He was returning from a regional conference March 29 when TSA screeners at Lambert-St. Louis (Illinois) International Airport saw a metal cash box in his carry-on bag.

Kudos to the guy for getting that all recorded. Watch somebody try to go after him for wiretapping.

I must have missed the section where the TSA describes how to bring down an airplane with $100 bills... maybe you throw them into the engines like geese?

its the war on drugs. he's carrying all that money because its from drugs, so they can take it without asking and make him prove that it wasn't for drugs.

Fu*k the TSA.

There is not one single redeeming quality about that clusterfu*k of an agency.

It's like a magnet for Napoleonic retards.

Calmamity: It's like a magnet for Napoleonic retards.

I think it's a great idea to give power to people who couldn't even become mall cops. Best thing Bush ever did, in my opinion. We're all very safe from people with money. And shoes. And more than 2 ounces of liquid that isn't baby formula or medically necessary and is placed in a 1 quart zip-top bag.

I shudder to think of what could be done by cosmetics-wielding senior citizens or a business man with a water bottle. The horror, the horror...

Steve Bierfeldt says the Transportation Security Administration pulled him aside for extra questioning in March. He was carrying a pocket edition of the U.S. Constitution and an iPhonecellphone capable of making audio recordings. And he used them.

I know one group that is increasingly happy about the inability of passengers to carry liquids through security checkpoints: kiosk owners and vendors inside security. How do you like your $4 coke?

"Airport security is a stupid idea, it's a waste of money, and it's there for only one reason: to make white people feel safe! That's all it's for. To provide a feeling, an illusion, of safety in order to placate the middle class. Because the authorities know they can't make airplanes safe; too many people have access. You'll notice the drug smugglers don't seem to have a lot of trouble getting their little packages on board, do they?......"

---RIP George

"Did you pack your bags yourself?"

"No, Carrot Top packed my bags. He and Martha Stewart and Florence Henderson came over to the house last night, fixed me a lovely lobster Newburg, gave me a full body massage with sacred oils from India, performed a four way 'round the world', and then they packed my bags.

Rodeodoc 2009-06-20 07:15:40 PM

I was also going to say that the TSA only hires retards that don't have enough brains to be real cops, but Calmamity and wee said it better.

According to the TSA, "Passengers are required to cooperate with the screening process. Cooperation may involve answering questions about their property. A passenger who refuses to answer questions may be referred to appropriate authorities for further inquiry"

Well, what exactly does the screening process involve? Oh anything the TSA agent wants, I guess it's okay then.

The TSA is a needless waste of money. The 19 hijackers on 9/11/01 did nothing that was "not allowed" during the boarding process. The thing that everyone has forgotten is that the screeners we had on 9/11/01 did everything they were supposed to do based on the regulations at the time. (IE: Boxcutters were not banned from carry-on.)

Hate the game, not the playa. The formation of the TSA was at best an over-reaction and at worst an arbitrary growth of bureacracy and government power.

But you can pound on a gold bar flat, and get a pretty good edge on it. Security would have to confiscate it.

Which is why - just like it is with cops - recording ANY govt employee will be made illegal.

(No, I know it's not illegal but tell that to them from your hospital bed after they beat the shiat out of you, taze you and destroy your cameras, etc.)

//Last time I flew (which was the first time in YEARS) the TSA agent told me that I couldn't carry on my toothpaste as it was in excess of the liquid amount allowed.

I pointed out that it was at least 85% empty and, hence, would then be significantly LESS THAN the maximum amount allowed.

He looked at me, confused by my use of "facts" like volume, etc and was reaching for his radio (to call who? the toothpaste police) when I just told him to pitch it.

Security theater, chapter and verse.

Eponymous 2009-06-20 07:26:24 PM
TSA'ers are basically DMV'ers with a gun fetish.

Thank God they're not able to unionize....can you imagine the chip on their shoulder that they'd have if they thought the union would allow them to get away with even more shiat???

You should have pointed out that toothpaste is more of a semisolid and not really a liquid. I'm sure he would have found that amusing.

skylabdown: (IE: Boxcutters were not banned from carry-on.)

Completely anecdotal, but I had a security guard at Denver International refuse to allow me to proceed until I'd removed the boxcutter from the backpack I was using as carry-on (I'd forgotten it was in there and just packed my stuff right over the top of it). Since I couldn't really go back and check it without missing my flight, he agreed to just take the blades out of it and let me go on my way.

That was May 2001.

Those who are given police powers aren't allowed to make up the rules as they see fit. There was no crime in what he did so they can't detain him just because they want to.

Why don't those who scream and holler about the rise of a totalitarian state for other things show the same outrage at the things which really are steps toward a totalitarian state?

The constitution says you don't have to say anything that might incriminate you. This also means you don't have to say anything when you've done nothing wrong.

You want to know about my financial history get a warrant.
