You know what they say about owing large amounts of money -- it's the bank that has the problem, not you.

Sorry, I didn't ask Bush to run the debt up in my name.

As long as we're doing irrelevant statistics, thanks to Wolfram Alpha I know there would be 3.12 x 1015 metric tons of vitamin c in a carrot the size of the moon.

My total debt is a $20,000 car loan and $10,000 in student loans.

Since the median income in the US is ~$50,000, does that mean I owe 3/5 of an American's salary? If so, can I just get one person a job and call myself even?

Numbers + Meaningless Correlation = Meaningless Numbers

So... lemme get this straight. 11 trillion/300 million=36666 (we actually have 320 million or so, I just rounded to make it easier).

So... it is 1 million per household if you have 30 people in your house :)

I also learned while looking up info on the ext4 fs that:

if each byte of data were represented by one molecule of water, 1018 water molecules would weigh just under 3 hundredths of a milligram (0.0299 mg) and the spherical droplet of this amount of water would have a diameter of only 0.385 millimeters.

Wow! We're really gonna need to start cutting taxes. Something about a bigger pie or something. All I know is our debt will get paid off faster if the Gov't has no incoming cash.

I haven't run up any debts.

I probably have a couple hundred on my cards right now, but I pay those at the beginning of each month.

So I think Uncle Sam can go bum off of someone who gives a shiat about his addictions to "Wars on X" and 650 dollar toilet seats. Stop thinking because YOU spend it, Sam, that I should pay it.

If I had a say in where my money was going, I would not be so unamused.

Ah yes. We will power our homes with wind and the sun, while the rest of the world goes nuclear. Let's destroy our currency with unsustainable borrowing and spending. I'm invested abroad anyway.

Get in line. Nevermind, Uncle Sam forces himself to the front of the line.

When you include compounding interest, this does not paint a pretty picture. It will just keep snowballing.

As you should. Because the current administration is only playing a shell game with the numbers and isn't actively trying to fix anything. You know, because both parties are one and the same and all of that. Besides, Obama has already failed, it's been almost 6 months since he took office. [1]

You got me there, I'm betting against the US treasury by shorting the US dollar.

But I'm still patriotically hoping the US gets its act together. Until it does, I see no reason to suffer the financial fallout personally.

This is a non partisan thing though. Money doesn't care about parties. The markets don't care.

Not really. China is trying to find a way to abandon the dollar. They don't want to be on the hook for our debt any more. Hell, they even laughed right in tax cheat Geitner's face.

Schiff's YT Channel (new window)

Peter predicted this entire mess and he's going to be right about the dollar.

11 trillion is only our government's foreign debt, iirc. This is talking about combined public and private debt, which is about 75 trillion $. At a population of 350 million or so that's about 200k$/person, or a million per household of 5.

Their calculated value is a million per household of 4, so they're probably discounting part of the population for some reason. Possibly not counting people under 18 who can't own debt? That would make the 'family of 4' kind of nonsensical as most such families have only two debt-holders, but meh.

Their analytical ability is questionable, but their math is fine.

Semantic Warrior [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 09:13:06 PM
What if we break down what's owed by coorporations amongst their employees? Like, how much does each employ of GM owe? How much does each employee of those banks owe?

Factor that in, then let me know what I owe for the interstate highway... that just got rebuilt... early and under budget...

Not exactly. The yuan will go up significantly and the Chinese will be able to buy their own crap. Notice how they started buying up American companies (what was left of them). They've also been hoarding natural resources the last decade and have double their gold supply in the last 5 years. They know what they're doing.
