If there was a beauty queen involved in the riots, Fox News would be all over it.

CNN might try to ignore this lashing, but if they do it'll only add fuel to the fire. The days of news organizations controlling the data flow are over. Not even CNN is in charge anymore.

That's what happens when you employ pretty people to read the news and fail to employ people who find the news stories and report them. The failure of CNN (and other "news" organizations) shows how worthless they have become.

mediablitz [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 04:12:27 PM
Weird. It's almost like CNN waited until it could verify reports, before going ahead. Almost like they didn't just run with a Twitter story.

The Beeb is covering it nicely though.

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 04:23:50 PM
Huffington Post is doing an exceptional job of covering it. As are Andrew Sullivan over at the Atlantic. Juan Cole,Josh Marshall and KOS are also reporting on it.

This is where the internet shines.

Holy fark, are you NOT aware what happened?!

The power, communications, internet and foreign press were shut down and sattelite dishes were getting confiscated!

The only way the news could get out was by twitter!

It's almost as if you WANT the iranian government to succeed in their media blackout!

Here's why TV news organizations play up the ET/soap opera drivel that drives us newshounds insane:

Iran in turmoil - maybe 45,000 impressions. If it is something really heavy with violence it just might top six digits.

Beauty Queen says something silly - 2 million impressions. Easily. Before dinner.

I laugh at people who laud the prime time media for its coverage choice. They're not throwing darts the wall on what to cover you know, it's all based on social science of us. That is, you and me.

I've seen the studies, people say that want news but in reality all they care about is the latest gossip. People like you, me and the rest of the commenters facepalming CNN over this are the minority.

MIguy [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 05:07:45 PM
The media might show a little more interest in the story if Obama did. I guess golf or whatever else he's doing today is more important.

The only reason Bush didn't declare martial law before the elections was because of the "massive pressure" from the Alex Jones crowd outing his nefarious plans.

If CNN is not covering a story, go to the other sites for news.

Instead of saying what's wrong with another site, post links to the Iran story yourself!

Got to be sad to be so fixated on a vice presidential candidate that you have to gratuitously insult her and her family even half a year after the elections.

They only take angles that will allow them the maximum quantity of "Twitter" references possible.

"Massive pressure" not required.
CNN admitted - after the fact - that they suppressed stories the former Iraqi gov't wouldn't have liked too. If a totalitarian gov't will bribe them by allowing them access (so they can do their "This is Brad Fabulous-looking reporting from 3rd-world-shiathole" opening/closing head shots, they'll reach around by self-censoring what they report.
The APPEARANCE of reporting gets more ratings than actual reporting - as they see it.
If Telling-Truth-To-Power gets their camera crews deported, Power gets to rest easy.

Nobody said anything about any President until you slimed your way in here, and there is a very good chance any comment about Bush would have at least been slightly funny. Your dribble about Obama was just stupid, and as always, added absolutely nothing to the discussion. You are constantly so full of fail it is spewing out of your eye sockets.

Himbot is right. The newsmedia jumps all over the President whenever he does or says anything. This pro-government bias must be put down at once!
