So Biden is the fall guy for the "we were wrong" moments? He makes enough mistakes on his own. Why would you send him out to deliver the bad news?

Why not send Timmy Geithner out for the mea culpa?

Oh, I'm sure those comments won't be taken out of context by Republican. Nope, not at all.

Not everyone guessed wrong. People who said it was going to be a massive failure - they "guessed" right.

But then again, he seems to think people could only guess at the outcome. What do you expect?

How insightful...

By the way, let's make sure we blame BOTH sides of the aisle on this one.

U.S. President George W. Bush, saying "our entire economy is in danger," urged Congress to approve his administration's $700 billion bailout proposal.

Most people can be predicted to fail in degrees, but Bush failed in orders of magnitude.

Antidamascus 2009-06-14 06:05:02 PM
Didn't he just say that the stimulus was going to do more as opposed to just simply working?

That because the economy was worse off than they thought, it wasn't going to have the same impact?

But please continue the bashing, it's fun to watch.

Why are you trying to blame both sides of the aisle? There are plenty of Republicans, myself included, who never voted for Bush and who opposed the bailout outright.

Yes, because the 46 words in the article really give any context at all.

If Geithner is too important to obey federal law, then he certainly is too important to answer the cries of the people in a Democratic Republic. He was also too important to actually run for office.

More Republicans were against the bailout then in favor of. If not for the diligent work of Nancy Pelosi, it may not have passed.

Is it really creating jobs when each month there is a net decrease in jobs or put another way, higher unemployment?

That was an article?

What the hell king of "news" is that, actually?

A single sentence followed by a paragraph break, a second sentence - italicized for no reason - and a link to a "news article" that consists of nothing more than four Biden quotes sans context. Topped by two stock photos - one of the VP, and the other of money.

What sort of school teaches this exciting new form of journalism?

"Same shiat, different day"

1) When Bush first took office we were entering a recession. So Bush passed a huge stimulus package. Made up mostly of tax cuts.
2) Stimulus package is criticized as being poorly thought out and ineffective.
3) Recovery from the recession is slow and anemic.
4) Bush stimulus is defended by people saying that the economy was in worse shape than we thought and would be much worse without the stimulus.
5) Others criticize Bush claiming his tax cuts only helped the rich.

1) When Obama first took office we were entering a recession. So Obama passed a huge stimulus package. Made up mostly of spending incrases.
2) Stimulus package is criticized as being poorly thought out and ineffective.
3) Recovery from the recession is slow and anemic, so far (really too early to tell).
4) Obams stimulus is defended by Biden saying that the economy was in worse shape than we thought and would be much worse without the stimulus.
5) Others criticize Obama claiming his stimulus spending amounted to handouts for the shiftless and gifts to the Democratic base.

Current position indicated by bolded text.

Holy Fark, I just watched that interview for context, and congratulations for running in and knee-jerking all over everything, guys. It's as amusing as hell- even moreso when the lefties do it, because the Fark Independents and Republicans are just so desperate for anything that'll justify their worldview and take Obama/Democrats down a peg.

But please; carry on. I've got popcorn and beer, I'm all set.

I said it would doom the US. I was right.

Dissolution of the Union is the only answer now.

LargeCanine 2009-06-14 06:31:42 PM
We would have been better off doing nothing. No TARP, no bailouts (more than one), no 'Stimulus'. Just let failing industries fail and go into bankruptcy, the losers who made them fail in the first place are out, and new people take over the businesses. Instead we spent or are going to spend trillians to make matters worse - except for the bank accounts of insiders.

There is little evidence to show its been a massive failure either. No more people are currently out of work than would probably have been had it not been passed at all.

1) we wouldn't have spent trillians of dollars that we dont' have an put future generations in debt to the chinese and devalued our currency.
2) the industries that were failing are still failing, Its best to get it over with and let them reorganize.
3) massive fraud - which gov't officials are admitting is happening - couldn't happen.

There is nothing that gov't intervention can't make worse.

"No one realized how bad the economy was. The projections, in fact, turned out to be worse. But we took the mainstream model as to what we thought -- and everyone else thought -- the unemployment rate would be."

"Everyone guessed wrong at the time the estimate was made about what the state of the economy was at the moment this was passed."

"The bottom line is that jobs are being created that would not have been there before."

"Can I claim credit that all of that's due to the recovery package? No. But it clearly has had an impact."

My goodness! How outrageous.

Yawn.

No, both sides shouldn't be blamed. There are fiscal liberals who are to blame and fiscal conservatives who were right. Both of those groups exist across party lines but fiscal conservatives spoke up and weren't listened to so we (I include myself) get to say, "I told you so."

Also, this is why context is important, you idiots:

Headline: "Everyone guessed wrong" [on the impact of the stimulus]
What Biden actually said: "Everyone guessed wrong" [on how bad the economy really was at the time]

You see how the context of the quote COMPLETELY changes what Biden said?

A direct response to your statement is hardly a straw man argument. You claim there is nothing the government can't make worse. Yet there are many examples of things that the government has historically done better than private attempts.

How is pointing out a few of them a "straw man"?
