I liked the frontgirl ok, but that song sucked.

As long as Jack White don't sing, I'll listen to it.

Subby gets his opinions directly from EW apparently...how original. This is decent, not great, but better than most of the garbage that passes for music these days.

Garbage.

it being jack white i was expecting much less. i wouldn't buy the album but they don't suck.

gonzoduke: As long as Jack White don't sing, I'll listen to it.

I dig the Raconteurs partially because Jack's not singing all the time. Listening to them is a little like listening to The Beatles--and I hate to draw the parallel because you'll assume I mean on talent--in that you can tell what Jack's written and what Brendan's written the same way you could tell what John wrote and what Paul wrote. A couple of their songs have writing transitions halfway through, just like "A Day in the Life."

And "Consolers of the Lonely" was a farking awesome album, too.

unyon [TotalFark] 2009-06-19 11:54:41 AM
They're alright. They remind me of the Tea Party circa 1993 without the Doors-ish influence, all screachy-ethereal and a little noodly in places.

Frankly, it's been done.

I like Jack White, but that sucked diarrhetic, hemorrhoid infested ass.

TexasPeace [TotalFark] 2009-06-19 12:27:29 PM
terrible

BobtheFascist 2009-06-19 12:43:32 PM
Sounds like a HS garage band. Pretty much what I expected.

IndyMBA [TotalFark] 2009-06-19 12:43:36 PM
That was just bad music...no other way to describe it.

I wanted to like the song because I like the White Stripes and the Raconteurs but I can't.

Dr.Knockboots [TotalFark] 2009-06-19 01:22:15 PM
I need a list of Fark-approved bands/singers/musical artists that are okay to like because they are good.

TommyymmoT [TotalFark] 2009-06-19 01:40:33 PM
I was at a loss for words when I had describe that performance, so I had to come up with a new one.

Thus, the term "beastial-necro-fellatio" entered my lexicon.

rsherva 2009-06-19 01:47:53 PM
Wow, that was bad. To be fair, the album version of that song is a lot better.

MDGeist 2009-06-19 01:48:33 PM
Wait, people actually care about Jack White even though he has no talent?

Nope, sorry. This IS the garbage that passes for music these days. When 20 years have passed and Jack White is in the list of 5 musicians people remember from this decade, then we'll talk.

NittLion78 2009-06-19 01:56:00 PM
The song was very stop-and-go and felt kind of disjointed. The parts that rocked rocked and the parts that didn't felt like dead air.

Come to think of it, maybe that's where the band name originated. Anyway, a lot of my favorite albums I didn't like when I first heard them. I just need to hear the rest of this one.

can we turn this into the thread where we discuss other Tonight Show performances?

IE John Mayer Trio kicking so much ass I lost 15 lbs just listening to his cover of "California Dreamin'."

I was thinking that the singer was good; now, if only the band backing her would actually start playing a song, then they'd actually get somewhere.

It sure as hell was. Fantastic album.

For Jack White fans, It Might Get Loud (new window) looks to be a hell of a movie.

/White on drums and not singing? Meh

cannotsuggestaname [TotalFark] 2009-06-19 02:05:54 PM
not great, not horrible. Just another band that will fade away since they don't seem to do anything to distinguish themselves from other sounds out there.

That was difficult to listen through.
Raconteurs ++

The highlight of last night's show was Eva Mendes - awesome!

Tui 2009-06-19 02:07:57 PM
I thought it was pretty good, until I read that a bunch of people here don't like it, now I think it's absolute crap.

Seriously, it's not the greatest thing I've ever heard but compared to what's getting played on the radio, I'll take this any day of the week. I actually look forward to listening to the whole album.

Jack's a good drummer too.

How can anyone say jack white has no talent. This may or may not be your cup of tea, and you may not like the white stripes, but to say he doesnt have tallent is just foolish.

Dr. Nick Riviera [recently expired TotalFark] 2009-06-19 02:14:46 PM
Kind of a mediocre performance, but the album version has grown on me since it came on the radio. The only problem I have with it is that putting Jack White on drums just seems like a waste of talent.

I Like Bread: When 20 years have passed and Jack White is in the list of 5 musicians people remember from this decade, then we'll talk.

I legitimately think he will be. He's been one of the few bright spots in mainstream rock in the past decade.

Rapmaster2000 2009-06-19 02:16:40 PM
MDGeist: Wait, people actually care about Jack White even though he has no talent?

I've been saying the same thing about those godawful Rolling Stones since the 60s. They're worse than that no-talent Black Francis.

Gunbuster718 2009-06-19 02:17:20 PM
I've always wonder, he should collaborate with Jack Black musically.

Then they will be Jack Grey.

/horrible idea is horrible.

Jaromayo 2009-06-19 02:18:43 PM
Meh, I give it a C+. Not the worst song I've ever heard, but I probably won't buy the album.

Better than his talentless ex-wife, anyway. She's the reason I can't listen to the White Stripes. I know that's supposed to be part of the appeal, but she couldn't hold down a beat if it were chained to the floor.

This wasn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be, though. Not great, but it's really not that terrible.

CruiserTwelve [TotalFark] 2009-06-19 02:25:44 PM
This generation needs a band to come along and change the whole sound of rock music like the Beatles did for mine. Rock is getting boring and unoriginal.

Wombatzu 2009-06-19 02:27:53 PM
Will Ferrel is terribly unfunny.

/aw crap, wrong thread

mome23 2009-06-19 02:32:32 PM
Those who liked the girl singer might want to check out her band The Kills. I especially like the first album, Keep on Your Mean Side.

Jmz007 2009-06-19 02:34:59 PM
it is growing on me....the song is...

Vephoma 2009-06-19 02:38:36 PM
What the heck? That was God-awful. Look, I know everyone has an opinion, and we all can express is, blah blah. Seriously, there comes a time when you need to really look at what you are calling good music and say, "Wow, this is hurting the media and bringing the entire art form down. If we want the style to survive, we have to stop letting this crap pass as talent."

/My opinion is more right than yours is.

Someone please teach Jack White how to play drums. (i.e. don't put the crash so far away you have to bow down to play it, you still have to count when no one is playing, etc.)

deadsanta 2009-06-19 02:50:47 PM
Shoot, I know The Kills, they have some good stuff; "Rodeo Town" is a song I like a lot but she was not at all convincing as a rocker out there, and frankly i gotta blame the whole unit for that, that song felt broken.

FreeLoveFreeway 2009-06-19 02:55:36 PM
That chick is hot.
