Better watch out for the hole-in-the-wall gang.

You got dysentery.

Great. That adds 1200 miles to my list of trails I will never, ever hike.

If it gets the support that the Appalachian Trail gets it will transform the local national parks and outdoor attractions. Pretty cool.

Excellent. When the zombie apocalypse hits, I'll have a way to get to the beach from Montana.

/zombies hate hiking

How beautiful. Is there an autobahn?

Gunderson 2009-06-14 06:03:06 PM
I'll be sure to ride my diesel-powered Hummer down it. Its got some nice cherry-bomb glass-packs on it.

That's secret code for "I'll drive it down a county maintained dirt road after a light rain."

"I anticipate that within 10 years, this will gain the same popularity as the Pacific Crest Trail," Knechtel said.

Whoa there, tiger! Let's not go overboard!

Lets create a lot of alphabet-soup named government organizations who employ the otherwise unemployed or unemployable and have them do government-financed projects!!

I'm happy to know that the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression is over, so that Obama can focus on this obviously needed project.

/all other problems solved, too.

So does Obama get teh dysentery?

Airfoilsguy [TotalFark] 2009-06-14 06:19:16 PM
Great, with everyone out of work there will be a lot of people walking. Might as well have a trail for them to walk on.

Monkeypillow 2009-06-14 06:19:36 PM
I don't get the headline. Why would this be bad for hiking enthusiasts?

Yes, I'm sure the 15 minutes Obama probably spent reading, thinking about, and signing this particular bill really has prevented him from focusing on more vital issues...

zefal 2009-06-14 06:24:31 PM
Follow the trail to see what obama crony benefits economically from this.

Trekking poles really help too. Doubly so if you invest in the anti-shock versions.

Yeah, that totally didn't work in the 30s... wait.

Most of my university was built by the WPA. The TVA brought power to millions. The CCC is responsible for some awesome forests. Total wastes of time.

superbasil 2009-06-14 06:31:39 PM
I think you Yanks dodn't know what you are missing. I have hiked the AT and done some of the PCT and loved every minugte of it (actually my body was sore for a couple years but the is beside the point). Kick work in the arse and go do something that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Will this put Brockton and North Haverbrook on the map?

Walk Across America is one of my favorite books, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Will there be a moving sidewalk and glass enclosure for those who don't like to walk or be exposed to natural light?

New Age Redneck: Rode Mount Abercrombie near Northport, WA last fall on the mountain bikes. Superb ride, good on you for building more trails absolutely nobody will ever use!!

Looks like a good place from which Stephen Katz can fling his gear.

Mexicans will cross this trail to sneak into USA

Cool as long as no private property was forcibly seized in its creation. Government already controls more land than it should.

It's amazing how you can do more than one thing at a time, when you are busy reading books your entire presidency.

/or, when you aren't a retard

Or because the armies of retards who bought into your ideology are acting as your willing servants instead of spoiled brats hampering your every move so you don't have to do anything.

Lake 2009-06-14 06:59:55 PM
@BalugaJoe uh, yeah, Mexicans. Considering it is bordering Canada (at least the states are), maybe Mexicans sneaking in via Canada? Or Canadians sneaking in? Watch out for the Mounted Police!

Yeah, 'cause the best result of the Amerindian genocide is private property!

I thought that was already there. I'm pretty sure it was, since I had looked at hiking it. And it was, you know, there.

I'm surprised Obama had time to build that whole trail, what with being president and all.
