?

You'd probably get a one-way ticket to the loony bin.

So they take the space closest to the door so it's not a long walk to go into, say, Wal-Mart and walk about a mile and a half to shop?
And what about the old handicapped fella sitting waiting for his fully able wife to come out? Does he deserve to park there? It's not just the non-handicapped that take advantage.

I would like to report the Yankees pitcher AJ Burnett. He did it at my store during spring training. Actually I don't really care. This is a little busy-body for me. I found a professional athlete doing it quite funny though.

MIguy [TotalFark] 2009-06-21 09:39:14 AM
What pisses me off more is when people who aren't handicapped but are driving a vehicle with handicapped plates park in the spots. You would think the law would state that the person for whom the plate was issued must be in the vehicle to park in a handicapped spot.

Folks, I'd like to sing a song about the American dream.
About me, about you, about the way our American hearts beat way down in the bottom of our chests. About the special feeling we get in the cockles of our hearts, maybe below the cockles, maybe in the sub-cockle area, maybe in the liver, maybe in the kidneys, maybe even in the colon. We don't know

dogologolus 2009-06-21 09:43:08 AM
Not EVERY handicap is visible. Like for instance some of the A-Holes that comment on Fark.

/yeah, and you too

therealpope 2009-06-21 09:43:40 AM
While not a popular view, I think all handicap parking places need to go away. If you can drive a car, you can make it into the store. No special parking for anyone.

Whenever I see women (and thus far it's mostly women) hunt through their purses for a handicapped placard so they can cut the parking line and then sprint inside wherever they're going to cut that line, I double park and box them in. Karma.

I worked with a deaf woman who rented a car at the airport in Lafayette, LA from Hertz.

Her license has a "DISABLED" restriction on it that says something idiotic like she has to drive vehicles with a mirror on both sides of her car.

So when she presented her license at the Hertz desk, they handed her a Louisiana HC tag for her windshield.

And the agent would NOT let her take the car unless she also took the HC tag.

/The sign for "WTF" figured prominently in her retelling of the story.

Bomb Head Mohammed 2009-06-21 09:52:44 AM
Do we not live in the 21st century? Would it REALLY be that hard to create a national database system of these placards that could then be tied to the owner's drivers license? If law enforcement was suspicious, they could type in the vehicle plate on their little onboard computer and then see if the eligible driver for that was the one that happened to be skipping out of the car. If not, fine them.

This is such an easy problem to solve, it's not even funny. Heck, a system could even do temporary tags so that some football player who broke his leg in high school doesn't get to use the tag until the end of time. This is really, really not that hard, people.

/ people who park in handicapped spots wrongly are pricks.

I'd just apply some keys liberally to the exteriors of their cars.

No sticker? No placard? Scratch. Just one, every time I see you do it. Right on the driver side door. They'll get the picture.

I'm talking about repeat offenders, and shiat like the two girls who share the placard between their beemer and suv.

/has a mother with a placard who gets shiat from people.

Get rid of the whole ADA parking laws. Screw the cripples, they are made by god to be weak, and shown by evolution as not deserving life.
If it's profitable for a business to make cripple spaces, let them do it and enforce it on their own terms, keep the damn government out of this idiocy.

We just tow the non-handicap cars that park in handicap zones in front of the hospital. Keying is for amateurs.

That said, I never judge anyone who has a handicap placard but no physical disability. If a family gets a closer spot to the mall for having a loved one die of bowel cancer before the placard expired, they can have it.

Most of the people posting were from California. Does that mean there are more people ripping off handicapped spaces there, or are there just more nosy a-holes in CA?

Yesterday, I saw a woman literally bound out of her car, parked in a handicapped space, handicapped hanger thingy on her rearview. Anyhow, bounded out of her car(i should say 'bounced', cause she was like 350 pounds, footloose and fancy-free style, she then grabbed a crutch from her backseat, then proceeded to hobble her way into a store. It was many levels of awesome to watch.

/'handicapped' fatties. is there anything funnier?

Weequay2 [TotalFark] 2009-06-21 10:04:22 AM
I'm 23 years old and developed a nuerological condition in Iraq which prevents me from walking long distances. Otherwise I look normal. If some walmart-soccermom b*tch gave me shiat about parking with my handicap tags I'd slap the sh*t out of her.

/I get pissed at handicapped fraud too but it's hard to know who's really hurt

Well as a cop in florida who writes handicap tickets when I see violations, shockingly this is something our state actually got right..

The handicap placards have decals on them which are supposed to have the handicapped persons driver license number or state issued number which links back to thier license on dhsmv computers.

It is also a misdemeanor to use one that isnt yours too..

^A little bit of column A, and a little bit of column B.

If I had a tow truck I'd use it, Byno. Not that I actually go around keying cars all day. I can't even recall ever doing it. But if I was a business owner or a gimp and saw some asshole flagrantly using spots he or she had no right to... Bing.

From their about us page:

"Who Are We to Say Who is Handicapped?"

"If you accidentally report someone that truly is handicapped, there is nothing that will happen to them."

..Except for being listed on a shaming site, of course. I'm all for shaming idiots who are abusing the system, but not at the expense of people who are legitimately handicapped.

Every now and then I forget to hang my placard, because it impairs visibility when I drive, and sometimes I can be absent minded.

I hope my car doesn't get keyed because of it, Judge Dredd.

This SUV with Texas plates has been parking in the handicap parking spot at Continental Life Building apartments for at least the past 3 months. Does not have any handicap tags.

This person is missing the obvious point here: they're from Texas, so being handicapped is implied.

Sometimes it's hard for me to decide who's shiattier... the people on the websites that Fark links to, or the people who comment on the Fark article. Can't I just hate them both and wish to see both groups dead?

My doctor gave me a prescription for a handicap permit because I have rheumatoid arthritis. I haven't used it to actually get the permit yet, as I still have more good days than bad ones.

It'll be interesting when I finally do start using it, since I usually bike to work (even on the bad days). I expect that the more observant security people may have difficulty with seeing me ride one day but drive and take a handicapped spot the next.

Proud2B_American 2009-06-21 11:41:17 AM
I have a HP placard, which I only use on rare occasion. It's not because I don't need it, I do, it's because I am thinking there are folks worse than I am. Even when I walk with a cane, I will still leave the spot, if it's the last spot or if it's for a lift van. I do use the placard when I am not feeling well, or there are multiple spots. I do get pissed when I see people park in the cross lines meant for van accessibility. A lot of the posts on that page seem to come from ITG's or Internet detectives. One I read used the term 'the suspect' Who the FARK do these idiots think they are? If you have a problem...call the real cops instead of confronting people...Yeah that just might not be too good for your health...

/End of rant...
