I think Courtney prety much sums up what would have happened had Nancy lived and Sid died that night in the Chelsea. A soul stealing ghoul living on the memory of the talent and popularity of the troubled man who she helped to kill indirectly. Whos trouble she had magnified by her very presence. I always figured whoever killed Nancy Spungeon was trying to do Sid, and the world, a favor.

I'm not saying that Sid=Kurt in terms of talent/relevance/importance. But I find the parallels between Nancy and Courtney, and their relationships with the two men, to be unsettling

The sad thing is that if she didn't bomb outright after Cobain's death, she could have leeched off another band and been their Yoko. Now, she's so messed up that she exists in limbo, unable to find another host to parasite off of and now wears her Cobain image. She's basically in the same boat as Winona Ryder: the child and now pathetic reminder of the 1990s.

love hole, this is good news

I like Hole and I find Courtney Love fascinating and talented, but my sig. o bought me her solo album from a few years ago and it was awful. I hope this dude she's working with writes some good songs for her. She is (or was) a good singer, as far as interpreting a song with emotion, so I have a little bit of hope for this project. Also, I like Linda Perry. I had a huge crush on her when I was a teenager and she was in 4 Non-Blondes.

Oh, please. All the Kurt fans are here to scream their lies about Courtney being a murderer and a thief... You've all been slobbering Dave Grohl's wang a little too long, I think.

The truth is that Courtney was famous BEFORE Kurt ever was, and that she had been playing punk/indie music for years before Kurt ever got signed. Hole's record was a hit before Nirvana's... But Nirvana's was a bigger hit because girls thought Kurt was hot (in that 90s slacker way) and guys thought he was proof that being a stupid, moderately-talented, junkie slacker was a profitable and cool way to live.

Cobain is the most overrated artist of the past 30 years. He was a mediocre guitarist, a sub-par songwriter (He only every wrote poems about his own grief, pain, and delusions, and had a tendency to fall back on simplistic chorus & bridge combinations), and hit his highest point by covering a David Bowie song (and it was worse than the original version, but grunge fans were too young and stupid to know it wasn't Kurt's song in the first place).

Now, I'm a bit biased. I've got personal experience with Courtney... Not much, but enough to know that while she may be an opportunistic biatch (and proud of it), she's not a murderer and she IS actually very talented. She's also very intelligent and strong-willed, and she was probably the only one keeping Kurt from blowing his brains out earlier. She knew him better than Grohl did, anyway, and Grohl has always wanted to paint it as if she was Yoko and seduced him away from all that was good in the world. The truth is that Kurt was the major-league f*ck-up of that couple, and she did a hell of a lot for him. She was certainly far more intelligent than Kurt, and while she was a junkie too, she was just stronger than Kurt ever was.

But of course, all the little grunge fans are still in dead-hero worship mode after Kurt's heroic surrender to his addictions, and since they can't deal with the fact that Kurt's mental problems led to his death, they must make shiat up to paint the love of his life and woman who stood by him through worse shiat than you'd imagine as some sort of horrible black widow, even though at the time of his death her records were doing just fine, as was her acting career, and Kurt was the one whose career was on the skids, creatively and commercially. Their relationship was getting messy, but most of the blame for that fell on him.

It's the same story as with Bowie... I love David Bowie, and I love Angie, but damned if he didn't let Coco demonize her after they split up, and he certainly didn't mind that the fans blamed her for any of his missteps during the time he was with her, when in truth it was Angie who kept him together, came up with much of his image, and put up with his druggie bullshiat.

People and their hero-worship... It makes them see the flaws of their hero as the fault of the one who knew him best, and took care of him when nobody else would.

Wow. John Lydon would disagree with you on some points there. Nancy might have been a waste of space, but Sid wasn't any sort of talented hero who fell solely because of Nancy. Sid was an eternal f*ck-up who couldn't play for shiat, and who wouldn't even BE legendary if it hadn't been for the rest of the band-- and Nancy-- Putting up with him and making excuses for him.

So in a way you're right, but not for the reasons you think Sid and Kurt were similar-- They were both barely-talented junkies who didn't give a shiat about anyone else, who could barely play their instrument, and who got famous almost completely on image alone and the generosity of their band-mates and significant other.

Seriously, I get sick of the Courtney-bashing... Especially since most of it is based in completely bullshiat written by people who never met the woman, or who saw her loss as a way to eke out their own 15 minutes of fame.
